This technique has great relevance for the early diagnosis of premalignant and malignant lesions due to its practicality and lack of invasiveness. The aim of this study was to evaluate the success of Raman spectroscopy on early diagnosis of oral lesions with a predisposition to malignancy and malignant lesions. A literature review was carried out in PubMed, SciELO, Google Scholar and Lilacs databases, using keywords \"precancerous lesions\", \"Raman Spectral Analysis\" and \"oral neoplasia\". Thirty-two articles were found and 12 were selected, based on the exclusion criteria (review articles and articles that were not studying oral lesions). The high success rates of Raman spectroscopic technique was observed in the rapid identification of malignant or premalignant cells other forms of oral dysplasias in oral lesions due to the practicality of the laser apparatus and lack of invasiveness. It is concluded that the diagnosis by Raman spectroscopy is effective due to its ease-of-use and a great possibility to provide early diagnosis affording successful treatment of oral precancer and cancer.","PeriodicalId":19556,"journal":{"name":"Oral health and dental management","volume":"23 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"83216306","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Material and methods: Prospective uncontrolled study design was carried out with sixty cancer patients were enrolled in this study. Oral microflora of the buccal mucosa was cultured from two saliva samples before chemotherapy and after receiving the first dose of chemotherapy. Convenience-based sampling method was used based on the patient availability on recruitment days. Informed consent was obtained from the patients for enrollment in the present study. Results: The results from this study have shown that in general, no statistically significant differences were found in the existence of bacteria between before and after chemotherapy, there is no association between the changes of bacterial types and chemotherapy. Types and number of oral bacteria were found to correlate to degree of oral health care or oral hygiene, saliva, and gender, and there is a direct relation between chemotherapy and decrease saliva amount and viscosity and the development of bad oral habits after chemotherapy in these patients. Conclusion: the results of this study indicate that there were no changes in the microflora in the oral cavity in denture wearing cancer patients within seven days of the first dose of chemotherapy. No correlations between oral mucositis and specific microorganisms were assessed.","PeriodicalId":19556,"journal":{"name":"Oral health and dental management","volume":"171 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"84996834","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Methods: The survey was conducted in Tirana, Albania. A questionnaire regarding the dentist’s attitude toward “Pain-free Local Anesthetic Techniques in Children” was used. It was structured as anonymous with six closed-ended questions in a Liker scale. Also, dentist information about gender, age, region and years of practice was part of the form. The information collected was analyzed using IBM SPSS 20. Descriptive statistics and one way ANOVA was used in comparing groups. The results were evaluated within a 95% confidence interval. Statistical significance level was established at p<0.05. Results: A total of 203 dentists were included in the study. 86 (42.4%) were male and 117 (57.6%) were female dentists. Their mean age was 35 years old (sd 10.1) and the mean clinical practice experience was 10 years old (sd 9.5). 72 (35.5%) of dentists believed that pain is inevitable during local anesthesia in children and 158 (77.8%) agreed that cotton pallet should be better applied as a topical anesthetics. 128 (63%) of dentists believed in the possibility of pain-free local anesthesia in children. There was a higher agreement in males but not statistically significant. There was a statistically significant higher agreement between dentists in Tirana (the capital) p<0.03 compared with the other regions while experience (p<0.2) and age (p<0.9) did not show any significant change Conclusions: A higher proportion of Albanian dentists believe the importance of pain free dental injections in children. Especially dentists in urban seem to perform pain-free LA injections.","PeriodicalId":19556,"journal":{"name":"Oral health and dental management","volume":"2 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"89689087","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is generally considered a reactive, benign and self-limiting ulcer with raised and indurated margins, mainly affecting the tongue, cheeks, or, less frequently, lips. His typical histology shows a diffuse polymorphic cell inflammatory infiltrate composed predominantly of eosinophils involving the superficial mucosa and extending deep into the submucosa with degeneration of the underlying muscle layer. Aetiology is unknown and pathogenesis is not clear although trauma could have an important role in the origin and evolution of this lesion. Nevertheless, a correct diagnosis is difficult because the ulcer mimics a wide range of pathologies including microbial infections or cancer. This work describes a case of traumatic granuloma of the tongue in a child female focusing attention on the differential diagnosis of this unclear lesion","PeriodicalId":19556,"journal":{"name":"Oral health and dental management","volume":"1996 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78610832","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Two models with equal geometry were simulated-Model M1: fixed partial prosthesis with Cr-Co metallic infrastructure and feldspar ceramics coating Noritake Ex-3; Model M2: fixed partial prosthesis with PEEK infrastructure PEEK and indirect resin coating Sinfony. They were subjected to axial and oblique loads. The 3D models were entered in the software CAD Solidworks 2016 for registry and analysis. Data were analyzed according to the studied factors: dentin behavior, infrastructure, aesthetic coating, detachment pressure between tooth and cement, and tensile stress of cement. Most stress peaks were observed in model M2, but values from the two models were close. Model M1 showed better results in four of the factors: dentin, infrastructure, detachment pressure between tooth and cement, and cement tensile stress. Model M2 showed better performance in terms of the aesthetic coating. Similar values for both models in most of the simulations suggest a long lifespan of both treatments, although longer for model M1.","PeriodicalId":19556,"journal":{"name":"Oral health and dental management","volume":"39 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85337392","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Sometimes these symptoms of tingling and pain in the tongue can occur even without any pathological changes in the oral cavity. Low-level lasers, used in the therapy of some oral diseases, showed a positive effect after use, and the aim of this paper was to examine whether the analgesic effect of low-level laser has an effect on the reduction of subjective symptoms of burning and pain in the tongue, as well as whether it affects the quality of life of a patient. Material and Methods: The study included 45 patients who came to the Department of Oral Medicine and Periodontology of the Clinic for Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine, Nis. All of them had symptoms of burning and pain in the tongue. Twenty-six patients, randomly selected, in addition to symptomatic, also received low-level laser therapy to lose symptoms of burning and pain. A lowlevel laser KaVo MASTER lases, Biberach, Germany, was used, a wavelength being 980 nm with an output power of 0.2W in continuous mode. Results: Ten patients agreed that the low-level laser reduces the subjective feelings of the dinya and pyrosis. There were no side effects and all patients completed the treatment without interruption. In no case was there any worsening of the symptoms, while 4 patients did not report any improvement. Conclusion: According to the results of this study it can be said that low-level lasers can be used as one of the therapeutic procedures in the treatment of Glossodynia and Glossopyrosis, as well as in improving the quality of life of patients with the same or similar problems.","PeriodicalId":19556,"journal":{"name":"Oral health and dental management","volume":"63 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78692381","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
