Based on simple random sampling, two evaluation models were proposed to investigate the effect of sample imbalance on gene selection. Under the proposed evaluation models, the performances of five famous gene selection methods on the unbalanced data were compared. The experimental results indicated that the proposed evaluation models are effective and the sample imbalance has a great influence on gene selection. Our findings provide some guidelines in the design of microarray experiments and the following data analysis, and two evaluation models are suitable for selecting feasible gene selection method to identify differential expression genes","PeriodicalId":202629,"journal":{"name":"First International Multi-Symposiums on Computer and Computational Sciences (IMSCCS'06)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129161269","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) is efficient for describing the local features of dynamic signals and is a new and powerful theory for the time-frequency analysis. According to the theory of HHT, this text introduced a new method of speech enhancement to improve the speech quantity and the signal noise ratio (SNR) of processed data. By the method of empirical mode composition (EMD), the speech signal is decomposed into several IMFs. Then remove the background noise from each IMF according to its own characters and rebuild the signal. While the SNR of the speech is low, the experiment results show that this algorithm is valid on tested noise conditions for most of speech signals and is capable to improve the SNR of the speech. Comparing with some other methods for speech enhancement such as methods based on spectrum subtraction as well as the wavelet transform, we can find that the HHT-based method is better to a certain extent","PeriodicalId":202629,"journal":{"name":"First International Multi-Symposiums on Computer and Computational Sciences (IMSCCS'06)","volume":"76 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2006-06-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129342711","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

By taking continuity rule of samples of a same class as the starting point, face pattern recognition is considered as face pattern cognition instead of its classification. Compared with traditional best classification goaled statistic pattern recognition, it's more similar to the character of human cognition. A person's face distribution in low dimension space has a certain kind of cohesion, while face coverage of different people overlap. By the increase of space dimension, the cohesion of samples of a same class decrease, while the repel of samples of different classes increases. But as the increase of space dimension continue, both the cohesion of samples of a same class and the repel of samples of different classes decreases. Coverage of candidate faces recognition is processed in a certain space. If it belongs to several candidate face coverage, Fisher method can be applied to get the final result. This paper addresses the problem of recovering the 3D shape of revolution by symmetry property of revolution. A specially-designed rotary platform is used to obtain images of revolution and calculate image parameters at first, and then the topmost circle of the revolution is accurately reconstructed with a object-space reconstruction method. The rotation axis of revolution is calculated from the topmost circle of the revolution. The algorithm makes use of symmetry properties of surfaces of revolutions and their silhouette to rectify images so that the resulting silhouettes exhibits bilateral symmetry. In recent years, researchers have identified many genes that play important roles in the onset, development and progression of diabetes. Identification of these diabetes genes offers better understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying pathogenesis, which is essential for developing preventative and therapeutic methods. In this paper, we propose an innovative approach, fuzzy membership test (FM-test), based on fuzzy set theory to identify diabetes associated genes from micro array gene expression profiles. A new concept of FM d-value is defined to quantify the divergence of two sets of values. Experiments were conducted to study the distribution of d-values and the relationship between the d-value and the significance level of p-value. We applied FM-test to a gene expression dataset obtained from insulin-sensitive and insulin-resistant people and identified ten significant genes. Six of the ten have been confirmed to be associated with diabetes in the literature and one has been suggested by other researchers.
