These metastasize most often to the mandibular molar region. The commonest primary sources of metastatic tumors found in the oral and maxillofacial region are the lung, kidney and prostate gland for the males, and the breast, genital organs and kidneys for females. Uterine cervix cancer is the second most common female cancer and the third most common cause of female cancer mortality. The tumor spreads into the surrounding tissues by direct infiltration, but hematogenous dissemination is relatively unusual and the involvement of oral and maxillofacial region is extremely rare in gynecological cancer. Here a case of a 45-year-old woman is presented, who had a lesion of sunburst type appearance radiographically and poorly differentiated squamous cell carcinoma histologically involving the maxillofacial region, which metastasized from uterus cervix.","PeriodicalId":206273,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"56 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128352147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study include one hundred patients (77females and 23males) whom complain from clicking and pain at their TMJ with or without limitation of mandibular movements. The age ranged between 9-65 years old. Hyaluronic acid 2.2% were used for intra- articular injection unilaterally at the upper compartment of the most painful TMJ. Assessment of pain was done by using the visual analogue scale (0-10), the intensity of clicking was evaluated by stethoscope using basser clicking score, lateral movements were calculated by using ruler and recorded into special case sheet, and any complications that reported by the patients were recorded. These data were recorded before treatment and one, two, three weeks post injections, also one month after the last injection. SPSS (statistical package of social science) window 11.5 version was used for statistical investigation with chi square and paired T tests with P ≤ 0.001 as a significant value. The outcome of this study reveals that age cluster between (21-30) years was the most prevailing age, it signify (29%) of the entire trial, whereas the age group over 50 years was the least represented age group, it signify 7%, Female were presented in this study more often than males at a ratio of (3.3 -1). Regarding TMJ pain, there were significant differences (P≤ 0.001) before and after intra-articular drug administration. Significant differences P≤ 0.001were found in clicking scores means before and after intra-articular HA injections there were significant differences P≤ 0.001 in maximum opening capacity means before and after TMJ injections. There were significant differences in both lateral left and right movements means P ≤ 0.001 before and after TMJ injections of hyaluronic acid. This study conclude that HA 2.2% TMJ injection is an effective method in treating different TMJ diseases including temoporomandibular disorders, it reduce pain, clicking and improve mandibular motion, their effect persist even one month beyond last injection, it is effective, safe, painless, not costly, with no side effects like steroid, with no complications, usually no need to another drugs following injections like antibiotic and analgesic. We recommend that this modalities as the best treatment for TMDs. Also we conclude that females seek treatment more often than males at a ratio 3.3:1.","PeriodicalId":206273,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130346891","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It has a special mention in the field of oral surgery due to its varied presentation and high recurrence rate. There have been a few cases reported of outcomes of treatment of odontogenic keratocysts. The aim of this report was to illustrate the case of OKC in a patient and to describe the follow-up information and successful treatment of its. Methods: A 18-year-old Turkish girl was referred by her dentist to the periodontology clinic of the Faculty of Dentistry in November 2017, for the treatment of cyst in the mandibulary incisor region. The diagnosis of odontogenic keratocyst suggested clinically and radiographically was confirmed by the histopathological study. Treatment consisted of oral hygiene instruction, periodontal-endodontic treatment and resection of cyst. Results: Four weeks after surgery healing was occurred and six years later area of the lesion appeared completely normal as clinical and radiographically. There were no signs of local recurrence after a 6-year follow-up. Conclusion: The odontogenic keratocyst was treated successfully by surgical periodontal treatment.","PeriodicalId":206273,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131069787","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Materials and Methods: Sixteen patients with alveolar bone defects secondary to trauma, pathology or infection were augmented with bone marrow aspirate impregnated allogeneic bone. Bone induction was assessed by alveolar ridge height and width using cone beam CT obtained before and 4 months after treatment as compared to published controls using autogenous harvesting sites. Results: Mean increases in alveolar ridge height at 4 months after treatment were similar to established controls using traditional autogenous harvesting sites: 3.9 mm and 3.8 respectively. Mean increases in alveolar ridge width (buccal to lingual) at the crest of the ridge were similar between both autogenous, allogeneic and bone marrow aspirate groups: 4.33, 4.56 and 3.97 respectively. Seven of the 10 patients have received dental implants which have remained osseointegrated at least 1 year post-implantation. In addition, subject undergoing BMA harvest had VAS scores of one 1 week after harvest as compared to a VAS of 5.5 in published controls using traditional anterior iliac bone harvest. Also only 9% of subjects reported any pain 1 week after BMA harvest versus 15% and 70% in published controls using the proximal tibia as a harvest site. Conclusion: This study is the first pilot study using BMA impregnated allogeneic bone to augment alveolar bone defects as an adequate source of bone for functional loading of endosseous dental implants as compared to more traditional forms of grafting","PeriodicalId":206273,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130508187","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The methodology consists of a guided search in Portuguese and English from 2001 to 2020 through texts in Google Scholar, PubMed and Scielo databases. Results: The technique of osseointegrated implants within implantology has made great advances possible by favoring the restoration of dental function and aesthetics in total and partial edentulous individuals. This type of implant is successful when the phenomenon of osseointegration occurs, a complex process that depends on several local and systemic circumstances for stability and durability of the implant. In this sense, the use of photobiomodulation in Implant Dentistry can promote speed in the osseointegration process and, consequently, establish better conditions in the postoperative period. Final Considerations: Although several authors present satisfactory results in both photobiomodulation modalities, mainly acceleration of the initial phases of osseointegration, more research in this area should be carried out so that this relationship is better clarified.","PeriodicalId":206273,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133717208","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two cadaveric donors (88-years-old male and 93-years-old female) were investigated by classical dissection for gross symptoms of OA on the mandibular condyle and the mandibular fossa using a validated scale for OA disease severity. A Grade 0-4 disease severity score was awarded to the unilateral condyle and mandibular fossa for each patient. An oral exam was performed to assess restorative changes to the dentition. Both patients demonstrated Grade 4 (severe) OA on the mandibular fossa and condyle. This is a finding documented to only affect 23% (7/31) of a previous research cohort of donors; the mandibular fossa typically presents with more severe disease findings compared to the condyle. These specific donors were selected for TMJ disease assessment as a preliminary oral examination revealed substantial restorative findings. Excluding removal of the third molars, the male donor was charted to have 1 missing tooth and 11 restored teeth whereas the female donor was charted to have 17 missing teeth and 11 restored teeth. The 93-years-old female demonstrated a visibly more profound state of disease on the fossa and condyle of the TMJ compared to any other donor assessed by this protocol to date; the fossa demonstrated complete cartilage loss with a substantial concavity on the articular eminence, the condyle was flattened and the articular disc was effectively absent minus a thin fibrocartilaginous ring. It could be concluded that this substantial degree of TMJ OA disease severity, based on this specific validated scale, may relate to a high quantity of restored teeth and may manifest uniformly between the sexes.","PeriodicalId":206273,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128308735","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Its incidence is 0.1% of all odontogenic tumors. It occurs with equal frequency in the maxilla and mandible with female predominance. Two clinical variants are known: intraosseous or central and extraosseous or peripheral odontogenic fibroma. It is radiolucent and may present as a well-defined unilocular or multilocular slow-growing mass. Here we reported a case of central odontogenic fibroma in 44-year-old male in the posterior region of left mandible. We present this case because of its rarity.","PeriodicalId":206273,"journal":{"name":"Open Access Journal of Dental Sciences","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1900-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131120283","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
