Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive study was conducted among women with UI in the province of Istanbul, involving 161 women aged 40 years and older who had given birth at least once between June and September 2021. Data were collected using a questionnaire form, the Urogenital Distress Inventory (UDI-6), and the Incontinence Impact Questionnaire (IIQ-7). Results: The mean age of women was 57.08±9.86. Women’s mean score of the UDI-6 and mean score of the IIQ-7 were found to be 46.30±20.61 and 34.45±22.98 respectively. A significant difference was found between the women’s UDI-6 scores and IIQ-7 scores and education, having a vaginal operation, constant drug use, and the behavior at the first appearance of UI (P<0.05). A positive correlation was found between the UDI-6 and the IIQ-7 (r=0.658; P=0.000). Conclusion: The daily life of women with high severity of UI symptoms was more adversely affected. As age, weight, body mass index, the number of births, the number of miscarriages, the number of pregnancies, and the duration of UI increased, the severity of symptoms also increased.","PeriodicalId":200312,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Modern Nursing Practice and Research","volume":" 9","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2024-02-08","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139792489","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article delves into the concept, functionality, and applications of mental simulation in nurse education, specifically addressing stress mitigation in emergency care. We offer an overview of relevant literature and research, including a specific focus on surgical skills education. The mechanisms of mental simulation, encompassing the simulation theory of action and dual code theory, are discussed, providing valuable insights into neural networks and image evocation processes. The article underscores the significant impact of stress on emergency care performance. It highlights the potential benefits of incorporating mental simulation as a stress-exposure training technique in the learning process. By adopting a Bandurian theoretical framework, the article proposes how mental simulation can contribute to the cultivation of self-efficacious nurses. Integrating mental simulation in nurse education has the potential to mitigate stress’s negative impact on emergency care. Nurses mentally rehearse and simulate scenarios, becoming familiar with demands and stressors. This practice can potentially refine skills, improve performance under pressure, and boost self-efficacy. Mental simulation replicates real-life situations, enhancing learning from a patient safety perspective. Mental simulation enhances self-efficacy and stress management in emergency care. Its integration into nurse education prepares nurses for high-stress situations. Further research should explore its diverse applications. Understanding mental simulation mechanisms can improve training programmes, potentially empowering nurses in delivering self-confident emergency care.","PeriodicalId":200312,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Modern Nursing Practice and Research","volume":"258 3","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-12-22","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"139165504","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Utilization of quizzes as a study strategy increases knowledge retention, as shown by improved academic performance. Methods: This quantitative, quasi-experimental study utilized a convenience sample of recent nursing graduates. The control group received only unit exams and a final exam. The experimental group received unit exams, a final exam, and quizzes. This study evaluated if the addition of quizzing had any impact on the long-term retention of knowledge, as evidenced by improved National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) success. Results: The results of the study showed that there were no significant statistical differences noted in NCLEX-RN scores for students who participated in quizzes (97.6%) versus those who did not (96.1%) (P=0.3627). Therefore, the study did not demonstrate a correlation between the use of quizzing and pass rates. Conclusion: While the current experiment did not demonstrate a correlation between the use of quizzing and pass rates, additional studies should be conducted to further investigate the long-term benefits to students.","PeriodicalId":200312,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Modern Nursing Practice and Research","volume":"30 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-08-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127836005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Objective: This study reveals these challenges before the COVID-19 pandemic and aims to improve the educational curriculum for baccalaureate student nurses at Schools of Nursing provincially, nationally, and internationally. Methods: A qualitative narrative inquiry research design exposed narratives from NGRNs working in 21st-century medical-surgical nursing environments. The research methodology of critical theory with narrative inquiry examined perspectives and experiences of NGRNs. Interviews were conducted with NGRNs working on medical-surgical nursing units. Results: NGRNs strongly recommend increased dedicated time in their nursing curriculum for the fundamental components of communication and leadership training. Recommendations were also made to enhance curriculum in other capacities, from acutely ill patient care and workload management to work-life balance and coping with shift work. Conclusion: The overwhelming number of NGRNs who identified communication and leadership as significant challenges in the medical-surgical nursing environment is substantial and commands attention. Implications for practice include review of education curriculum and committed support for NGRNs.","PeriodicalId":200312,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Modern Nursing Practice and Research","volume":"441 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-24","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124483568","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: A descriptive qualitative research design was used. The VR application was created by visualizing the fetal development, umbilical cord and placenta localization week by week and transferring them to the virtual environment. Forty-two midwifery students who experienced the practice were included in the study. Students who had previously taken fetal development in the normal pregnancy course were shown the application with VR glasses in the laboratory environment. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with a semi-structured interview form and a Presence Questionnaire developed by the researchers. They evaluated students’ perceptions of the practice’s strengths and weaknesses and whether the game would be useful as a learning too. Results: The thematic analysis resulted in the following components of the practice experience: interaction, motivation, knowledge, and realism. Students reported that it is effective for understanding fetal development and can be used in lessons. These results highlighted students’ acceptance of technology as a teaching and learning resource and showed potential for future developments. Conclusion: In line with these results, it was seen that the effect of the application was permanent. It has been seen that the VR method has a good practice effect in teaching fetal development and midwifery practice. More research is needed to assess whether students’ learning and retention of knowledge are improved using this new technology.","PeriodicalId":200312,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Modern Nursing Practice and Research","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-21","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114095198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The significant changes to daily life due to the COVID-19 pandemic have resulted in an increase of individuals struggling with mental health conditions including SUD. Training for nursing students is limited in mental health, suggesting the need to find ways to efficiently provide this much needed educational content in variable curriculum designs. Methods: Accelerated undergraduate nursing students from an urban Midwest University were asked to participate in a pre-post quality improvement mixed methods study. Themes derived from the responses from the pre-survey were used to create mental health content which addressed fears and discomfort associated with SUDs. Following the education a post survey was completed. Analysis of descriptive and inferential statistics were completed on variables. Results: The findings from both the pre and post survey indicated one of their biggest fears in working with individuals with SUD’s was encountering violence and aggression. After class, the post survey results indicated that their comfort level increased slightly after receiving the specific content in class. Conclusion: Providing educational exposure regarding mental health conditions may be a means to help to alleviate student anxiety towards this patient population. Improving student comfort in caring for the mental health population using tailored content which recognizes their fears may also promote improved quality of care.","PeriodicalId":200312,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Modern Nursing Practice and Research","volume":" 24","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-07-20","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132074869","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
