To face this problem, faster frequency regulation resources are required. In this context, vehicle-to-grid (V2G) is one of the concepts that is suggested for this purpose. When electric vehicles (EVs) are parked, their batteries can be used as distributed energy storage systems (EESs), injecting and absorbing power faster than conventional generation units (CGUs). The goal of this paper is to analyse the impact of fast frequency regulation of EVs in a small-scale grid, under sudden load variations. In this paper, the effect of charging strategies (CSs) is addressed, as they have a direct impact on the magnitude of the EV fleet regulation. In this way, different CSs can be used to achieve symmetrical up and down regulation, or to maximize one of them. The effect of the EV fleet dynamics in the frequency transient is also studied. The speed of response, and hence, the frequency transient, are influenced by these dynamics. The focus of the analysis will be the communication delay between the EV fleet and the central controller.","PeriodicalId":21076,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Power Quality Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"86678658","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After the introductory section which outlines generalities related to electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), the second section focuses on the dichotomy between near-field and far-field, present in two important zones where electromagnetic phenomena are totally different, which however are not well enough highlighted in the specific EMC standards. The third section is devoted to emission measurements that must be performed in different electromagnetic environments and for different types of equipment depicted in the specific standards in force. As an example, the case of electromagnetic emissions produced by a household gas thermal power unit is presented.","PeriodicalId":21076,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Power Quality Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74924964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Often, each type of disturbance, such as harmonics, is considered individually and without regard for the possible effects of other types of disturbances, such as unbalance. The interdependencies between the disturbance phenomena are often disregarded. The work reported in this paper is focused on quantifying and correlating the effect of supply system unbalance on the harmonic emissions of the most basic harmonic-producing converter, the uncontrolled six-pulse rectifier. Six-pulse rectifiers with different loading conditions are supplied by sources with varying levels of unbalance to determine the effect of the unbalance on harmonic emissions via simulation. Different unbalanced supply conditions, all within credible levels, are considered and the effects on the harmonic emissions of the six-pulse rectifier are evaluated. The results of these simulations show that as source unbalance increases, THD and triplen harmonics also increase in a nearly-linear pattern. This type of relationship may be appropriate for consideration in the ongoing efforts in standardization related to both harmonics and unbalance so that more coordinated decisions can be made.","PeriodicalId":21076,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Power Quality Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75313047","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Recently, the development of GVT is gaining a growing interest within the scientific community concerning the advantages associated with the technology in the process of electric power production. This work describes the design of an experimental facility for the characterization of a GVT in order to understand in a detailed way the effect of the variation of hydrodynamic and geometric parameters on the performance curve of the turbine. The experimental results demonstrated that a wider vortex is generated at lower channel inflow velocities. Additionally, a maximum efficiency of 0.495 at 140.25 rpm was found for the GVT tested.","PeriodicalId":21076,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Power Quality Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"74872963","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

With the increase of renewable sources, mainly with the increasing advancement in distributed generation, largely due to the increase in photovoltaic energy and also by wind power plants, both being controlled by electronic converters, the kinetic energy has decreased, thus causing instability in the system, when there is a failure of some bar, for example. For this, an overview of the literature and the Ecuadorian, American, and European regulations concerning power quality was carried out to determine the regulatory parameters and admissible limits. From the quality records, it is concluded that, in general, there are no power quality problems, except for momentary current imbalances. In one of the cases, violations of voltage parameters, voltage unbalance, current unbalance and flicker were found. The recommended parameters to be included in the Ecuadorian quality standards are individual harmonic distortion and frequency have been registered.","PeriodicalId":21076,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Power Quality Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84156638","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, the implementation of energy efficiency policies and the application of hourly differential electricity tariffs. The Open-Source Energy Modelling System (OSeMOSYS) has been adopted to visualize the effects of each of the actions in the short, medium, and long term, from 2024 till 2046. From our results, the application of hourly differentiation tariffs does not favor either the increase in the implementation of renewable sources or decarbonization processes. The implementation of energy efficiency policies (1-1.25% annual demand decrease), in the long term, allows to reach 80% of energy production from renewable sources. In all the scenarios, the energy sources with a greater level of intermittency, such as wind or solar, strongly increased their contribution in the medium-term, thereby stabilizing their long-term contribution. Finally, the implementation of photovoltaic solar energy becomes necessary only in the long-term. It seems clear that this contribution, up to 20% of the renewable, is associated with the nuclear blackout.","PeriodicalId":21076,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Power Quality Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83076863","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This municipality, which has been affected by the collapse of the coal mining industry, is at the epicentre of the reindustrialization and Just Transition (none left behind) initiatives of the Spanish government. Among the challenges to be tackled are the zone's entire decarbonization by 2030, the incorporation of circular economy initiatives, and the development of quality jobs that attract and retain new residents. To facilitate decision-making, different roadmaps have been evaluated, including the repurposing of an old coal mine galley as a reverse hydro storage system, the deployment of enterprises dedicated to the recycling of solar panels, and the incorporation of second-life batteries from electric vehicles as energy storage. Among the scenarios evaluated, the most complex turns out to be the most interesting. With an initial outlay of 190 M€, it incorporates a 210 MW photovoltaic park linked to a mixed storage system comprised of 0.25 GWh of reverse hydraulic systems and 68MWh of second life reconditioned batteries. About 850 jobs in the implementation stage and 70 more permanent in the exploitation phase are envisaged.","PeriodicalId":21076,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Power Quality Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81187399","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In addition, it aims to present the prediction of the increase in consumption over the years and correlate it with the possible increase in the harmonic distortion of stress. This analysis is essential for the studies of the connection impacts, allowing the estimation and evaluation of the energy quality through the harmonic voltage distortions over the years. The study is validated by comparing the consumption prediction curve obtained by Neural Network training with the data extracted from measurements and analysis of energy bills. The Hungarian project focuses on this topic. A geographically large market, based on imports and exports of electricity, could increase the level of competition, boost the EU’s security of electricity supply through creating alternative routes to the customers and integrate more renewables into energy markets. Electricity should, as far as possible, flow between Member States as easily as it currently flows within Member States, in order to increase sustainability potential and real competition, as well as to drive economic efficiency of the energy system. To this end, Facilitating Regional CROSS-border Electricity Transmission (FARCROSS) aims to address this challenge by connecting major stakeholders of the energy value chain and demonstrating integrated hardware and software solutions that will facilitate the “unlocking” of the resources for the cross-border electricity flows and regional cooperation. The targets of the project are to optimise the usage of the available cross-border capacity for reserve procurement while transitioning from ATC to Flow-based mechanism, to achieve simultaneous interconnector reservation for energy and balancing capacity to enable reserve market coupling and to create state-of-art technologies to materialise market coupling platforms.","PeriodicalId":21076,"journal":{"name":"Renewable Energy and Power Quality Journal","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"82428202","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
