The regulations found in regional and national catalogues have been used, which consider the endangered (EN) and vulnerable (VU) threatened species distributed in three environments: (1) beaches and dunes; (2) cliffs and rocks; (3) marshes and estuaries, also including seagrass meadows. The aim of this study is to conduct a comparative analysis of the protected and endemic coastal flora in different coastal areas of Peninsular Spain and the Balearic Islands. Various aspects are examined, including habitats preferences, coastal surface area in each region, the number and types of endemic species, and their presence in different catalogs documented in regional legislation, both current and repealed. The objective is to determine whether the distribution of these species is influenced by territorial factors or if it is an administrative matter. The results reveal a high number of region-specific endemisms (32.7% of the total coastal flora) and significant differences in the number of protected taxa among autonomous communities. Additionally, it was found that there is no significant correlation between the distribution of these taxa and the considered territorial variables, suggesting that the distribution of these species is more closely related to administrative factors, such as the continuous updating of catalogs. We also suggest the protection of taxa that occupy a small area and have been described in recent years or are included in regional or national red lists and are not included in the regional catalogues.","PeriodicalId":20099,"journal":{"name":"Plant Biosystems - An International Journal Dealing with all Aspects of Plant Biology","volume":"11 1","pages":"1114 - 1123"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81396817","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Different soil textures were identified including sandy loam, clay and sandy clay loam. The plants exhibiting the highest degree of morphological development were identified in the Gabes region. The best nutrient composition value was recorded for the Gafsa and the Gabes regions. Among the mineral elements detected, the highest amounts of Mg and Ca were found in the Sidi Bouzid region with 29.61 and 50.07 mg kg−1, respectively. They depended on geographical location, altitude, average rainfall and the physiological condition of the plant. Plants from the Gafsa region exhibited the highest levels of phenolic and flavonoid contents measuring 187.47 mg GAE/g and 29.76 mg QE/g, respectively. Antioxidant activity was in accordance with total phenols of the three localities and the lowest IC50 values for DPPH scavenging and FRAP assay was recorded for the Gafsa region. The findings demonstrated that the studied species has the potential to serve as a valuable ecological natural source for bioactive antioxidant compounds. Furthermore, it shows promise as an alternative source for the production of β-amylase, L-asparaginase and lipoxygenase.","PeriodicalId":20099,"journal":{"name":"Plant Biosystems - An International Journal Dealing with all Aspects of Plant Biology","volume":"63 1","pages":"1093 - 1099"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-03","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76659417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Classical cytogenetic with the Feulgen technique and banding with Giemsa was used. Pentaploid, hexaploid and heptaploid levels of ploidy are here reported. The complement of the rare heptaploid cytotype consisted of 2n = 7x = 63: 49 m + 14sm chromosomes. Two heptaploid specimens with chromosome numbers 60 and 62 were also found. Karyotypes were symmetrical, with metacentric chromosomes more numerous than submetacentric. The morphometric parameters MCA and CVCL were used for the evaluation of karyotype asymmetry. For the first time, a detailed study using Giemsa C-banding is reported. The C-banding patterns included centromeric and terminal bands. In the cytotype with 62 chromosomes, the banding patterns identified the presence of a chromosome with terminal band in both arms. To explain the origin of this karyotype, we suggest that fusion occurred between a group IV chromosome and a group V chromosome. The relationship between the polyploid cytotypes of M. neglectum is discussed.","PeriodicalId":20099,"journal":{"name":"Plant Biosystems - An International Journal Dealing with all Aspects of Plant Biology","volume":"13 1","pages":"1085 - 1092"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78550916","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
