However, research suggests that performance and the underlying determinants change over time, in an individual-specific dynamic way. This chapter illustrates a method to measure, understand, and visualize the performance- and psychosocial dynamics of a talented adolescent athlete. During one season, a talented tennis player filled out an online diary questionnaire twice a week. We visualized the results using R-scripts that we made openly available. This facilitated the interpretation of the athlete’s performance- and psychosocial dynamics, which are influenced by particular events in the athlete’s life. Altogether, the current study provides insight into how the adolescent and the context interact and mutually affect each other in successive iterations.","PeriodicalId":208082,"journal":{"name":"Psychosocial Development in Adolescence","volume":"111 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-04-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116232962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As this diversity of developmental pathways indicates a need for utilizing a dynamic systems (DS) approach to model typical changes and transitions in youth’s sexual trajectories, this chapter presents an overview of how this approach is represented in the current literature. I first sketch dynamics in the approach of youth sexuality research over the past decades, after which I summarize trends in longitudinal research, focusing on a distinction between macro-, meso-, and micro-time development. After illustrating current applications of a DS approach in youth sexuality research, I discuss how the DS approach can be further incorporated in future research. In the final section, I argue how improving our understanding of youth’s sexual relationships and development through a DS approach leads to improved practical applicability for relational and sexual health promotion strategies.","PeriodicalId":208082,"journal":{"name":"Psychosocial Development in Adolescence","volume":"39 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117045915","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
