We consider the calculation of the error probability in the process of deciding on the existence of the optical infrared beam between the infrared transmitter and receiver. The error probability is calculated in the function of: (a) the ambient illumination simulated by the reflector placed a certain distance in front of the center of the touch interface; (b) window functions implemented in the algorithm for processing of the touch signal. The error probability is calculated for some classical, time-symmetrical as well as for some original, time-asymmetrical window functions.","PeriodicalId":205662,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON'2001. Our goal was to make the teaching of protocols more illustrative than it usually is when using material from textbooks or standards. We made films that show what happens when an ISDN subscriber calls another subscriber, which has two ISDN telephones. The films show the processes and signals that occur in the communication between the telephones and ISDN exchange, to which all the telephones are connected, when DSS1 (digital subscriber signalling system number 1) call control signalling is used.","PeriodicalId":205662,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON'2001. The following cases are considered for the estimation of time-delays: (1) different types of signals; (2) (non)-Gaussianity for signal and noise; and (3) (non)resolveability of the time-delays. The maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) and autocorrelation estimator (AE) are two computational tools that are used to determine the parameters of a multipath channel. MLE requires some a priori knowledge of the source signal and the channel; AE can be a blind estimator but it is more suitable for a simple propagation model (one extra path). The asymptotic expansion of the log-likelihood ratio is formed to provide a cost function to be extremized for the parameters of a multipath channel. The performance of this algorithm is examined for different signal-to-noise ratios and sample size.","PeriodicalId":205662,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON'2001. The paper describes an original method to model and solve the direct nonlinear problem of heat transfer in solids by using the cellular neural network (CNN). By modifying constitutive equations of the hear transfer which are nonlinear functions of temperature, it is possible to rearrange them to become linear functions of some new variable. Similarly, by slightly modifying an original Chua CNN we can establish direct analogy between rearranged hear transfer equations and those of the modified CNN. Consequently, different heat transfer process in solids, having an arbitrary shape, can be solved by using CNN.","PeriodicalId":205662,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON'2001. The principles of popular feedforward neural networks are used to build the model. Utilising a new artificial neural network (ANN) model some important disadvantages of both deterministic and statistical models can be overcome. In order to build the model, extensive electric field level measurements (in the 900 MHz frequency band) were carried out in the city of Belgrade, for two different test transmitter locations. The comparison between the data obtained by the proposed electric field level prediction model and the independent measurement sets have shown that the proposed model is accurate (on the order of the local mean measurement uncertainty) and reliable. At the same time, the algorithm is simple, fast and suitable for computer implementation.","PeriodicalId":205662,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON'2001. International Conference on Trends in Communications. The first problem may cause IPv6 routing not to work even on a simple network that contains only two subnets (prefixes) if the end-stations are based on minimal IPv6 requirements. Since this problem is tied to terminology found in RFC2461, it is worth considering the cause of the problem. The second problem is related to suboptimal default router selection that may cause unnecessary redirect traffic. This work also suggests some methods to solve these problems.","PeriodicalId":205662,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON'2001. International Conference on Trends in Communications. For the high frequency part of the image, which plays an important role in the visual effect, the sampling is illogical. To overcome the limitation, the wavelet transform provides a multiresolution representation of an image. Incidentally, the resolution of an image can be decreased according to the human visual system characteristic. By reversion, based on the relativity among the wavelet subbands, the details of the higher resolution image are predicted by the details of the lower resolution image. So the higher resolution image is obtained by wavelet synthesis. Experimental results show that the scheme is feasible.","PeriodicalId":205662,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON'2001. However its rise is still much restricted to scientists with high mathematical education because temporal logic formulae are difficult to understand and even more difficult to create. The contribution of this paper is in determining the bit error probability in detecting a quaternary phase-modulated signal Gray coded after transmission over the Gaussian communication channel in the presence of cochannel interference when the phase locked loop (PLL) is used for the synchronization reference signal extraction, which is imperfect. The numerical results are determined on the basis of the nonlinear PLL model. This nonlinear PLL model is much more complex to analyze than the linear one, but frequently a PLL system must operate in such conditions where the external fluctuations due to the additive noise are so intense that classical linear PLL theory neither characterises adequately the loop performance nor explains the loop behaviour. On the basis of the obtained results the influences of the signal-to-noise ratio in the channel, the signal-to-noise ratio in the loop bandwidth, the interference-to-signal ratio and the loop parameter values to the performance of the communication system are evident. From the obtained results it is possible to calculate the needed signal power, the interference-to-signal ratio and the loop parameter values in order to achieve the desired error probability. We give an exact comparison between the performance of a BPSK system in the presence of noise, imperfect carrier signal recovery and the interference determined in Draca et al. (1990), and the performance of the QPSK system in the presence of the same negative influences determined in this paper.","PeriodicalId":205662,"journal":{"name":"EUROCON'2001.
