As a result, each government has proposed emergency public health measures that are critical to delay the transmission and spread of the virus and mitigate its impacts. In Brazil, the outbreak triggered many cases of people infected with COVID-19. Considering there are no drugs or vaccines proven to be effective to treat the disease, analyzing the data of infection cases and their mathematical interpretation are essential for supporting and guiding governmental measures to suppress and mitigate the impact of COVID-19. This means that estimates with mathematical models to assess the development potential of sustained human-human transmission are needed. Since the disease has its own biological characteristics, the models need to be adapted to the variability of the regions characteristics and the decision-making by both the government and the population, in order to be able to deal with real situations. Thus, in the present paper, we analyzed the official data of COVID-19 in Brazil and used the Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov (JMAK) equation to predict the evolution of the disease. The model indicates that a nucleation rate is of fourth order, which indicates that Brazilians are crowding with no respect to measures of social distance and disease prevention. In our opinion, the political authorities were unable to control the spread of the disease in Brazil, given that social mobility was interrupted by the federal and state governments.","PeriodicalId":208128,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cereus","volume":"52 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-10-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133708444","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several microorganisms that pose risks to human and animal health are waterborne, such as the protozoan Cryptosporidium spp. The parasitological diagnosis of Cryptosporidium spp. in biological material and environmental samples can be accomplished through several techniques that include optical microscopy with analysis of fresh material or through the use of concentration techniques, indirect immunofluorescence and molecular biology that allows differentiation between species. Oocysts of Cryptosporidium spp. are eliminated through feces from parasitized hosts and released into drinking water reservoirs through untreated sewage. Therefore, its proper identification is necessary when causing human gastrointestinal changes. The objective of this work is to analyze the presence of oocysts of Cryptosporidium spp. in recreational areas of the Guarapiranga Resevoir located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil. Water samples were collected and concentrated between July and November and analyzed through the technique of Ziehl Neelsen. Samples showed positive results for Cryptosporidium spp. and cyanobacteria, which are commonly found in the aquatic biota. The latter can be found in large quantities in eutrophic environments due to high amount of organic matter released in water bodies. Oocysts were observed in 60% of the analyzed samples and the distribution between positive and negative samples was not dependent on the month of sampling, but showed statistically significant differences according to the sampling site.","PeriodicalId":208128,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cereus","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131354264","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A search was made for scientific articles from September to August of 2017, using the descriptors: Uncaria tomentosa , cat's claw, diuretics and anti-inflammatories, as search strategies. In vivo preclinical studies and clinical trials were included in the evaluation of the anti-inflammatory and diuretic activity of U. tomentosa . From the 165 articles found, 10 are according to the inclusion criteria, 50% (n= 05) with experimental design in the form of pre-clinical in vivo tests, clinical trials corresponded to a total of 30% (n= 03) and the sample of In vivo and in vitro preclinical trials were equivalent to a total of 20% (n= 02). The most studied properties of U. tomentosa are anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, immune-stimulatory, antiviral and antitumor. No studies evaluating the diuretic activity of U. tomentosa were found, and pre-clinical in vivo studies and clinical trials will necessary to evaluate this possible U. tomentosa potential.","PeriodicalId":208128,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cereus","volume":"123 5","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131654100","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bacterial resistance is the result of how antimicrobial agents are used to combat these organisms, therefore why showing their respective prevalence at given places as well as resistance patterns is fundamental for effective treatments. This study sought to investigate the presence of bacteria found isolated inside intensive care units of a referral hospital in the state of Paraíba, Brazil. Hence it was within this context an observational, retrospective and qualitative study through the analysis of a database conjointly provided by the hospital’s Infection and Control Prevention Unit and Medical and Statistical Archive Services. The sample was obtained through environment isolation and subsequent analyses of corresponding antibiograms were performed, during the period ranging from 2015-2018. Breastfeeding female patients were the sole group observed to have been infected by some bacterial pathogens during the study. The most prevalent types of bacteria found were Pseudomonas aeruginosa and coagulase-negative staphylococci (CNS), however, in antibiograms only the latter and Klebisiella pneumoniae carbapenemase were resistant to several antibiotics when applying disk diffusion tests. Although this first is known as an emerging pathogen, it was observed not only its high prevalence, but also its multidrug resistance profile","PeriodicalId":208128,"journal":{"name":"Revista Cereus","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123537376","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
