The symptoms of standing waves are less direct when they occur out-of-band, but the negative impact they have on system performance is no less real or important. Problems that arise from stop-band mismatches are in some ways even more troublesome than those in-band because they are too often not fully appreciated until after the first prototype is built, by which time some critical design and packaging decisions have already been made. Reflectionless filters provide a safeguard against these concerns. This chapter looks at reflectionless network topology, scaled prototype parameter tables, planar lumped-element implementations, delta-wye transformation for reduced impedance, non-canonical filter responses, transmission-line reflectionless filters, Chebyshev and Zolotarev type I filters.","PeriodicalId":202875,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Planar Filters Design","volume":"59 2","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"120990145","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Firstly a series of novel and compact dual-mode or quadruple-mode resonators are presented for constituting the loworder dual-band filters with the electrically small size and ultra-low insertion loss. Then, a novel dual-mode HRR is demonstrated and developed to an eighth-order HTS dual-band filter with sharp passband slope and deep out of band attenuation. In light of the development of more flexible resonant structures and efficient design theory, more compact and high-performance HTS dual-band, even the triple-band or quad-band filter can be designed in the future so as to meet the requirement for the high-quality service of various multi-functional wireless system.","PeriodicalId":202875,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Planar Filters Design","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128673013","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Overall, it covers the design of bandpass, bandstop, and multifunction filters. This chapter first deals with a frequencytunable bandpass filter design. The basic concepts for a conventional frequency-tunable SIW resonator are briefly reviewed, and a SIW resonator structure suited for the design of filters operating at high frequency bands such as K-band is introduced. A K-band frequency-tunable filter design is also included. Section 9.3 then describes bandstop filter designs using the frequency-tunable SIW resonators. Bandstop filter topologies with and without interresonator couplings are discussed. The bandstop filter topologies containing the interresonator couplings are useful for the design of multifunction filter capable of producing both bandstop and bandpass responses. Section 9.4 introduces the concepts and theories for the design of multifunction filters based on using the bandstop filter topologies containing the interresonator couplings.","PeriodicalId":202875,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Planar Filters Design","volume":"81 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130052890","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Analytical design equations are established to allow the direct synthesis of ABSFs according to the desired specifications. Good stopband rejection, low input reflection coefficient, and high level of input power dissipation within the stopband are achieved as demonstrated by the design examples. In addition, wide passband with low passband insertion loss and good impedance matching is also obtained. Both the narrowband and wideband ABSFs can be easily extended to higher-order ones for better selectivity. They can be used in applications where the absorption of unwanted signal/interference is required.","PeriodicalId":202875,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Planar Filters Design","volume":"251 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122103454","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Then, a class of planar-type balun bandpass filters with single-/dual-band and wideband responses is introduced based on this balun topology. This method to design balun filters is simple and effective with widely used multi-mode resonators. To further extend the application of the design approach, a balun diplexer is briefly introduced by using stub-loaded dual-mode resonators. What is more, some other planar balun bandpass filters based on different transition structures are also discussed in the end. All these designed circuits are verified by both simulation and experiment, and measured results indicate that the balun filters exhibit not only good balance performance, but also show high frequency selectivity. In a nutshell, the design method in this chapter provides us some new concepts for the implementation of balun bandpass filters.","PeriodicalId":202875,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Planar Filters Design","volume":"12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132492259","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The latter has been demonstrated where the in-depth analysis of the coaxial SIW performance helped to understand the resonant nature of the structure, resulting in a conclusive equivalent circuit composed by a substrate-integrated coaxial line loaded by a capacitor. The proposed topology showed a wide variety of configurations, which were represented by the variations of the resonator slope parameter, enabling designers to adapt easily the resonator properties for satisfying different requirements.","PeriodicalId":202875,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Planar Filters Design","volume":"541 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131706827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A method of designing SIW components entirely in DWG and then translating a final optimised design to SIW is presented. Due to the equivalence between SIW and DWG, the translated SIW components do not require a further optimisation which is a significant advantage as it speeds up the design process. This method was demonstrated by showing simulated results of a Ka-band bandpass filter, highpass filter and hybrid coupler where good agreement is observed between the original DWG response and the translated SIW response. Using these components, the design of a Ka-band SIW diplexer based on the topology proposed in [5,6] and subsequently [7] is presented. To gain an understanding of how fabrication errors will affect the diplexer's frequency response, a tolerance analysis where errors in the via x and y position, dielectric constant, and via diameter were studied in detail. These observations suggest that the highpass filter in the diplexer is less sensitive to fabrication errors than the bandpass filter and its use in the diplexer helps to improve the tolerance handling ability of the circuit. To validate the simulations, a Ka-band diplexer was fabricated using RT 5880 in addition to an aluminium alloy waveguide-to-SIW transition where good agreement is observed between the measured and simulated frequency responses in both cases. However, the results suggest that further work is required in relaxing the fabrication tolerance of SIW bandpass filters if SIW diplexers are to be used for commercial millimetre wave applications, such as backhaul.","PeriodicalId":202875,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Planar Filters Design","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127304303","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In particular, we focused on a new RF design approach that uses as a basis CM-based synthesis. The extraction of CM-based models for singleand multimode AW resonators as well as their equivalents when used in series or parallel configurations have been discussed in detail. Using as a basis these CM AWLR-based models, the synthesis and RF circuit/EM design of high-order BPFs has been presented. In particular, we demonstrated quasi-elliptic transfer functions with maximally flat-, equiripple-, and Gaussian-type in-band response. Furthermore, we additionally addressed the realization of multiband bandpass-type transfer functions with symmetric or asymmetric-passbands. RF tuning methods using variable reactive elements have also been discussed and demonstrated the potential for multiple levels of transfer-function tunability including passband bandwidth, out-of-band isolation, and selectivity. Lastly, this chapter presented practical integration schemes using commercially available SAW resonators and LEs.","PeriodicalId":202875,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Planar Filters Design","volume":"86 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126856240","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This type of filter can have both of high selectivity and flat passband. The high selectivity is contributed by using extracted-pole technique and the flat passband is achieved by introducing RCCs in the inline network. The independently controllable extracted-pole transmission zeros result in an inline asymmetrical filter topology with asynchronously tuned resonators. The direct circuit synthesis of this type of filter has been described with numerous examples providing a more direct insight into the theory. The proposed equivalent circuit and tabulated elements are ready to hand with most commercially available circuit modelling tools. Two six-pole microstrip filters of this type have been designed and demonstrated experimentally showing promising filtering characteristics. The improvement of passband flatness is more significant and obvious in the narrowband than that of the wideband.","PeriodicalId":202875,"journal":{"name":"Advances in Planar Filters Design","volume":"661 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122965993","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
