A maximum increase of 2.6dB in gain with a maximum gain of 10.4dBi was observed by increasing the number of parasitic patches but keeping their sizes fixed. Similarly by varying the size of the parasitic patches, gain increased by 5dB. Finally increasing the size of the metal reflector showed an increase of 3.5dB in gain. This parametric study provides the design guidelines for the best configuration of UWB antenna integrated with parasitic patches and metal reflectors.","PeriodicalId":206296,"journal":{"name":"2013 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121989280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An impedance modeling of the Equivalent Circuit (EC) for a unit cell of the square loop FSS structure is presented in this paper. The unit cell of the square loop FSS is designed and simulated using the CST Microwave Studio software at 2.4 GHz based on industrial, scientific and medical bands (ISM) standard. The square loop FSS is simulated without FSS, with square FSS and square FSS with slot. The investigation has been done on the length of substrate (s), width of substrate (w), length of square FSS (a), length of square FSS with slot (b) and the number of slots (n). Real (Re) and Imaginary (Im) component of EC or known as resistance and reactance has been modeled based on physical parameters of the design structure of the FSS. The resistance and reactance of the impedance are depending on the geometry of the unit cell of FSS. This impedance modelling can be used to design the advance FSS for the similar ISM band. EC gives a simple alternative method in FSS analyses which are useful for quickly predicting the performance of FSS. The 7th and 8th degree polynomial type has been used to model the component of EC.","PeriodicalId":206296,"journal":{"name":"2013 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122259512","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While known designs made with meanderlines often employ several cascaded surfaces with many interconnects; the design feature reported here is a single planar surface of very closely arrayed metallic meanderline loaded with rectangular patches. This approach permits a broadband polariser that opeates over a wide frequency range and angles of incidence. The finite element method and waveguide simulator technique are used to analyse the reflected and transmitted plane waves from these surfaces on normal and oblique incidence.","PeriodicalId":206296,"journal":{"name":"2013 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125744628","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this design, good CP radiation is achieved by loading a near semi-circular notch is into the patch. Furthermore, the L-shaped probe-feed method is used for achieving good impedance matching that results in broad impedance and CP bandwidth. The experimental results show that the 3-dB AR (axial ratio) bandwidth is approximately 3% (902-929 MHz), while the 10-dB impedance bandwidth is approximately 25.4% (854-1102 MHz).","PeriodicalId":206296,"journal":{"name":"2013 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132848629","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These studies assume that the periodicity of CSRR is perfect. However, a margin of error, related to the precision of manufacturing techniques, appears when operating these filters. In this paper, the robustness of the behavior of these filters is studied according to the degree of disturbance of the periodicity.","PeriodicalId":206296,"journal":{"name":"2013 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"140 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133281633","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, a conventional UWB antenna is modeled to provide a reference point for the modeling and then the shape is modified by a self inverted configuration to achieve higher bandwidth and size reduction. To improve the gain and efficiency, a combination of corner features and loading slots are introduced. The primary aim throughout the modeling was to achieve the minimum possible value of return loss (S11) below -10 dB over the FCC-defined UWB frequency range. The antenna was designed, simulated and modified using Agilent's Advanced Design System (ADS). It was fabricated on FR4 substrate and measured return loss results are presented.","PeriodicalId":206296,"journal":{"name":"2013 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"31 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114120501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The solution is obtained using two alternative methods: the first method is based on applying asymptotic expansions on the spheroidal eigenvectors, allowing a closed-form solution which is valid for small eccentricities of the spheroid. The second method is based on the exact solution using the separation of variables in terms of the spheroidal eigenvectors. Both prolate and oblate spheroids are considered, and both TE and TM incident plane waves are studied. Numerical results are given for various values of the parameters.","PeriodicalId":206296,"journal":{"name":"2013 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"45 1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121203966","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A NanoMech™ process enabled MEMS digital variable capacitor has been used as a capacitive load to the antenna. The antenna occupies a volume of just 1.3 cc and is targeted to be placed at the bottom corner of the device. With the help of tunability the antenna is able to cover from 704-960MHz in the low-band and 1710-2170MHz in the high-band, thus covering a wide range of frequency bands required for GSM/WCDMA/LTE systems. The MEMS device has an equivalent series inductance of less than 0.1nH hence the variation in the capacitance value with respect to frequency is less than 10%up to 5GHz. Further, the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the digital variable capacitor is <;0.4Ω across the whole frequency range of interest, hence causing very low insertion loss to the antenna. The tunable antenna is characterized by measuring it in 3D anechoic chamber. The measured total efficiency of the antenna varies from -4 to -2dB for 700MHz-960MHz and -3dB to -2dB for 1710-2170MHz.","PeriodicalId":206296,"journal":{"name":"2013 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127048031","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Field strength calculations involve reflected, diffracted, doubly-reflected and reflected-diffracted rays, as well as higher order terms, in addition to a direct field in free space, appropriately attenuated through buildings in shadowed regions. The field transfer functions obtained from field and EMF calculations can be employed to assess improvement in diversity gain and capacity improvement in systems employing MIMO spatial multiplexing, particularly in low coverage areas. The 3D propagation geometry is modelled by a triangular mesh derived from the transformation and processing of high resolution digital LIDAR data. The computations are validated with comparisons against mobile measurements at 2.4GHz along different routes within selected site topographies.","PeriodicalId":206296,"journal":{"name":"2013 Loughborough Antennas & Propagation Conference (LAPC)","volume":"225 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116386256","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
