After years of intensive research with significant progress and introduction in a few experiments, monolithic active pixel sensors integrating sensor matrix and readout in one piece of silicon are considered for wider application in high energy physics. Detailed requirements and implementation of CMOS sensors in high energy physics differ from those for visible light. This paper tries to give an overview.","PeriodicalId":19383,"journal":{"name":"Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136102408","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Studying the properties of the hot and dense fireballs produced in heavy ion collisions the RICH is the key component to efficiently identify electrons and positrons emitted therein. The new photon detection plane is comprised of 428 multianode photo electron multipliers (MAPMT)(Hamamatsu H12700) partly coated with p-Terphenyl as a wavelength shifter. It is operated with a gaseous C4H10 (isobutane) radiator making it essentially hadron blind for particle momenta up to approximately 2.5 GeV/c. All 27392 MAPMT channels are read out by an FPGA based readout electronic scheme called DIRICH, which will also be used in other future Cherenkov detectors. The DIRICH readout allows to measure leading and trailing edges for each pixel pulse and hence time over threshold and hit arrival time down to sub-nanosecond precision. This article will discuss the key features of the upgraded HADES RICH and its performance based on a Ag+Ag run at E=1.58A GeV incident energy within the FAIR Phase-0 research program.","PeriodicalId":19383,"journal":{"name":"Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134996362","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The proposed device can serve both for scratching the surfaces of X-ray interferometer crystalline blocks and for bending the blocks. A technology for generating dislocations in X-ray interferometer blocks has also been proposed and tested. A special device and a corresponding method are suggested for the alignment of X-ray three-block double interferometers. It has been experimentally proved that the Moire topographic patterns obtained from an X-ray double interferometer depend on the orientation of the reflecting planes relative to the studied defects (dislocations). It is shown that multiple interferometers make it possible to simultaneously observe images of various structural imperfections. The experimental results obtained make it possible to judge the spatial orientation of defects, as well as the distributions of stress fields caused by these defects, i.e., to visualize stress fields by X-ray Moire patterns. The results obtained can also form the basis for solving the inverse task, namely, the restoration of the fields of mechanical stresses in the crystalline blocks of the X-ray interferometer by decoding the Moire patterns obtained.","PeriodicalId":19383,"journal":{"name":"Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134957082","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It features a small collection electrode design on a 25 μm-thick epitaxial layer and contains 32 mini matrices of 68 hexagonal pixels each, with pixel pitches ranging from 8.66 to 20 μm. Four pixels are transmitting an analog output signal and 64 are transmitting binary hit information. Various design variations are explored, aiming at accelerating the charge collection and making the timing of the charge collection more uniform over the pixel area. Signal treatment of the analog waveforms, as well as reconstruction of digital position, time and charge information, is carried out off-chip. This contribution introduces the design of the sensor and readout system and presents performance results for various pixel designs achieved in recent test-beam measurements with external tracking and timing reference detectors. A time resolution below 150 ps is obtained at full efficiency for all pixel pitches.","PeriodicalId":19383,"journal":{"name":"Nuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment","volume":null,"pages":null},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2023-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"136102728","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
