Bluetooth and IEEE 802.11b standards are the most commonly deployed technologies for WPAN and WLAN. However, because both standards share the same unlicensed ISM (Industrial, Scientific, Medical) radio spectrum, severe interference is inevitable and performance can be impaired significantly when heterogeneous devices using the two technologies come into close proximity. The most notable solution to this problem is a frequency domain noncollaborative coexistence mechanism called adaptive frequency hopping (AFH). However, we find that the efficiency of the \"channel classification\" sub-process in noncollaborative mechanisms is by and large ignored in the literature. Moreover, we also find that there is no system resources awareness and no interference source genre concerns in IEEE 802.15 Task Group 2 AFH (TG2 AFH) design. Thus, we suggest a new approach called ISOAFH (Interference Source Oriented AFH). With the above considerations, we propose a customized channel classification process, thereby simplifying the time and space complexity of the mechanism. Through our detailed implementation of various coexistence mechanisms in MATLAB Simulink, it is observed that TG2 AFH performance is sensitive to memory and power limitations, while ISOAFH is much less sensitive to these constraints and can keep a much lower channel collision rate. On the other hand, We also study some open issues of a time domain mechanism called MDMS (Master Delay MAC Scheduling). We compare different coexistence mechanisms and find that the performance of each approach very much depends on the efficiency of its sub-processes.","PeriodicalId":201962,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE Cat. The wide variety of radio interfaces makes such investigations hard to perform. We present a general framework for the analysis of heterogeneous interfering radio networks, where the networks are modeled with individual properties for the packet types used, transmitted power distributions in time and frequency from the packet transmissions, and with path loss between network nodes. By using closed form expressions for the throughput of the networks, important mechanisms limiting their performance can be investigated. The closed form expressions enable fast and flexible analysis to be performed without extensive computer simulations. To illustrate the use of the framework we analyze an example system of interfering IEEE 802.11b and Bluetooth networks.","PeriodicalId":201962,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE Cat. Interesting can be evaluated the QoS architecture and in particular integrated services inside the satellite platform. A multimedia satellite platform called EuroSkyWay has been considered and the IntServ controlled load services (CLS) and the behaviour of the system loaded with controlled load traffic and guaranteed (GS) traffic have been analyzed. The management of CLS is important in order to manage the category the traffic called \"better than best-effort\" and to guarantee a full interoperation with the terrestrial network. In particular, we have proposed a new way to manage the CLS on satellite systems. The approach is based on reduction of peak bandwidth values of CLS and the increasing of GS request delay tolerance. Different simulations have been outlined and the conformance to QoS parameters for the proposed approach has been verified. Furthermore, the admission control for different values of bandwidth levels declared in satellite admission phase and GS requests timeout have been examined.","PeriodicalId":201962,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE Cat. First, a low complexity MMSE equalizer is derived for decoding of STTrC-coded signals in frequency selective channels. The receiver is further modified so that only the significant portion of the channel impulse response is taken into consideration. The remaining (nonsignificant) portion of the channel impulse response is regarded as unknown co-channel interference (UCCI) and suppressed using the covariance estimation technique. Its performance is evaluated using measurement data obtained by the multidimensional channel sounder. The receiver performance is shown to be within 2 dB from the maximum-likelihood lower bound, which takes into account all multipath components.","PeriodicalId":201962,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE Cat. The proposed performance factors are simpler than the conventional ones and good for the various situations: a short fading block length for a high signal-to-noise noise ratio (SNR) and a low SNR. They are inverse proportion to the coding gain. Moreover, based on the proposed performance factor, we propose a new STTC that outperforms the conventional STTC when the required SNR is low. For some STTC and the proposed STTC, we compute the values of the performance factors. From the computer simulation, we show the effectiveness of the proposed performance factors and the proposed STTC.","PeriodicalId":201962,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE Cat. To realize the potential performances of OFDM technique, it is essential to realize the higher accurate channel estimator. This paper first presents the problems of conventional channel estimator based on discrete fourier transform (DFT) method and then proposes a novel channel estimator on the basis of discrete cosine transform (DCT) method to overcome the problems of DFT method. The frequency interpolation method based on the DCT method is also proposed to provide the accurate and efficient channel estimator, which can be used in the OFDMA and MIMO systems of using the scattered pilot symbols. This work presents the theoretical and computer simulation results to demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed DCT method as comparing with those for the conventional DFT method.","PeriodicalId":201962,"journal":{"name":"2004 IEEE 15th International Symposium on Personal, Indoor and Mobile Radio Communications (IEEE Cat.
