These capabilities captured our interest to evaluate the encapsulation of different amount of ginseng (30 mg and 60 mg) within poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) microcapsules by a double emulsion technique. The microcapsules were characterize by using attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results suggest that all microcapsules were successfully fabricated and the ginseng was successfully encapsulated in the PLGA microcapsules when the chemical functionality of ginseng (O–H and C=C bands) was found on both PLGA microcapsules contained 30 mg and 60 mg of ginseng. The morphology of microcapsules was in a spherical shape with smooth wall surfaces. The PLGA microcapsules with 30 mg ginseng has smaller size of microcapsules compared to the PLGA alone and more homogenous than the PLGA and PLGA microcapsules with 60 mg ginseng. The PLGA microcapsules with 60 mg ginseng were also found agglomerated in some area. As a conclusion, the amount of 30 mg ginseng within the PLGA microcapsules is seen practicable for the development ginseng encapsulated microcapsules for the application of drug delivery and coating materials.Panax Ginseng has been utilized for its multiple effects such as preventing tumor, treating diabetes and cardiovascular disease and for antioxidant activities. The thin film composites (TFC) of polyamide on microporous PEI were prepared using meta-Phenylenediamine (MPD) and 1,3,5-Benzenetricarbonyl chloride (BTC). The ATR FTIR characterization showed the formation of polyamide (PA) on microporous PEI membrane, whereas scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed that a thin film of polyamide is formed on microporous PEI. The cross-sectional SEM of PEI prepared at 60 °C, showed finger like morphology and sparingly distributed balloon like morphology for PEI synthesized at 80 °C. The performance of PEI membranes and PA TFCs were ascertained by studying permeation of water and rejection of sodium chloride by reverse osmosis. The polyamide TFC with hydrophobic PEI support structures exhibited permeation of 28 to 50 lm-2h-1, with 98 – 95 % 2000 ppm NaCl rejection at 60 bar pressure.","PeriodicalId":20581,"journal":{"name":"PROCEEDINGS OF THE 2ND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BIOSCIENCES AND MEDICAL ENGINEERING (ICBME2019): Towards innovative research and cross-disciplinary collaborations","volume":"50 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"75821410","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the complex and recalcitrance structure of the biomass hinders the success story of the degradation. Lignin is the main composition that impedes the bioconversion of biomass. Hence, an optimize delignification pretreatment need to be developed to enable the biological degradation process becomes much easier and thus higher production yield can be achieved afterwards. This study focuses on the assessment of pineapple waste (PW) delignification by applying microwave radiation on two different pretreated PW to facilitate the processes. The PW was initially pretreated with distilled water (dH2O) and peracetic acid (PAA) prior to the microwave radiation. Three main parameters (pretreatment time, min; temperature, °C; and microwave radiation power, W) were studied towards the effect of PW delignification. Lignin percentage before and after the pretreatments were compared and analysed. The results obtained revealed that the microwave-assisted PAA shows the best percentage of delignification compared to the microwave-assisted dH2O pretreatment. The best delignification process obtained in this study is a key indicator for a better biomass degradation to achieve higher yield of products in the future.","PeriodicalId":20581,"journal":{"name":"PROCEEDINGS OF THE 2ND INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON BIOSCIENCES AND MEDICAL ENGINEERING (ICBME2019): Towards innovative research and cross-disciplinary collaborations","volume":"27 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-08-06","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81293121","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
