Modern airliners are equipped with advanced ways of data collection of most flight and technical parameters that can be used to optimize their operations. This study deals with the pneumatic system (ATA36 chapter) of the B737NG aircraft that is susceptible to failures in the operations, leading to the aircraft becoming unserviceable for periods of time. A novel approach is proposed to analyze the system behavior by its modeling by means of the Unified Modeling Language (UML) and Fault-tree analysis, using real operational data. Next, this paper proposes simple operational measures than can avoid the aircraft on ground (AOG) states and decrease unexpected expenses due to the system failure. The results show that this new approach is very practical and can have significant effect on the airline operations, largely reducing extra costs and flight delays and allowing for better planning of aircraft maintenace.","PeriodicalId":198861,"journal":{"name":"2020 New Trends in Civil Aviation (NTCA)","volume":"08 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121442954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The evaluation is based on the Functional Resonance Analysis Method (FRAM) and the applied computation of the model follows existing research on FRAM. Variability for each security check function in terms of time and precision is defined, considering also the external conditions affecting the system. Next, an application is developed, which represents the interface between the FRAM-based calculations and the user. The main goal of the application is evaluation of security check according to the provided measurement inputs and provision of practical representation of the results to the industry experts. The results indicate that FRAM can be used for the purpose of modeling security systems and that the modeling results can help industry experts to identify their weak points, together with suggestions how they could be improved.","PeriodicalId":198861,"journal":{"name":"2020 New Trends in Civil Aviation (NTCA)","volume":"34 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132644090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

And it is expected that this number will continue increasing in the future. The SUAS may be operated in proximity of aerial vehicles (including aircraft) and it may be necessary to detect them electronically. One possibility is to equip SUAS with Automatic Dependent Surveillance – Broadcast (ADS-B) surveillance system operating on 1090 MHz frequency. The purpose of this study is to investigate the impact of SUAS ADS-B 1090 transmissions on the reception of an aircraft ADS-B Extended Squitter by an ADS-B ground station. The systems being considered operate at low altitudes, typically under 500 ft above ground level (AGL). We found that high number of SUAS equipped with ADS-B flying close to ground ADS-B sensors can have significant impact on the operational range up to 40%.","PeriodicalId":198861,"journal":{"name":"2020 New Trends in Civil Aviation (NTCA)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131382964","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the phenomena affecting the performance of the pilot or other aviation specialists is undoubtedly the fatigue. Dangerous situations can occur, especially when fatigue accumulates. Monitoring fatigue is therefore in the interest of all stakeholders as well as the aviation authorities, which have developed Fatigue Risk Management System. In spite of the fact that the system itself at its highest level also uses the objective data, to this day, the monitoring of fatigue in aviation has mainly been based on a questionnaire survey. Although, the standardized NASA Task Load Index (NASA TLX) is often applied, it remains questionable whether such a questionnaire realistically reflects the fatigue. Based on previously mentioned, the NASA TLX was modified to focus on pilot fatigue and then applied during 24-hour measurements for the purposes of this paper. Eight pilots took part in the measurement, each of them performed 8 simulated flights. From the results of the questionnaire survey, a window of circadian low can be observed, in accordance with the evaluated theta/alpha parameter obtained by spectral analysis of EEG records. The results therefore indicate that such a questionnaire is able to indicate fatigue.","PeriodicalId":198861,"journal":{"name":"2020 New Trends in Civil Aviation (NTCA)","volume":"202 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132641983","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A four-step method is used to evaluate the produced results. This paper outlines what are the limitations of this approach, as well as its usefulness in trying to extract information from thirty randomly selected free text reports when asking the following question: “When did the incident happen?”. We aim to try to integrate one of the algorithms resulting of the recent advances in Natural Language Processing (NLP) to leverage information in natural language narratives, as opposed to working directly with the structured part of the ASRS dataset. We find that our approach yields interesting results, with roughly seventy percent correct answers, including answers that have information that is not overlapping with the ASRS dataset’s metadata.","PeriodicalId":198861,"journal":{"name":"2020 New Trends in Civil Aviation (NTCA)","volume":"28 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116346195","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The main contribution of this device is, that it allows to test the actual values of the reaction times at any given time and in any given situation without the necessity of the complicated hardware or software set-ups. It’s construction allows to be used in e.g. the pre-flight psycho-physiological assessment’s of the pilots directly short before the flight conduction or monitoring the daily fluctuation of the reactions readiness directly in the work environment of the concerned study subjects. The basic electrical scheme and the hardware and software components are presented. Furthermore, there was a successful experiment proposed and conducted to test the technical functionalities. Also the usability validation and comparison has been made with the positive outcomes.","PeriodicalId":198861,"journal":{"name":"2020 New Trends in Civil Aviation (NTCA)","volume":"115 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132731585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This research deals with pattern recognition of the time evolution of quality indicators in transmitted Automatic Dependent Surveillance - Broadcast (ADS-B) messages during GNSS jamming in non jammed data over Central Europe. An evaluation of the quality indicators from all messages within a one month interval is presented. A practical jamming experiment was done to determine how the quality indicators are changing during a jamming presence. Afterwards, the results of the experiment are used as a foundation for the proposed jamming detection technique using ADS-B data based on pattern recognition and cluster analysis. A natural presence of a quality indicators variability is proven in the data using these methods, similar to the indicators variability during GNSS jamming.","PeriodicalId":198861,"journal":{"name":"2020 New Trends in Civil Aviation (NTCA)","volume":"264 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-11-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117102676","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
