Spin of muon inter-acts with electro-magnetic fields through dipole moments. A precise prediction on magnetic dipole moment of muon is possible by using the standard model of particle physics. The electric dipole moment is estimated to very small under the standard model. Precision measurements of these dipole moments of muon and its comparison to theory allow us to study new physics phenomena beyond the standard model of particle physics. Kusaba","doi":"10.3769/radioisotopes.69.93","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.3769/radioisotopes.69.93","url":null,"abstract":"We conducted a 3- to 5-year study of the transfer factors (TF) of 137 Cs in Japanese chestnut, satsuma mandarin and Japanese persimmon trees planted 1 to 2 years after the Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Plant accident. The TFs of these fruit trees were on the order of 10 − 4 and 10 − 3 across the several years and showed annual variations. Comparison of the TFs between two Japanese persimmon cultivars, ʻ Hachiya ʼ and ʻ Hiratanenashi, ʼ seemed to be higher TFs values of the fruit and leaves in the former than in the latter cultivar. We further investigated the effect of topsoil management (plowing, topsoil removal, and topsoil return) on 137 Cs concentration in ʻ Hachiya ʼ fruit and the planted soil. As a result, low-dose irradiation mostly showed decrease in lipid peroxide levels, increase in superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities and heat shock protein (HSP) levels. Because approximately 70 % of the radiocaesium deposited on land was in forest areas, an analysis of the spatial distribution and transfer of radiocaesium in forested landscapes is necessary to diagnose both the environmental impacts of the accident and the environmental recovery from radioactive contamination.
