The base object is an object which is a basis for navigation; forward navigation is provided for the reference paths ahead of the base object and backward navigation for the ones behind it. SOPView+ allows users to change the base object along the reference hierarchy among a number of database objects; this makes it possible for them to explore a large database until they find objects of their interest on the limited screen space, solving the screen real estate problem. SOPView+ also supports extended synchronized browsing, which synchronizes displaying objects along both forward and backward navigational paths.","PeriodicalId":199960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twenty-First Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC'97)","volume":"53 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121140258","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The framework is based on the entity-relation (E-R) model and uses a recursive graph structure, known as R-graph, to support the views of software quality and risk. The fundamental mechanism for abstracting views is the introduction of two semantic operators for the R-graph. These operators are proposed based on graph-based predicates and Petri-net based predicate formalism for view abstraction.","PeriodicalId":199960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twenty-First Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC'97)","volume":"44 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114744704","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our approach, each software component is annotated with a set of predicates to formally describe the component and is classified using a faceted scheme. A user may retrieve components from the library using either keywords or predicates. When a component is retrieved, it is checked to determine if it matches the requirements. Then, the component is integrated with the designed system, along its required functionalities. The integrated component/system as transformed into a Predicate/Transition net (PrT net) to perform consistency checking. If there is no inconsistency, the component may be adapted or incorporated directly. Otherwise, the conditions that cause the inconsistency will be revealed. The user may decide to search the library again by modifying the query specification and restart the whole process, or to terminate the search.","PeriodicalId":199960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twenty-First Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC'97)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130093721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Transactions in real time databases should be scheduled considering both data consistency and timing constraints. In addition, a real time database must adapt to changes in the operating environment and guarantee the completion of critical tasks. The effects of scheduling decisions and concurrency control mechanisms for real time database systems have typically been demonstrated in a simulated environment. We present a functional real time database server called DRDB, which provides an operational platform for research in distributed real time database issues.","PeriodicalId":199960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twenty-First Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC'97)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117094417","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Developing parallel hash join algorithms is known as an efficient method to improve their performance. Since a parallel processing environment of a networked cluster of nodes is widely available for its advantages of low-cost, high speed and ease of use, we developed a parallel hash-based join algorithm in a networked cluster of multiprocessor nodes. The parallel hash-based join algorithm has two features. One is that it takes advantage of parallel and distributed environments in which shared-memory multiprocessor computers are nodes of a networked cluster. The other is that a distributed shared virtual space is integrated into the design of the parallel hash-based join algorithm so as to facilitate the algorithm and its implementation. In this paper, we present the ideas of design, describe the parallel hash-based join algorithm, show the performance evaluation of it, as well as give a dynamic changing message model for the presence of skew.","PeriodicalId":199960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twenty-First Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC'97)","volume":"21 2B 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123467162","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Each mobile node is identified by its home address disregarding its current location in the Internet. While away from home, a mobile node is associated with a care-of address which gives information about its current location. Mobile IP specifies how a mobile node registers with its home agent and how the home agent routes datagrams to the mobile node through a tunnel. The authors first outline the Mobile IP protocol and its extension mechanism defined for carrying information. They then present the architecture of their working implementation which is based on objected-oriented methodology. Finally some implementation considerations and challenges for Mobile IP are investigated.","PeriodicalId":199960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twenty-First Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC'97)","volume":"316 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132422925","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Software measurement in the U.S. Army 美国陆军的软件测量

The Army has found that the larger the organization, the higher in the hierarchy the requirement for software measurement needs to be stated. The reason for this stems from the growing diversity of developers in larger organizations. Small organizations that have a well defined process for developing software, or a common set of software development tools, can require that specific data elements be collected, or specific measurements be taken. If larger organizations attempting to impose such specific requirements on developers are likely to meet some resistance, a tight policy does not allow for variation in development processes and development tools. With software development centers building air defense systems in Huntsville, Alabama; command and control systems in Monmouth, New Jersey; logistics systems in Petersburg, Virginia; personnel systems in Fairfax, Virginia; communications systems in Sierra Vista, Arizona; aviation systems in St. Louis, Missouri, armor systems in Picatinny, New Jersey and Detroit Michigan, and engineering systems at various locations throughout the US, the Army must have a policy for software measurement that puts in place flexible reporting requirements, yet provides training and support tailored to the needs of specific programs.","PeriodicalId":199960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twenty-First Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC'97)","volume":"2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134524061","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In conventional manufacturing systems, these two kinds of systems are separated and connected by gateways in a hierarchical structure. Both systems need to be integrated, however, in order to increase productivity and to enable the systems to be modified frequently. Timely production and frequent rescheduling of production are required in order to meet rapid changes in customer demands. These integrated systems must also be expandable and flexible. The differences of properties between information and control systems had made it impossible to integrate these systems, so an autonomous decentralized software structure implemented using three new technologies is proposed. These technologies are a timer trigger mechanism that manages the triggering of different kinds of information and control application programs, an interface management mechanism that manages different kinds of data received by these programs, and a message filtering mechanism that segregates the messages transmitted among heterogeneous applications and thus prevents the different applications from interrupting each other's operations. This new software structure has been applied to manufacturing systems, and the effectiveness of the proposed technologies has been confirmed.","PeriodicalId":199960,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings Twenty-First Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference (COMPSAC'97)","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1997-08-11","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133551052","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
