Rotaxane, stimuli-responsive \"molecular shuttles\" are molecules where a macrocyclic \"bead\" is locked onto a linear \"thread\" by bulky \"stoppers\". Large amplitude motion of the macrocycle can be induced by external stimuli (e.g. light, electrons, heat, pH, polarity of the environment etc.). While the solution chemistry of rotaxanes has been explored extensively, the study of the surface chemistry of these species has been limited to a few examples. Here we report detailed direct information on the surface morphology and the packing of rotaxane on self-assembled monolayer on quartz and silicon oxide/Si(110) followed by the photophysical studies","PeriodicalId":208725,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123967184","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Along with the real and imaginary parts of permittivity both the real and imaginary parts of permeability are taken into account in the MSE without any approximations. Any combination of signs (positive or negative) for complex permittivity and permeability can be easily treated by the MSE. Normal incidence of plane electromagnetic wave on a layer with complex permittivity and permeability for some combination of their signs including doubly positive and doubly negative media is considered and analysed. Reflection and transmission coefficients of the layers, as well as distributions of electric and magnetic fields amplitudes and power flow density along the layers are obtained via numerical simulation by the MSE. A \"magnetic\" metallic layer and doubly lossy and \"gain-loss\" layers with simultaneously positive and negative permittivity and permeability are considered and discussed","PeriodicalId":208725,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125027363","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context the notion of Shared Risk Resource Group have been proposed, and then the colored graph model to answer these needs. In this work the basic definitions about colored graphs are reminded. Then the question of the transformation of a multilayer network into a colored graph is studied, since the way in which it is done can have a great impact on the quality of the solutions of some essential optimization problems in survivability issues, such as the shortest path problem, or the disjoint paths problem","PeriodicalId":208725,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129520252","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After optimizing the bandwidths and detuning of optical multiplexer and demultiplexer, the dispersion maps are optimized for each duty-cycle. From these, the tolerances to the in-line residual dispersion (IRD) and total residual dispersion (TRD), and the nonlinear thresholds (NLT) are assessed. It is shown that the different SSB-AMI-RZ formats have high tolerance to linear crosstalk, due to a -20 dB bandwidth much smaller than the channel spacing, and similar tolerance to IRD. Numerical results indicate that the format with duty-cycle of 15% outperform the others because of its better tolerance to TRD and higher NLT","PeriodicalId":208725,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks","volume":"37 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128801645","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The network equipment has several different types of optical amplifiers and dispersion compensation modules, providing flexibility in achieving the technical requirements. The enhancement of sensitivity was obtained by enlarging diameters of several cladding air-holes or by introducing two air channels located symmetrically in the solid part of the cladding. We used nodal based finite elements method to calculate pressure-induced deformations and stress distribution in the fiber cross-section and hybrid edge/nodal finite elements method with perfectly matched layer to calculate propagation constants of the fiber modes. We calculated the spectral dependence of the phase modal birefringence and its susceptibility to hydrostatic pressure. Such a cost depends on the personal configuration and on the one of the other users. During a series of time steps, at each of which only one user can move to a better configuration, a Nash equilibrium is eventually reached, that is a situation in which no user can select an improved solution and thus is interested in further modifications. In such a setting, the network provider must determine suitable payment functions covering the network costs that induce Nash equilibria with the best possible global performances. We first present results in the classical scenario in which we are interested in optimizing the optical spectrum, that is in minimizing the total number of used wavelengths. We then outline possible settings in which the approach can be eventually applied to minimize the cost of optical routing due to specific hardware components such as ADMs or filters, that are typical examples of expensive elements whose price can be shared among different lightpaths under specific constraints","PeriodicalId":208725,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120908172","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the key techniques is based on active or passive nonlinear Bragg gratings with and without a tapering of the bandgap. Applications envisaged are all-optical switches, limiters, and isolators. For wavelength conversion, four-wave mixing (FWM) can be used, and resonant field enhancement is exploited to improve the conversion efficiency. We investigate the isolating properties of active and passive nonlinear Bragg gratings, and we discuss FWM in passive Bragg gratings and nonlinear ring resonators. For an InP-based micro-ring resonator we report a measured record efficiency of -32.6 dB for an on-chip pump power of 13.3 dBm","PeriodicalId":208725,"journal":{"name":"2006 International Conference on Transparent Optical Networks","volume":"306 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-18","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116227289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
