Valente","doi":"10.1109/ISAF.2012.6297834","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/ISAF.2012.6297834","url":null,"abstract":"Particulate composites of (Na<sub>0.5</sub>Bi<sub>0.5</sub>TiO<sub>3</sub>)-BaTiO<sub>3</sub>(NBBT)+(Co<sub>0.6</sub>Zn<sub>0.4</sub>)(Fe<sub>1.7</sub>Mn<sub>0.3</sub>)O<sub>4</sub> (CZFMO) were synthesized by the conventional ceramic method to study ferroelectric, magnetic and magnetoelectric properties. Ferroelectric switching has been seen in all the ferroelectric and composite ceramics. Remanent polarization of 34 and 26μC/cm<sup>2</sup> was obtained for the pure and 85 mol% NBT-BT ceramics, while a larger leakage current was observed for the remaining composites. The magnetoelectric coefficient (α<sub>ME</sub>) of 8 mV/cm-Oe was observed in the composition with 65 mol% ferroelectric and the coupling seems to be lower for higher ferroelectric content ceramics. A change of ~10% in saturated magnetization was observed in composites of 65 mol% NBBT, which is an indication of the converse magnetoelectric effect. The crystal structure and microstructure of CBT-based ceramics were determined by the X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. It was found that the (Li, Ce) ions diffused into the A site of pseudo-perovskite structure and formed single Aurivillius type structure. The Curie-temperature (TC) of CBT ceramics decreased whereas the piezoelectric coefficient (d33) was improved with the increasing of (Li, Ce) dopants. Similar dielectric and electromechanical properties were found for both but sol-gel derived ceramics can be obtained with a lower thermal budget, which prevent losses of volatiles. Dielectric anisotropy is observed. All the features of the thermal evolution curves of ε<sup>T</sup><sub>11</sub> are observed at temperatures clearly displaced towards higher values with respect to those of the ε<sup>T</sup><sub>33</sub> curves. There is also anisotropy in the depoling process. When depoling is monitored in-situ using the shear mode of thickness poled plates, resonance is observed at T<sub>d</sub> >; 150°C. A piezoelectric ceramic with composition of 0.88Bi<sub>0.5</sub>Na<sub>0.5</sub>TiO<sub>3</sub>-0.08Bi<sub>0.5</sub>K<sub>0.5</sub>TiO<sub>3</sub>-0.04Bi<sub>0.5</sub>Li<sub>0.5</sub>TiO<sub>3</sub> was chosen as the active element of the transducer. This composition exhibited a thickness coupling coefficient (k<sub>t</sub>) of 0.45, a dielectric constant of 440 (at 1 kHz), and a longitudinal piezoelectric coefficient (d<sub>33</sub>) of 84 pC.N<sup>-1</sup>. To make the transducer, the ceramic was sandwiched between an epoxy-tungsten backing layer and a silver epoxy matching layer. An epoxy lens was also incorporated into the transducer's design to focus the ultrasound beam. The focused transducer with a center frequency of about 23 MHz demonstrated a -6 dB bandwidth of 55% and an insertion loss of -32 dB, while the -20dB pulsed length was measured to be 150 ns. A phantom made of copper wires (30 μm in diameter) was utilized to investigate the imaging capability of the transducer. The electrocaloric responses of the samples were investigated, before and after irradiation. For the virgin copolymer, the maxima isothermal entropy change (ΔS ≈ 22.5 J/kgK) and adiabatic temperature change (ΔT ≈ 6 K) of conformational origin were observed at 90 °C and above, for a 120 MV/m applied electric field. For the γ-irradiated sample, we observed the lowering of the working temperature range by circa 15 °C, but higher external electric fields of 160 MV/m were required to recover the large level of electrocaloric response in these polymeric relaxors. PVDF-BaTiO3 mixtures with different weight fractions of submicrometric BaTiO3 particles were subjected to 1 h of effective milling. By applying pressure at 200 °C the resulting powder was molded in the form of relatively thin discs. Morphological and structural characterization of the materials was done using conventional techniques (DSC, FTIR, XRD, SEM). Piezoelectric characterization of the specimens was also carried out. Macroscopic tapping was used to induce a voltage in the materials. It was found that the output voltage decreases with the amount of BaTiO3 particles. For a piezoelectric system given a high impulse with low displacement, higher power outputs were generated at lower resistive loads. Conversely, for a system with high displacement at a low impulse, power output was higher at high resistive loads. At matched impedance, the secondary shock system generated higher power output than the hitting system did at low resistive load. Optimized response of secondary shock system was obtained at a frequency of 60 Hz with a low resistive load of 1 k Ω. The generated output power was measured 124 mW, which corresponds to power density of 140 mW/cm3 for entire cantilever beam and power density of 342 mW/cm3 for only piezoelectric material volume.
