It articulates that the ability to follow public health advice is privileged and that this advice requires local contextualization, particularly in the Global South. It also covers two core arguments: first, that human capacity to adhere to public health advice is privileged; and second, that global public health advice requires local contextualization. The chapter identifies inequalities in the capacity of South Africa's population to comply with lockdowns and social distancing requirements. It focuses on the overcrowded conditions that migrants have to endure, especially if they reside in city centers close to jobs. It also equates contemporary responses to the COVID-19 pandemic among middle-class Malaysians to colonial European attitudes towards indigenous subjects. The chapter talks about the ten-kilometer radius that limited people's movements, which demonstrated the uneven distribution of resources and services. It draws on the concept of social infrastructure to outline the ways in which the urban inequities of transgender and gender non-conforming people have changed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also situates trans* people's urban inequities against the backdrop of UK austerity cuts that have undermined social infrastructures vital to LGBTQ communities. The chapter argues that pre-existing conditions caused trans* people to become disproportionately affected by the pandemic in terms of social infrastructures of health, community, and housing. It provides a detailed overview of the demographics, wages, benefits, and poverty living conditions of domestic workers, of whom 91.5 percent are women. It also reveals the disproportionate amount of care work that is carried out by ethnic minorities, immigrants, and women. The chapter highlights the complex relationship between employer–employee.
