In this context, main aim is help people with severe disabilities restore the movement ability, or replace lost motor function controlling external devices, or communicate with other people leading them to become more self-sufficient. The connection between BCI and wireless communication standards brings BCI into the Internet of Things (IoT), giving the opportunity to better interconnect the brain of both able and disable people with the surrounding physical and cyber worlds: it is called the human in the loop paradigm. The combination of BCI and IoT falls within the wider topic of Cognitive IoT technology, an enriched solution for Industry 4.0 and IoT in industry. The integration of the human role in the IoT can lead to several advantages both in human life and in technological progress. As a novel measurement device, BCI has to be widely characterized in order to improve the reliability of the obtained result. In this work, the authors review the scientific challenges of electroencephalography data acquisition for BCI, the parameters influencing its variability, and the processing techniques for a correct feature extraction and data classification. In particular, first the influence factors and the issues of EEG acquisition are reviewed. Then, the most popular devices used for BCI sensing unit are described. Finally, the authors describe the post processing techniques, the feature extraction algorithms, and the the classifier to properly choose the right signal feature.","PeriodicalId":201479,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Workshop on Measurement and Networking (M&N)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123917342","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

An approach based on the Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) for Detection, Isolation and Reconfiguration is investigated in the presence of a Hardware Duplex IMU mounted on board for flight control purposes. A state automaton, with comparative logics, detects if anomalies occurr on one of the two IMUs; then based on a comparison between the measured variables and their UKF estimations, the fault is isolated and identified. The proposed approach is an alternative to standard Hardware Triplex IMU architectures based on triple physical redundancy. At the expense of a higher computational cost and a small delay in isolating faults, the UKF based approach allows to limit the number of IMUs to two, or to guarantee a fail safe behavior in the presence of a double fault, even if contemporary, with Triplex IMUs. Experimental results on the implementation of a multiple IMU platform on a quadrotor flight control board are finally presented.","PeriodicalId":201479,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Workshop on Measurement and Networking (M&N)","volume":"126 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121032091","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technique is based on a standardized data structure (in the following named MCT), that is a new way to represent sampled signals within transducer interface modules, as defined in the standard IEEE 21451-001-2017. At first, the MCT data structure is briefly presented. Then the impedance measurement algorithm is described. Finally, the results of some simulation tests are reported and discussed.","PeriodicalId":201479,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Workshop on Measurement and Networking (M&N)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116353300","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this regard, a possible strategy is to make sure that the components (i.e. sensor and antenna) necessary to carry out such monitoring are seamlessly integrated within the elderly's daily routine. Starting from these considerations, the present paper addresses the fabrication of wearable antennas that can be fully integrated with clothes and that can be used for remotely transmitting/receiving the sensor data. In particular, in this work, two different wearable antenna fabrication techniques (namely the use of non-woven conductive fabrics in combination with a cutting plotter and the embroidery of conductive threads) are investigated. The obtained numerical and experimental results demonstrate that the proposed fabrication techniques and strategies are very flexible, and can allow obtaining low-cost wearable antenna with tailored performance according to the specific application requirements.","PeriodicalId":201479,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Workshop on Measurement and Networking (M&N)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124762272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Being able to detect anomalies is critical for both network operators and end users. However, the accurate detection without raising false alarms can become a challenging task when there is high variance in the traffic. To address this problem, we present in this paper a novel methodology for detecting performance anomalies based on contextual information. The proposed method is compared with the state of the art and is evaluated with high accuracy on both synthetic and real network traffic.","PeriodicalId":201479,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Workshop on Measurement and Networking (M&N)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129095387","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In general, the selection diversity combining scheme requires period to choose an optimal element, and spectrum sensing also requires period to detect a target signal. Because spending a long time for the selection and sensing increases the accuracy of the selection and signal detection, respectively, these periods must be considered when developing selection diversity combining based spectrum sensing. Therefore, the required period for spectrum sensing based on selection diversity combining is the summation of the selection and sensing periods, and the selection diversity combining based sensing must consider the period. We have presented the selection diversity combining based spectrum sensing considering on these period, and however, the effect of the length of these periods on the sensing performance has never discussed. In this paper, we discuss the design technique of these period for the improvement of the sensing performance. Numerical examples are shown to validate the effectiveness of the presented design techniques.","PeriodicalId":201479,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Workshop on Measurement and Networking (M&N)","volume":"105 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132368893","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Despite there is no one technology able to cope with all possible scenarios, LPWAN solutions are emerging as viable technologies for implementing private, low-cost cellular like wireless networks. Distributed systems could leverage this approach as a driving technology for services as smart environment sensing, pervasive sensing and so on. In the considered scenario, the capacity of the network is of main importance; even if communication is sporadic for most of the time, an event observed by many nodes results in a huge amount of simultaneous transmissions. Are the IoT technologies usable to this end? In this paper LoRaWAN technology is investigated, with the aim of evaluating the orthogonality of virtual channels permitted by the LoRa physical layer. In particular, measurements demonstrated that overlapping transmissions having the same power at the receiver can be correctly decoded if occurring with different spreading factors, whereas co-spread messages require at least 4ms spacing.","PeriodicalId":201479,"journal":{"name":"2017 IEEE International Workshop on Measurement and Networking (M&N)","volume":"34 12 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131770010","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
