Nevertheless, hybrid vehicles are not a mass product up to now. Although the life cycle costs of the hybrid cars are usually smaller than the costs for comparable fuel vehicles, the main purchase criteria for vehicles are still the acquisition costs, leading to a preference for conventional fuel cars. So as to increase the number of hybrid vehicles, the production costs have to be lowered. In hybrid vehicles, the energy distribution system causes a significant share of volume and costs. One part of this system is the dc-dc converter that transfers power between the low- and high-voltage buses. In order to reduce the costs and the volume of this converter, two new concepts for integrating the dc-dc converter functionality into the traction drive system have been presented in [1]. This paper will present different switching strategies to improve the efficiency of the total system. Starting from the phase-shift modulation known from the conventional Dual Active Bridge, the switching instants are optimized regarding efficiency to obtain the optimal modulation. In addition, a concept with multiple switching during the inverter's switching period is analyzed as well as a slightly modified system, where one leg of the dc-dc converter is implemented as a three-level switch. These four switching strategies are analyzed and compared. Based on a discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) detection circuit, it is shown how an extension to the predictive current control law leads to improved current regulation over wide load range in both continuous conduction mode (CCM) and in DCM. Furthermore, adaptive switching and adaptive switching frequency techniques are introduced to reduce switching losses and improve efficiency at light loads. The leakage inductance and winding capacitance of the transformer are used as the resonant elements. An additional series resonant capacitor is added to form the LCC topology. The discontinuous current mode (DCM) is adopted to achieve the ZCS turn-on and ZVZCS turn-off of the power switches. Smaller value of the winding capacitance is preferred because it has the effect of decreasing the peak value of the resonant current at almost the same output voltage. The theoretic calculation of the winding capacitance and leakage inductance of the transformer is given. The error between the theoretical calculation and practical measurement is within 15%. So optimization design of the parasitic resonant elements can be achieved to meet requirement of the circuit. A prototype of LCC resonant converter with 60kW and 60kV output is built based on the designed transformer. The leakage inductance of the coupled inductors can be employed to control the diode current falling rate and to alleviate the diode reverse-recovery problem. Then, some soft switching solutions are realized by the coupled inductor to reduce the switching losses. Furthermore, the coupled inductor can be operated in transformer mode to avoid the extreme duty cycle and to reduce the current ripple in high step-up or step-down conversion. However, the leakage inductance of the coupled inductors may induce high voltage spikes, which will increase the switch voltage stress, result in serious EMI noise and reduce the system efficiency. Even, it will break down the circuit. In one word, the coupled inductor is a two-side sword, which we should consider carefully. The applications of the coupled inductor in DC/DC converters are summarized and classified in this paper. A systematic discussion is given to focus on the performances of the coupled inductor in DC/DC converters. Under this failure mode, the voltage across the dc-link capacitors is doubled when any of the ac switches in the neutral path of the converter is shorted, a unique behavior of three-level neutral-point clamped topologies. Addressing this, two types of protection methods are proposed, discussed and analyzed in this paper, the voltage clamping and the current breaking protection schemes. The impact of the ac inductors on the voltage-doubling phenomenon is studied carefully, and a guideline for the protection scheme selection is provided. Compared with non-isolated DC-DC converters, isolated ones need to realize isolation of control between primary and secondary side. In this paper, the whole digital control system is implemented using two FPGAs. The one on the secondary side includes a compensator (PI regulator), a high resolution digital PWM (DPWM), a modulator and a carrier transmitter. Another one on the primary side contains a carrier receiver, a demodulator and a subsidiary controller to fulfill some protection and generate synchronous signal. Several approaches to modulate and demodulate DPWM signal are proposed and analyzed. The main circuit of the proposed circuit consists of a diodeclamped linear amplifier (DCLA) and a dc-voltage equalizing circuit. The dc-voltage equalizing circuit consists of a series-connected switched capacitor converter enabling to use a diode rectifier as its power supply. A zero-sequence voltage control method is introduced to expand the output voltage range as well as to reduce the theoretical power loss caused by an active-state operation.
