The technology of tunnel construction includes the following underground works: tunnel excavation, substructure works (primary support) and construction of the secondary lining of the tunnel. The most important feature for the selection of construction technology is the geology of the rock mass through which the tunnel passes. The combined excavation technology was applied at the Zenica tunnel: by machine and blasting (\"drill and blast technique\") and based on NATM - New Austrian Tunnel Method. The excavation of the Zenica tunnel was performed in very complex geological and geotechnical conditions. Since these are flysch sediments, tectonics was very pronounced with constant shifts of hard and soft rocks and large amounts of groundwater. The excavation of the tunnel was performed in several phases and in full profile, depending on the quality of the rock mass, while ensuring the excavation with a primary support. Engineering geological mapping of the rock mass of the excavation face was performed daily. Geomechanical classification - RMR was applied for the classification of rock mass. Mede geological research (drilling hole, cat-soil and others) is very important to know what geological and hydrogeological condition we have on the site. This research is conditional for Project of building where should be described way of build related for geological properties, with some intervention (with aim to get better quality soil base and stability) if that necessary or object can be built without any intervention on the base if we have good geological properties. All geological research should be made like project predict and evidenced from performer and supervisor, which is guarantee how is all work made correlated with project. Build project should be absolutely respected over any segment of work and be correlated with geological properties on the field and their stability must be proved after project done. Often we have deviation from projected and made condition of object, which can impact on stability or trigger some engineering geological process, which will partially or complete damage object. Build on the soil mean have good interaction base-object, never mind is that some road, building or communal line object. The paper presents the procedures of geotechnical exploration and testing and also part of the performed analyzes for the determinaton of the causes of cracks and deformations on the foundations of pillars. All it with the aim of proposing rational remediation and stopping further deformations. Landslides represent a severe problem today, so adequate field research is of great importance to determine the cause of the landslide and the remedial solution. This paper presents 2D profile models of landslides based on geophysical and In-situ research methods. The paper describes, presents and interprets the results of field investigations of landslides at two locations, in Samarica and Petrovsko. Among the geophysical methods, geoelectrical tomography (ERT), multichannel analysis of surface waves (MASW) and seismic refraction (SRS) were performed. In-situ tests included static probing with a cone penetrometer (CPTu), flat Marchetti dilatometer (DMT) and dynamic probing with a light impact probe (DPL). The analysis showed excellent complementation and overlapping of geophysical and In-situ methods results. Exploratory drilling is a direct research method; it is costly and time-consuming, and only point data is obtained. The results of exploratory drilling in the area of the Samarica landslide showed a good correlation with the results of geophysical and in-situ tests. However, field investigations without the use of exploratory drilling in the area of the Petrovsko landslide proved to be very successful in detecting the depth of the sliding surface. Janković, Marija Bakrač","doi":"10.35123/geo-expo_2022_4","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35123/geo-expo_2022_4","url":null,"abstract":"During the execution of works on the E-75 highway, Belgrade-Niš - the border with FYR Macedonia, on section Gornje Polje - Caričina Dolina, LOT 1, on the Cut 3 from km 876+ 325 to km 876 + 825 there was a violation of the stability of a conditionally stable slope that jeopardizes the highway route. According results of extensive geotechnical investigations it is a huge landslide with a complex slip mechanism. Within the Phase II works on the stabilization of the landslide toe in the zone of the left bank of the South Morava River, in the length of 300,50 m, from km 3 + 592 to km 3 + 900.35 (along the axis of the river), or from km 876 + 739,23 to km 876 + 485 (along the axis of the highway) are foreseen. These works consist of constructing the reinforced soil embankment, up to 12.5 m height in the zone of toe of the landslide. Parameters that are determined are contained in (Bienawski) RMR classification, thus in GSI i.e. geological strength index as well. Values obtained by virtue of testing RQD on every meter of drilled core substantiated impact of fracture systems inside the rock on decline of value, i.e. it resulted in decreasing and cracking of rock on those points. Via decrease of RQD value, scoring in RMR classification is reduced too, consequently GSI likewise. As for geological properties of gabbro rock, Jablanica gabbro rock has superb features and chemical composition, and that determines high values of uniaxial compressive strength of this rock that are high and increasing along with depth. Urban rain (pluvial) floods occur mostly due to undercapacity, incompleteness or dysfunction of the stormwater drainage system, and due to climate change and urbanization. In order to create a sustainable and pleasant living environment where water is a resource and not a cause of problems (due to floods and water pollution), new approaches to stormwater management in urban areas are being introduced. The application of new approaches is not simple because it depends on a number of specific circumstances of the considered area (current state of stormwater drainage system; new changes related to (un) planned construction and land use change; climate change - heavy rainfall and different types of climate and others). Mešić","doi":"10.35123/geo-expo_2022_2","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.35123/geo-expo_2022_2","url":null,"abstract":"The construction of hydroelectric power plants typically requires the execution of deep construction pits close to or even inside of rivers. The paper describes geotechnical challenges and solutions of such projects on the basis of the expansion of the water power plant in Kirchbichl, Austria. This power plant is in operation since the late 1940s and was upgraded with an additional power house as well as a new floodwater relief channel. Therefore two approx. 100m long construction pits were built bordering the existing power plant. Differences in water levels of up to 20m in combination with high permeable soil layers required the execution of water tight and stiff retaining walls and high as well as deep seated sealing slabs. Especially the areas next to the existing structure were critical for the success, as the more than 70 years old building is very sensible to deformations. Moreover, the execution of piles and jet grouting columns had to pass through the former excavation, which was backfilled using very heterogenic material. Thus, various geotechnical products were applied, including jet grouting, bored piles, micro piles and strand anchors. The paper points out the key challenges of such projects, ranging from design stage, execution on site till quality control and documentation. Through the exploitation of buildings, we witness changes in the geomechanical characteristics of the soil as a result of secondary influences characterized by climate change, the presence of sanitary and storm water, vibrations in urban areas and earthquakes. All the mentioned occurrences result in the settlement of bearing parts, and thus endanger the structural parts of buildings.
