In this work, by synergistically integrating the advantages of dynamic elastomer‐filler interfacial interactions and non‐migratory antioxidants, natural polyphenol resveratrol (Res) was covalently grafted onto nano‐silica (SiO 2 ) surfaces, yielding Res‐functionalized SiO 2 (SiO 2 ‐Res), which was subsequently incorporated into styrene‐butadiene rubber (SBR) as a functional filler to fabricate SBR composite. The grafted Res formed dynamic π‐π stacking interactions with SBR chains, which significantly suppressed the Payne effect of SiO 2 ‐Res and improved its dispersion in SBR. Consequently, SiO 2 ‐Res showed superior reinforcing efficiency for SBR compared to unmodified SiO 2 and silane modified SiO 2 . For instance, at the filler loading of 30 phr, the SBR/SiO 2 ‐Res composite exhibited a remarkable 87% improvement in tensile strength over SBR/SiO 2 while concurrently improving the elasticity. In addition, SiO 2 ‐Res significantly improved the thermo‐oxidative stability of SBR composites. This improvement is attributed to the efficient free radical scavenging by phenolic hydroxyl groups in the grafted Res with good migration resistance and thermal stability during thermal‐oxidative aging. This strategy may introduce a promising approach for the fabrication of elastomers with dual‐enhanced aging stability and mechanoelasticity.","PeriodicalId":20281,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Engineering and Science","volume":"66 2","pages":"1065-1075"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-11-17","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147915027","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite these exciting achievements, the performance of most previous SMPCs remains suboptimal for realizing their full potential in stimuli‐responsive actuators due to their limited single‐stimulus responsiveness and restricted controlling capability. Herein, we report novel dual‐stimuli responsive SMPCs fabricated by embedding PDA@HNTs into a thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and poly (ε‐caprolactone) (PCL) blend. The incorporation of PDA@HNTs can not only endow TPU/PCL blends with photo‐thermal conversion capability, but also enhance thermally induced shape memory performance of SMPCs. Specifically, TPU50/PCL50‐PDA@HNTs‐2.0 blend exhibits superior dual shape memory property as manifested by shape fixing ratio of 99.3% and shape recovery ratio of 96.8% in water bath at 65°C, which takes only 10s for recovering permanent shape. Besides, under 808 nm NIR irradiation, the shape fixity ratio and shape recovery ratio of TPU50/PCL50‐PDA@HNTs‐2.0 blend can even reach 99.3% and 99.7%, respectively. More interestingly, we design a laminated‐structure composite to achieve tunable shape recovery time, which allows SMPCs to be customizable in different situations. This work may offer insights into the development of multiresponsive SMPCs, which expands the potential application of shape memory polymers.","PeriodicalId":20281,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Engineering and Science","volume":"66 2","pages":"813-825"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147331697","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The present work employs unidirectional freeze‐drying combined with molecular bonding engineering strategies to enhance the anisotropic structure of the polyimide (PI). By innovatively introducing a trace amount (only 1 wt%) of aminated glass fibers (GF) to construct multiple robust structural anchors, the network structure is significantly reinforced, yielding a high‐performance PI/GF aerogel composite to address this challenge. The PI/GF aerogel composite exhibits an ultra‐low density of 0.01 g/cm 3 and a drying shrinkage of only 1.75%. The axial compressive strength of the PI/GF aerogel composite materials reaches up to102.1 KPa. Finally, the PI/GF aerogel composites demonstrate significantly lower thermal diffusivity perpendicular to the freezing direction (radial direction, 0.601–3.680 mm 2 /s) than that observed parallel to the freezing direction (axial direction, 2.074–13.182 mm 2 /s) owing to pronounced morphological anisotropy, where a lamellar porous structure in the radial direction contributes to its superior thermal insulation performance. These results demonstrate that the proposed composites represent advanced thermal protection materials appropriate for hypersonic aircraft.","PeriodicalId":20281,"journal":{"name":"Polymer Engineering and Science","volume":"66 2","pages":"826-838"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2025-11-14","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"147890246","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":4,"RegionCategory":"工程技术","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the high solubility and electronegativity limit its application in cellulose paper. In this study, APP was microencapsulated with melamine formaldehyde resin (MFR) with varying core‐shell ratios (MFAPP) and incorporated into the pulp to fabricate fire‐resistant cellulosic paper. It was found that APP exhibited a rectangular morphology with a smooth surface. The surface roughness of MFAPP increased gradually as the MFR core‐shell ratio rose, and the electronegativity reduced significantly. When the core‐shell ratio increased from 0 to 10:1, its water contact angle (WCA) increased from 29.28° to 103.88°, and the solubility declined from 1.76 to 0.43 g/100 mL. For paper containing 25% MFAPP10:1 and 0.2% alkylketene dimer, the WCA increased from 108.49° to 115.41°, and the limiting oxygen index (LOI) enhanced from 31.2% to 36.5%. A dual modification strategy of “resin matrix functionalization + filler interface engineering” is proposed. By synthesizing fluorinated acrylic resin and blending it with epoxy resin, the matrix is endowed with intrinsic hydrophobicity. Simultaneously, the surface of basalt flakes is graft‐modified using KH550 silane coupling agent and stearoyl chloride to construct a stable superhydrophobic interface. This synergistic system combines the physical shielding effect of basalt flakes with the low surface energy characteristics of fluorocarbon chains, forming a multi‐scale barrier structure. The change in microstructure and mesostructure was researched during accelerated storage. The results indicate that adding antioxidants does not affect the non‐rubber components or macroscopic structure of CV‐NR. D‐isoascorbic acid exhibits the strongest antioxidant performance in the DPPH radical scavenging rate experiment. In this work, a novel multifunctional composite membrane was developed by co‐embedding carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and ZIF‐L‐derived carbon‐doped ZnO (C‐ZnO) nanoparticles into a PES matrix via the reverse thermally induced phase separation (RTIPS) method. The optimized membrane M3 contains 0.05 wt% CQDs and 0.02 wt% C‐ZnO. It exhibited a remarkably hydrophilic surface with a water contact angle of 51.8°. Compared to membranes fabricated by conventional non‐solvent induced phase separation (NIPS), the RTIPS method produced a structure with a highly porous surface and an interconnected sponge‐like support, effectively breaking the permeability‐selectivity trade‐off. The optimized composite membrane exhibited a superior pure water permeability of 1555 L m −2 h −1 while maintaining a high humic acid rejection of 91.9%. This membrane also demonstrated robust long‐term antifouling stability and a photocatalytic flux recovery rate of 65.8% under visible light. Dynamic light scattering (DLS) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed particle sizes of 395–471 nm, uniform dispersion, and stable morphology. Samples with a moderate grafting ratio (11.5%) exhibited the best property balance, with 11.5 kJ/m 2 impact strength, 15% elongation at break, and a Vicat softening point of 101.2°C. At 0.15% t‐dodecyl mercaptan (TDDM) loading, rubber cores achieved optimal flexibility and stability, yielding the highest toughness. Incorporating 10% methyl methacrylate (MMA) increased the grafting ratio to 15.2%, improving whiteness (66%), brightness (91.3%), gloss (83.6%), and tensile strength (54 MPa); the toughening ability of ASA particles was limited when the grafting ratio reached certain levels. However, most existing granular hydrogels lack a combination of key functionalities—namely, re‐crosslinkability, mechanical robustness, and controlled dissolution—needed for subsurface energy engineering. Herein, we report the development of ionically regenerative granular hydrogels that can reassemble into strong bulk hydrogels, exhibit self‐growth upon the addition of new granules, and undergo on‐demand hydrolysis into water‐like fluids. The reconstructed bulk hydrogels demonstrate mechanical robustness comparable to their pristine counterparts. The re‐crosslinking process is synergistically regulated by salinity and temperature, enabling targeted fracture sealing. Introducing environmentally benign breakers, such as carbonate salts, to the reformed hydrogels yields low‐viscosity solutions similar to water. Furthermore, the choice of breaker dictates the hydrolysis kinetics, allowing for complete dissolution within tens of minutes. Petrophysical evaluations confirm the hydrogels' ability to reform, resist mechanical degradation under differential pressure, and fully dissolve when triggered.
