The system nonlinearity, time delay and change of parameters are the main problems in design of a desired controller for this plant. To design a controller, the linear models of the system and the disturbance models at different operating points are derived. Then, a parametric uncertainty profile is obtained by system identification strategies which is used in QFT control design. Indeed, for Hinfin control design a multiplicative unstructured model is extracted from the parametric uncertainty. All constraints in control design, disturbance rejection and control signal are derived. Based on these constraints, appropriate controllers are determined. To improve robust performance mu-synthesis with DK iteration is used. Finally all results are compared by applying the different controllers to the plant.","PeriodicalId":196254,"journal":{"name":"2008 Annual IEEE India Conference","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116136571","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Electromagnetic levitation system (EMLS) is inherently unstable and strongly nonlinear in nature. In most cases a classical controller has been designed for the linear model around an operating point for maintaining overall closed-loop stability. So the performances of the linear controller with the change in different parameters have been studied. The parameters of the designed controller also get varied during experimentation. So a sensitivity study of the controller for an EMLS is also important.","PeriodicalId":196254,"journal":{"name":"2008 Annual IEEE India Conference","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126021413","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The measurement and control applications for wind tunnel testing typically include the wind speed measurement and control; static and dynamic force measurement, pressure profile measurement; and position and motion control for orienting the model with respect to the wind direction. These applications are repetitive as well as time consuming hence needs to be automated. This paper presents the implementation aspects of a reliable and accurate LabVIEW-based automated wind tunnel instrumentation system. The implemented system permits the aerodynamic measurements to be performed efficiently and without intervention. Most importantly, it relieves the operator of the usual responsibility for manually controlling the position and orientation of the model as well as the need to manually set the desired wind speed for the test. The system has been implemented at National Wind Tunnel Facility, IIT Kanpur using virtual instrumentation technique and PXI architecture which enhances the productivity and reduces the cost through easy-to-integrate LabVIEW-based application software and PXI modular hardware. However, the system presented in this paper has been configured for automated wind tunnel testing, but can also be easily configured to perform various test and measurement functions automatically for aerospace/military, bio-medical, process control, and robotics applications.","PeriodicalId":196254,"journal":{"name":"2008 Annual IEEE India Conference","volume":"41 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130348021","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We begin by extending the stochastic channel model developed for Differential Mode (DM) signals to model the channels of both CM and DM signals. The characteristics of the resulting CM-DM joint channel are first studied. This is expected to help in the development of computationally efficient algorithms for FEXT cancellation. In, the capacity improvement with use of CM-DM was studied for the overall channel. The rate gain with CM-DM joint processing as compared to DM only processing is shown to be a strong function of frequency and the loop length, an observation that is of critical importance for development of FEXT cancellation algorithms. It is shown that such joint processing is beneficial for longer loops and for high frequency subcarriers.","PeriodicalId":196254,"journal":{"name":"2008 Annual IEEE India Conference","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127931937","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In the present scenario, it is relevant to consider some similar pricing mechanism in distribution as transmission, such as nodal pricing, that gives a short term marginal cost of electricity as product of nodal price and load at each load bus. In order to maximize the revenue of DG as a reward for voltage improvement, and, reducing line losses and line loading, it should be placed at a node with highest nodal price. There had been studies to place the distributed generations with different objective function assuming the load as constant. However, the loads are sensitive to voltage and frequency. Accordingly, in this study voltage dependent model of loads have been included while determining the node with highest nodal price for locating DG to obtain maximum revenue. It will be shown that DG may obtain more revenue under nodal price for its contribution towards voltage improvement, reducing losses and improving line loading. The proposed strategy is applied to power distribution systems, and its effectiveness is verified through simulation results on a rural radial distribution system under time varying loading conditions.","PeriodicalId":196254,"journal":{"name":"2008 Annual IEEE India Conference","volume":"20 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117071394","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Conventional handoff algorithms use averaging method to minimize fluctuations of received signal strength at a mobile station (MS). The algorithm provides good performance under dynamic propagation environment and provides very less delay as averaging of signal strength is not done. The signal to interference power ratio (SIR) at the output of this discriminator has been calculated as a function of the input signal to interference power ratio, and the detuning of the monotone interference from the FM carrier. The signal to interference power ratio at the output of the discriminator has a typical value of 33 dB when the signal to interference power ratio at the input is 20 dB. The static frequency response of the discriminator has been experimentally measured in presence and in absence of the monotone interference. The interference is found to exert a pull on the frequency response of the discriminator towards itself.","PeriodicalId":196254,"journal":{"name":"2008 Annual IEEE India Conference","volume":"144 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122680175","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This is often obtained from a three-phase diode bridge mains rectifier with a large output capacitor to keep the DC link voltage essentially constant. The AC currents at the input of the bridge are often discontinuous and contain high levels of harmonics. Harmonic currents from non linear loads are unacceptable, as they penetrate the supply system and affect the voltage at the point of common coupling. In this paper a single stage, three-phase AC-to-DC converter topology, with new structure for high power applications is proposed. The principle features of the topology include continuous current operation of the input source inductors, inherent active wave shaping of the input currents, resulting in a high power factor operation. Only two active switches are required. Both the switches are soft-switched. The high frequency (HF) current injection technique is used. The diodes of rectifier also show soft-switching. The simulation results and experimental results for a laboratory prototype for 5 kW converter are presented.","PeriodicalId":196254,"journal":{"name":"2008 Annual IEEE India Conference","volume":"38 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2008-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123344326","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
