Implementing online learning becomes inevitable due to the Government’s policyin responding to the Covid-19 pandemic. Educational institutions all over the country in primary, secondary, and tertiary levels urge teachers to teach from home. While online learning is mandatory during this pandemic, its implementation in the fields is more varied and heterogenous among practitioners. In addition to it, from the perspective of students, online learning for more than half of a semester is new and results in challenges for them. Besides, to learn grammar is still deemed difficult by most EFL learners. Not only do students have to adapt to innovative ways of learning grammar, but they are also required to learn a terrifying ordeal of taking the subject. Hence, this study is intended to examine students’ attitude towards synchronous and asynchronous learning of grammar. To collect the data of their attitude, a survey design was administered to 7 classes by adapting Tang & Chaw’s (2013) questionnaire. The results show that the students’ attitude towards asynchronous and synchronous learning can be seen from six aspects comprising learning flexibility, technology use, learning readiness, study management, online interaction, and online practices. To conclude, synchronous and asynchronous learning can be implemented with respect to students’ inclination and the nature of courses being learnt.","PeriodicalId":210498,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 9th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2020, 14-15 November 2020, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132574743","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The students were asked about the use of matecat . It has strength points; (1) providing field categories of the source text, (2) breaking down the text into parts so it is easier for translator to work with without having to copy-paste the parts, (3) recording the process of translating so the translator can leave their works anytime without losing them, (4) giving the results in form of various types of file so it is easier to edit or proofread it, (5) producing text based on the original format without changing numbering or paragraph spacing, (6) providing free-account. Its weaknesses are; (1) it works only with the internet, (2) it needs editing and proofreading processes since there are some parts from the original text that are not translated. Despite the weaknesses, matecat.com is worth to try since it offers efficiency and practicality.","PeriodicalId":210498,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 9th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2020, 14-15 November 2020, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131490620","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

News translation is questionable as part of translation by a number of translation scholars. This paper aims to give solutions to this problem. Using some leading opinions on the nature of news translation confronted with a preliminary research done by the author, this paper proposes the following solutions. Parallelism of source text with target text should be the first to be confirmed. Source text must be able to be traced and compared to as one to one translation. This means that the translated text has a function, text structure and meaning that can be compared in parallel with the source text. The next thing to be confirmed is the use of holistic approach in doing news translation research. The complexity of intra and extra-linguistic factors in news translation should be covered by using a proper combination of linguistic approach with other related non-linguistic approach .","PeriodicalId":210498,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of the 9th UNNES Virtual International Conference on English Language Teaching, Literature, and Translation, ELTLT 2020, 14-15 November 2020, Semarang, Indonesia","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114673208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
