It is a fact that the stability of any osteotomy of the mandibular branch is affected by the amount of retrusion, the fixation method, and the growth. Objective: The objective of the present study was to evaluate radiographically the variations of pharyngeal airspace, facial height, mandibular length and gonial angle in patients with Class III dento-skeletal deformity submitted to vertical osteotomy of the mandibular branch for indentation. Methods: Analysis of Teleradiographs done before and after Jaw Vertical Osteotomy of 39 patients (20 females and 19 males). In the present retrospective study, we evaluated quantitatively lateral cephalometric radiographs of patients of both genders, who needed to undergo vertical osteotomy of the mandibular branch to correct dento-skeletal deformity of the Class III type, whose purpose was to mandibular retreat. Results: There were mandibular retreatments with a decrease in mandibular length (100%) with a change in the amount of indentation in millimeters with an amplitude of 2 mm to 22 mm and linear (23.1%) or rotational movement (time: 30.8%; counterclockwise: 44%). The cases submitted to Mandibular Intraoral Vertical Osteotomy showed a reduction of the Gonial Angle in 13 cases. The parametric linear regression test revealed for all variables that there was no significant statistical difference between the SN_pre and SN_post variables; AF_pre and AF_post; CM_pre and CM_post; EA_pre and EA_post, and between AG_pre and AG_post, with p<0.05. Conclusion: After evaluating radiographically the pharyngeal airspace, facial height, mandibular length, and gonial angle, it was analyzed that there were mandibular retreatments with decreased mandibular length with a change in the amount of indentation and linear or rotational movement.","PeriodicalId":19556,"journal":{"name":"Oral health and dental management","volume":"76 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"85903200","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Background: Smear layer is an amorphous layer formed on root canal walls following instrumentation. This layer should be removed as it can harbor bacteria and bacterial products and prevents the penetration of intracanal medicaments into the dentinal tubules. Irrigation agitation techniques have been proposed recently to remove smear layer from root canals more efficiently. The diode laser has the potential for irrigant activation and studies are needed to establish their efficacy for smear layer removal especially from apical thirds of canals. Methods: Forty extracted single-rooted permanent human teeth were used. Root canals were prepared to full working length using manual K-files (MANI) till 40K. Prepared teeth were divided into four groups (n=10): Group 1, no irrigation; Group 2, QMix 2in1 solution; Group 3, diode laser; Group 4, QMix 2in1 in combination with a diode laser. The roots were split longitudinally and prepared for scanning electron microscopic (SEM) investigation. The split roots were examined for remaining smear layer at the coronal, middle, and apical portion of each canal under a scanning electron microscope (JSM5910, JEOL, Japan) at 1000x magnification. Results: Smear layer removal was scored according to Guttman rating system for remaining smear layer scores (Gutmann et al.). Diode laser in combination with QMix solution had the least smear layer scores. Conclusions: Diode laser irradiation in combination with QMix 2in1 solution effectively removes smear layer from apical thirds of root canals.","PeriodicalId":19556,"journal":{"name":"Oral health and dental management","volume":"19 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"78073017","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Here, we report a case of a giant submandibular gland sialolith in a patient presented with dysphagia as the only symptom. The sialolith measured 24 mm in length and weighed 4.7 g. A preoperative computed tomography scan revealed displacement of the hyoid bone at rest position on the non-affected side. The right submandibular gland that contained the sialolith was extirpated under general anesthesia, following which, the symptoms of dysphagia were resolved. However, no improvement in displacement was noted postoperatively. Dysphagia may have occurred due to disturbances in hyoid bone movements caused by the large sialolith. The absence of any changes in the position of the displaced bone at rest after removal of the sialolith may be attributed to the fixation of the bone in the underlying tissues due to the long-term existence of the sialolith.","PeriodicalId":19556,"journal":{"name":"Oral health and dental management","volume":"112 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"87637402","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studies were conducted from 2000 to 2018 and included studies from the period 2013 to 2018, according to the descriptors: Bacterial Endocarditis-Prevalence-Prophylaxis-Bacterial, as well as the association of the terms, searched in English, Spanish and Portuguese. A total of 189 studies were carried out to carry out the research and included 13 articles. Data were analyzed from descriptive statistics. Through information exported in these works, it can be concluded that the best way to prevent an infective endocarditis is to know the patient by means of a well-made anamnesis, where the patient's health history is well evaluated and thus to identify some risk, and antibiotic prophylaxis is recommended for all dental patients of imminent risk, as well as more invasive surgery and buccomaxillofacial procedures.","PeriodicalId":19556,"journal":{"name":"Oral health and dental management","volume":"34 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"81773819","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A number of changes in protocol for placing implants such as using a restorative-driven protocol, the performance of a risk assessment and addressing factors that could compromise esthetics such as deficiencies in bone and soft tissue using bone and soft tissue grafts to ensure adequate tissue volume are necessary for dental implant overall success in the anterior maxilla. Understanding of timing with regard to implant placement has also contributed to achieving esthetic success in the region. This article reviews modifications made in implant placement in the esthetic zone and how they can contribute to functional and esthetic success in the anterior maxilla.","PeriodicalId":19556,"journal":{"name":"Oral health and dental management","volume":"29 1","pages":""},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2019-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"76874147","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
