The main contribution is that School Facilities Planning (SFP) in the dynamic environment to enhance adequate and quality school facilities is determined by the presence of vision and mission statements, positive school culture, technological environment and monitoring and evaluation. This article looks not beyond the planning but rather at the dynamics of planning discourse itself. It explains how dynamic environment in Tanzania facilitates, and sometimes constrains, the mobilization of resources to implement school facilities plans. It draws from the discursive construction of social actors in SFP from 2010 to 2019. Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) was used as a theory, methodology, and data analysis strategy. Major findings indicate that, in order to improve planning in the dynamic environment, vision and mission statements should be established in schools and emphasize SFP; there should be a culture of facilities planning in schools; technological environment should be emphasized to facilitate durable and quality school facilities; and monitoring and evaluation should be emphasized to facilitate SFP.","PeriodicalId":196664,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Operations and Strategic Planning","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121364961","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The benefits and harm to the environment arising from preventive measures such as lockdown, wearing masks, travel restrictions, and hand washing are described. Three tools are used in the evaluation: (a) evaluation of risks in the supply chain using failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA), (b) evaluation of risks due to social behavior, using the tool RIKA and (c) environmental impact assessment. Risk communication and risk mitigation strategies are described. COVID-19 presents us an ideal opportunity to learn from the benefits and adopt measures to minimize environmental harm.","PeriodicalId":196664,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Operations and Strategic Planning","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129503308","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this study, a comprehensive literature review is done to determine the CSFs and develop an initial CSFs hierarchy model to achieve operational excellence in the Sudanese aviation industry. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is used for evaluating and ranking the determined CSFs. The study’s findings propose a conceptual model, using the AHP approach for operational excellence implementation in Sudanese aviation industry. As a result, the CSFs of operational excellence were provided and dissected to reveal its integrated components and the levels of their importance, without any of which the achievement of operational excellence would be impossible. These include leadership, people management, continuous improvement, operational strategy, and asset optimization.","PeriodicalId":196664,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Operations and Strategic Planning","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122681223","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Many recent studies have shown that strategic planning helps organizations to gain competitive advantage over their rivals. However, other empirical studies found strategic planning to have no effect on competitive advantage. This study attempted to settle this inconclusive debate and included a mediating variable on this association using a data sample collected from Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority (TAZARA) employees who are in management. This research contributes to literature by determining the mediation effect of customer focus on the relationship between strategic planning and competitive advantage. The reliability, validity, and model fit were all checked using principal component analysis, factor analysis, and regression analysis in Jamovi software. The results reveal that a positive significant relationship exists between strategic planning and competitive advantage and also between customer focus and competitive advantage. Customer focus was found to partially mediate the association between strategic planning and competitive advantage. The study results may assist decision-makers in the railway sector to be more customer focusing and practicing strategic planning in order to survive this tense fierce competition of the twenty-first century. Scholars are recommended to replicate this study to other sectors and include other mediating/moderating variables.","PeriodicalId":196664,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Operations and Strategic Planning","volume":"62 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123463800","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A new wave of entrepreneurs emerging from across the African continent are now addressing this issue through efforts to grow the domestic chocolate industry. The case of ‘57 Chocolate presents an entrepreneurial initiative of two African women who are on a mission to revolutionize the chocolate industry using cocoa beans from Ghana. The case unfolds with a duo of Pan African sisters, Kimberly and Priscilla Addison, passionately using local cocoa to make premium African chocolates that are now available in both local and global markets. In addition to discussing how the brand is standing out in the chocolate market, the case identifies the competitors and goes on to evaluate how the entrepreneurial spirit of the founders is uplifting the image of Ghana.","PeriodicalId":196664,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Operations and Strategic Planning","volume":"205 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131869178","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Utilising the Scopus database, a total of 1,103 papers, published from the year 1999 to 2018, have been analysed in this study. A classification of these papers is presented further on the basis of important journals, papers with maximum citations, year-wise publication trends, subject-wise distribution, most productive countries and institutions, and eminent authors. Further, the VOSviewer software is utilised for providing a co-authorship analysis, international collaboration patterns, keywords co-occurrences analysis, co-citation analysis and bibliographic coupling analysis. The results show that the research on this area has been rapidly growing; the maximum papers have been contributed by developed countries such as the USA, UK and China. Furthermore, the most cited paper is about entrepreneurship, innovation and economic growth, and the maximum research has been carried out in the subject areas of business, management and accounting.","PeriodicalId":196664,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Operations and Strategic Planning","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-06-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128493080","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The authors used qualitative research method with a semi-structured open-ended questionnaire to collect the data. Thematic content analysis was applied for data analysis. The data was collected in June 2020 in India when the initial unlock process was going on. The application of Situation Actor Process–Learning Action Performance (SAP-LAP) framework in conjunction with strategic management theories such as RBV and DCV provided a holistic understanding of the phenomenon. This study was also a demonstration of how a critical crisis situation like COVID-19 could relate to the SAP-LAP framework. The author found that shopkeepers developed new sets of valuable and rare and inimitable resources and capabilities. While all the aspects of sensing, seizing, and reconfiguration were attained to while devising the shops reopening strategies, new sets of resources and capabilities to attend to customers were also developed.","PeriodicalId":196664,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Operations and Strategic Planning","volume":"16 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-02-02","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122134562","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thirty variables were identified through systematic literature review that can influence consumers’ perception of digital transactions. Data were collected from 525 millennials from north India. After performing factor analysis, five broad factors were identified namely (a) personal characteristics and incentives, (b) knowledge technical capability, (c) perceived usefulness, (d) sense of security, and (e) transaction risk, which affect the perception and intention as well as adaption of young consumers regarding the digital transactions. Using regression analysis, factors affecting consumer’s perception and readiness regarding digital transactions are modeled out. The study also examines the influence on intention to adopt digital transactions and the actual adaption of digital transactions. Further, the study concludes that consumer intention to make digital transactions mediates the relationship between factors of digital transactions and digital transaction adaption behavior.","PeriodicalId":196664,"journal":{"name":"Journal of Operations and Strategic Planning","volume":"2260 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-11-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130234644","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
