The covid-19 pandemic and the need to put people into lockdown, quarantine, and self-isolation at home require a reflection on the quality and capacity of home spatial to adjust to a specific function for they are not designed. The adjustment is to ensure the health and well-being of people during the pandemic and predict the future home spatial design for more human-centric. The qualitative method was conducted by viewing 50 papers and articles related to the pandemic, working from home, spatial design, residential real estate, habitability, and resilience from March 2020 to Dec 2021. The review indicates that the Covid-19 pandemic do influence the spatial design from the government enforcement of lockdown, fear of meeting people, and the “stay at home” lifestyle aspect. The pandemic increases people’s need to control their living space, safe space, and the use of home space. This review will not only be useful to safeguard people’s physical and mental health but with respect to the deficiencies and preferences of users about their homes. It can be taken as a starting point for updating the Malaysia development plans. In addition, it benefits real estate developers as a lifestyle reference on the design of healthy residential buildings in the future.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"42 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114832603","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Therefore, it is important for a mosque to have great acoustics quality as it influences the worshipper’s experience when praying or listening to Imam’s preaches. The acoustical evaluation in the mosque is rarely conducted and, in most cases, the development of good acoustic quality in the mosque is never considered at an early stage of design. In the present investigation, two large-volume mosques in Shah Alam were investigated: Section 7 Mosque (MS7) and Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Mosque (MSA). The objective of this study is to evaluate the acoustical characteristics of the mosque and its quality level. In addition, the speech intelligibility performance of each mosque was also determined using Speech Transmission Index (STI) and Rapid Transmission Index (RASTI). The experimental work found that the reverberation time of MSA has attained recommended values of reverberation time for that given size and volume while MS7 has slightly higher. The speech level attainment of both mosques is sufficient for worshippers to hear comfortably, but the background noise is high. Nevertheless, the signal-to-noise ratio (S/N ratio) indicates that both mosques have been able to obtain more than 15 dB(A) for improved speech intelligibility. The STI and RASTI prediction shows that MS7 has attained ‘fair’ and ‘bad’ ratings. In contrast, ‘poor’ and ‘bad’ ratings are achieved in the MSA.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132651375","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Limited housing supply in key areas within Klang Valley due to no interest from private developers has forced low-income people to live far from their workplaces. It is considered unprofitable by many private developers because of heavily regulated policies sanctioned by the government, decentralization of affordable housing agencies, and requiring specific design, which can drive the cost of development. Furthermore, access to home financing for low-income people is limited due to their current economic situation and financial constraints. The research focuses on the factors to facilitate private developers in financing and the possibility for the private developers to venture into a home financing structure and analyze other possibilities and solutions that can be implemented with the collaboration between the developers and government.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128443862","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, during the endemic phase, architecture studios are conducted in a hybrid manner in which the learning process for architecture design faces many challenges.This includes exposing and testing students' ability to combine knowledge from disciplines such as philosophy, art, sociocultural, management, science and technology whilst nurturing student-centred learning within a hybrid environment. This paper elucidates how student-centred learning (SCL) is emphasized and implemented in a hybrid architecture design studio during the endemic phase using Collaborative Design Pedagogy (CDP). This paper is significant as it will showcase the practical approaches and successful methods done by the UTM Architecture program in applying the CDP framework for a hybrid architecture design studio that led to the recognition by the Board of Architect Malaysia (LAM) in the year 2022 for the program to gain five years full accreditation until the year 2026. The paper outcome will be presented as a CDP framework module specifically on conducting a hybrid architecture design studio that promotes SCL as an example for other architecture schools to refer to for future lifelong architecture learning. The CDP framework is also beneficial as it highlights the flexibility to be adopted as a non-conventional architectural learning strategy that can lead to nurturing creative thinking among architecture students.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"14 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115331108","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, the buildings' existing designs and facilities are designed for their respective uses and are inefficient for disaster relief. Thus, the buildings' suitability as disaster evacuation centres is in doubt. It is therefore recommended to apply the Multidisciplinary Centre for Earthquake Engineering Research, or MCEER 4R’s Resilience Framework, to investigate the centres' resilience. It integrates four primary qualities to make a more disaster-resilient centre. These are robustness, redundancy, resourcefulness, and rapidity. The research method for the development of criteria is document analysis, which is used to collect qualitative data, which includes shelter design considerations, space provisions in a disaster evacuation centre, and resilience properties. Various official documents on disaster management, shelter guidelines, and resilience frameworks were used to compile this research. These documents attribute the current design standards used in a disaster evacuation centre and inform researchers that each design standard includes embedded resilience features. The findings of the document analysis approach will be used to understand key design issues and resilience ideas. Before identifying the essential design standards through the content validation process, this shelter guidelines. The findings will be presented in a disaster evacuation centre context, emphasising the four design domains with built-in resilience: site planning, spatial layout, existing design, and existing construction. The investigation continued with transforming the design variables into resilient design measures, synthesising the resilience ideas gathered from the shelter guidelines. A tabulation of four resilience categories was put together to see the overall resilience design pattern in disaster evacuation centres. This study aimed to develop a practical design framework that included design guidelines and resilience indicators for improving the existing design and space planning of the disaster evacuation centre buildings. As a result, the facilities can be enhanced to provide a resilient, more secure, comfortable, and practical environment for flood victims and rescuers.","PeriodicalId":194704,"journal":{"name":"Malaysian Journal of Sustainable Environment","volume":"40 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-03-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114836058","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
