The background of global climate change processes immeasurably increases the risk of uncontrollable natural catastrophes. Among the multi-spectral geological processes in Georgia, the most impressive phenomena are landslides and debris/mudflows, washing out of marine coasts and river banks within the limits of settlements. According to special research data, the landslide, mudflow, and river bank erosion out reactivation processes are growing exponentially from year to year.","PeriodicalId":204277,"journal":{"name":"Geography and water resources","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123360613","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The importance of this problem lies in the fact that it is planned to create a National Geopark of international importance on the territory of Gobustan. Based on own field ecological, geological and geomorphological studies, fund and cartographic material, as well as using aerospace images (ASI) from 1996, 2000-2020 and scale 1:60 000, it was found that over the past 50 years, the area of Gobustan, subjected to landslide processes, has increased by 1.5-2 times. The data obtained made it possible to compile a map of zoning of the Greater Caucasus with a scale of 1:1 000 000 according to landslide hazard (in points), which objectively reflects the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of landslide processes. The research results will make it possible to use the obtained data for the development of the Program for the safe and sustainable functioning and development for the recreational and tourist development of Azerbaijan's geosystems.","PeriodicalId":204277,"journal":{"name":"Geography and water resources","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128833236","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bathymetric mapping of lakes was predominantly conducted with the use of highly-priced methods such as airborne lidars, active imaging sonars, multibeam echosounders. With the advancements in GIS and emergence of remotely sensed data new approaches for bathymetry extraction were developed. However, despite a high motivation to obtain bathymetric information for small lakes from remotely sensed data, there is a lack of reliable methods that can be implemented under various climate conditions and on a wide scale. In this paper several remote-sensing-based methods for bathymetry mapping of small lakes are discussed. The new Ice, Cloud, and land Elevation Satellite-2 (ICESat-2) data was used to extract bathymetric information on three small lakes of Kazakhstan. The assessment of ICESat-2 for lake bathymetry extraction was conducted using field measurements as the validation data.","PeriodicalId":204277,"journal":{"name":"Geography and water resources","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115298525","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To assess the long-term ice regime (dynamics of ice phenomena) and meteorological parameters, two periods were identified: before 1973 and 1974-2019 due to intense climate warming after the 1970s. A comparative analysis of the ice phenomena of the Zhaiyk river basin with meteorological indicators (air temperature) showed that the trend of precipitation tends to decrease slightly and there is a pronounced tendency to increase air temperature, in connection with this, the duration and date of the appearance of ice formations decreased for a later time. Estimates of changes in the considered characteristics of the ice regime of the Zhaiyk River basin for the period 1974-2019 are given. compared with the period of the conditionally stationary climatic situation (from the beginning of observations to 1973) using statistical methods.","PeriodicalId":204277,"journal":{"name":"Geography and water resources","volume":"2014 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128200557","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is necessary for the long-term assessment of avalanche danger and planning the work of special services. The main factors of avalanche formation are the height and strength of the snow cover, as well as the amount of precipitation. These characteristics have been observed for many years at the avalanche stations \"Shymbulak\" and \"Lake Ulken Almaty\" near the city of Almaty. The average values of meteorological elements were calculated for the period 2001-2021. The data were collected from various sources - technical reports of avalanche stations, data from meteorological stations of international exchange and the archives of the Institute of Geography. Based on the results of the work, a climatic reference book was created for the needs of workers of the avalanche service.","PeriodicalId":204277,"journal":{"name":"Geography and water resources","volume":"73 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114641814","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As well as to identify the frequency of air masses and atmospheric phenomena by seasons and years. The purpose of this study is to determine weather phenomena, which is significantly, influence the safety and the operational activity of air traffic, particularly, in the areas of the aerodrome and route. The formation of thunderstorms is a particularly important meteorological event that has major relevance to aviation safety. Despite all the safety improvements, the weather is still today a major cause of aviation accidents and incidents. According to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) statistics, 15 -20% of plane crashes are caused by severe weather conditions. Hazards associated with convective weather include thunderstorms with severe turbulence, intense up- and downdrafts, lightning, hail, heavy precipitation, icing, wind shear, microbursts and strong low-level winds. As a source of the information regular observations of Heydar Aliyev International Airport, also soundings, satellite images, surface and upper air maps were used.","PeriodicalId":204277,"journal":{"name":"Geography and water resources","volume":"151 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-03-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116090868","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
