To achieve the purpose, we firstly revisit the following stochastic stability notions for stochastic systems: uniform almost sure asymptotic stability (UASAS), exponential p-stability, and finite-time stability in probability. Combining the previous notions, we propose new asymptotic stability properties and new stochastic Lyapunov functions, p-stability with respect to (w.r.t.) EV, and quasi almost Lyapunov functions (quasi-ALFs) for nonlinear systems with stochastic disturbance terms, the values of which are nonzero at the origins. Subsequently, we propose a strategy of noisy surface control to obtain sufficient conditions so that stochastic systems almost restore their smooth trajectories of the time when they were not vibrated by additive noises. The effectiveness of the control strategy is confirmed by the consideration of disturbance attenuation problems for stochastic linear systems with linear quadratic (LQ) controls.","PeriodicalId":205599,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127998448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, the Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) model representation was adopted to approximate the nonlinear dynamic of IM subject to speed sensor faults and unknown bounded disturbance. Next based on robust H∞ fault detection observer design a Modified Field Oriented Controller (MFOC) is designed. This scheme requires the knowledge of the occurring faults which are estimated from a descriptor observer. The observer gains were determined by solving a set of Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI). Finally, simulation results are given to demonstrate the controller's effectiveness evaluated on 7.5kw Induction Motor.","PeriodicalId":205599,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA)","volume":"58 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116307086","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

These systems may operate from conventional fuel sources as well as from renewable energy sources (biomass, solar, fuel cell). Cogeneration is installed as a distributed generation and on-site generation source to profit from the produced heat. The utility can motivate factories to install such systems by permitting them to link their residual production capacity to the electrical grid. This work presents a study concerning the optimized cogeneration capacity to be installed in a factory. Genetic algorithm (GA) optimization method is then used with a sensitivity analysis to find a compromise between the economic and the environmental issues.","PeriodicalId":205599,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA)","volume":"8 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117037762","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Such models ignore nonlinear effects which typically manifest themselves for large device motion (typical in this application) and may also include other modelling errors. In this paper, we present a methodology for reducing the sensitivity to modelling errors and nonlinear effects by the use of a hierarchical robust controller, which also allows good energy maximisation to be recovered through a passivity-based control approach.","PeriodicalId":205599,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA)","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117159683","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This effect creates a potential for power generation that can be reaped by an Airborne Wind Energy system positioned at elevations exceeding the height of conventional wind turbines. A frequent design for such a system includes a flying airfoil tethered to a ground station. The station can be equipped with a power generator or for the application considered here mounted to a sea vessel. We demonstrate a data based method that can maximize the towing force of such a system by optimizing a low level tracking controller at the presence of constraints. We utilise Gaussian Processes to learn the mapping from the set points of the controller to both the objective and the constraint function. We then formulate a chance - constrained optimization problem that takes into consideration uncertainty in the learned functions. The probabilistic objective function is transformed into a deterministic acquisition function which indicates set points with high probability of improving the current optimum and the constraint function is penalized in regions of high uncertainty to ensure feasibility. Simulation studies show that we can find optimal set points for the controller without the use of significant assumptions on model dynamics while respecting the unknown constraint function.","PeriodicalId":205599,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA)","volume":"98 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117196641","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By using nonlinear stochastic optimization, the uncertainty of the irradiation forecast is considered. Real data is used to compare the performance of stochastic optimization of affine policies and of single decision trajectories as well as conventional deterministic optimization. It is shown that the stochastic optimization has the potential to better exploit the system's energy storage and thus achieves higher performance for energy time-shifting.","PeriodicalId":205599,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA)","volume":"50 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115361124","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To date, the gold standard for measuring anaerobic threshold (AT) is a structured test to exhaustion where blood lactate concentration is measured at regular intervals. However, the need for invasive testing, requiring trained personnel and specialist equipment, limits the availability of such tests. This paper proposes a non-invasive AT measurement method, which validates well against AT measured using lactate analysis. In addition, the proposed test has a relatively loose set of requirements on the exercise test protocol required and just requires a measure of exercise intensity and heart-rate. While the test is applicable to a range of sports, usage is demonstrated in this paper for a set of cyclists, using velocity as a measure of exercise intensity.","PeriodicalId":205599,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA)","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115312494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

LRS measurement includes outliers and suffers from the intermittent observation; alleviation of their effect is required in order to localize a vehicle position with high accuracy. Proposed localization method merges multi-sampling data by exploiting MHE, which greatly reduces the effect of outliers and intermittent observation on localization using the data of other sampling. We show the efficacy of proposed localization by numerical simulations and experiments.","PeriodicalId":205599,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115434117","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Especially, we are interested in linear systems whose input is subject to amplitude and rate constraints of saturation type. Furthermore, the considered systems output is also subject to an intrinsic saturation. Then, aiming to design global (and asymptotic) output tracking of compatible output-reference trajectories, we propose a suitable saturated linear controller following the direct approach (where the constraints are taken into account during the regulator design). The (non-linear) closed-loop control system is analyzed using input-output stability tools. Thus, conditions guaranteeing l2-tracking performances are formally defined. Interestingly, the proposed controller is shown to ensure perfect output-reference tracking in presence of varying with l2-vanishing rate inputs. On the other hand, in the case of arbitrary inputs, the proposed controller guarantees that the less changing the inputs are the better the output-reference tracking.","PeriodicalId":205599,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA)","volume":"28 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127454916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The upper decision level has the function of fixing the values of a certain set of parameters (reference values), to be applied at the lower decision level. On the basis of such parameters, each decision maker at the lower level solves its own optimization problem by tracking the reference values provided by the upper level. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is demonstrated through the application to a specific case study (Savona, Italy).","PeriodicalId":205599,"journal":{"name":"2014 IEEE Conference on Control Applications (CCA)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2014-12-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125770230","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
