It gives a statement on the extent and the present level of secular changes in selected characteristics. Over long periods of time a becoming slimmer of today's population of Jena schoolchildren is documented. The first part deals with an indirect mechanism of action of ATB, i.e. with changes induced in the bacterial cell which in turn renders these bacteria susceptible to phagocytosis. Midstream morning urine specimens of children with untreated urinary tract infection (group AO), with recurrent urinary tract infection in the symptom-free period (group D), of healthy girls (group CW), healthy boys (group CM), of children with acute infections other than urinary tract infections (group B) and with acute urinary tract infections after 8 days of antibiotic therapy (group A8) were examined for number of leucocytes and proportion of granulocytes (PMNL) in percent. There were significant differences in leucocyte numbers between groups D, CW and A8 on the one hand and CM and B on the other The granulocytes percentages differed significantly between AO, D and CW, CM, A8. Extremely high is the number of illnesses of the upper respiratory tract with otitis media, conjunctivitis and with enteritis from October to March. In an industrial conglomerate combined effects of harmful substances are possible. Present measurements of industrial waste are insufficient. An active or passive immunization is limited necessarily by the wide range of organisms causing neonatal infections. There exist first experiences regarding the prophylactic use of intravenous gammaglobulins for high-risk neonates or pregnant women with symptoms of infection and at risk for preterm delivery. The measurements were performed while the subjects were at rest and during a calculation load test. An anticipatory effect in the release of catecholamine and phasic phenomena were observed. By using a decision tree an analysis is made about which types of handedness are possible in visually guided reaching. 2. The terms \"ipsilateral handedness\" and \"contralateral handedness\" are created. Considering the possible combinations 9 types of handedness can be described. 3. By analysis of information processing for using the right or the left hand in visually guided reaching the following facts can be described: a) The shortest time needed for decisions is found in the case of pure right- or left-handedness. b) If the object is in the symmetric plane and if the animal is not purely right- or left-handed a decision may be impossible. 4. In conclusion children should be urged decisively to use the right or left hand. The expected prevalence of the diseases in the young population (0-18 years) is 2-3% and still higher in regions with heavy air pollution. The pediatric working group of bronchopneumonology (in the Pediatric Society of the GDR) has organized a country-wide system of pediatric bronchopneumonologic consultation centres in the form of district (2nd level) and county dispensaries (3rd level) helping the local primary care pediatricians and general practitioners (1st level) in diagnostics, therapy and surveillance of such patients. The bronchopneumonologic county centres with all modern diagnostic and therapeutic facilities have a capacity which is sufficient for our country.
