Performance evaluation of the reserve channels CAC strategy with dynamic partitioning for a wireless cell serving three customer classes is carried out. Each customer class has different bandwidth and channel holding time requirements which correspond to voice, data and video respectively. The wireless cell serves newly arriving as well as customers handed over from nearby cells. A number of channels are dynamically reserved for the sole use of handoff customers to reduce the probability of handoff call dropping. A solution technique is developed and the performance of the system is obtained. It is found that new and handoff customers which require more channels for their service are blocked more. Also, server utilization is much improved when the arrival rate of higher bandwidth requiring customers is high.","PeriodicalId":201962,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE Cat. This scheme, which is referred to as iterative trellis search detection, is based in part on a reduced-complexity variant of the BCJR algorithm. It also uses signal sets with block partitioning labeling, called multilevel mapping constellations, in order to achieve further complexity reduction for higher-order QAM modulation formats. Results from computer simulations of an iterative (\"turbo\") MlMO receiver employing the new scheme have shown that it successfully eliminates the error floor that occurs if inter-symbol interference is not mitigated. It is also shown that the optimum choice of the number of fingers employed by the detector is not only dependent on the channel characteristics, but also by the fraction of states considered in the trellis search.","PeriodicalId":201962,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE Cat. Most of the PAR reduction techniques are based on changing the signal constellation symbols in a frame before evaluating the inverse discrete Fourier transformation (IDFT). A simple way to achieve this change is to use a linear transformation in the form of orthogonal matrix. Hadamard transform of data symbols has recently been proposed to reduced PAR. Motivated by this approach, we investigate the use of Fourier and cosine transforms to reduce the PAR. We also propose an adaptive transform scheme to further reduce the PAR with minimized complexity. This approach reduces the PAR by 4 dB for an OFDM signal with 128 subcarriers. We also compare the performance and the complexity of the proposed scheme with the selected mapping (SLM) technique.","PeriodicalId":201962,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE Cat. They were shown to yield significant capacity gains over direct communication or non-distributed single-input-single-output (SlSO) relaying networks. The contribution of This work is the derivation of throughput-maximising resource allocation strategies in terms of fractional frame duration and transmission power. It is assumed that distributed terminals cooperate at each relaying stage and that the detection of packets is performed at each relaying stage.","PeriodicalId":201962,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE Cat. An adaptive algorithm is introduced to maximize the total data rate in a frequency selective channel, while satisfying the requirements on total transmit power, minimum data rate of each user, and desired BER that offer various quality of service (QoS) levels for different users. The performance and complexity of the proposed scheme is also compared with similar methods and other OFDM-based multiple access methods. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm leads to higher performance in comparison with earlier sub-optimum methods, and yet requiring an acceptable computational complexity level.","PeriodicalId":201962,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE Cat. Most of these adaptive schemes do not consider the user's perception of quality when making adaptations. We describe a perceptual quality adaptation algorithm (PQA) and prototype system architecture that uses knowledge of user perceived quality to make adaptation decisions using an optimum adaptation trajectory. This optimum adaptation trajectory indicates how encoding quality should be adapted (upgraded/downgraded) with respect to user perceived quality in response to rapidly fluctuating network conditions.
