In order to employ both reliable and efficient transmission of overhead, this paper seeks a way of quantifying the detection information with variable length to save the spectrum resource as much as possible. Analysis and simulation show the detection performance of our scheme is similar to the optimal linear combination scheme and much higher than the “OR” combination one, and even the total overhead does not increase significantly than the “OR” combination scheme.","PeriodicalId":193648,"journal":{"name":"2010 Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks and Communications","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131235833","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To this end, the proposed solution is to use the Teager-Kaiser energy operator which takes into account the non-linear model of speech. Then, a filterbank based technique splits the analysis of the wideband signal into subbands in order to increase the accuracy of the algorithms. Simulation results show that a 4 dB detection gain could be achieved by the Teager-Kaiser energy detector compared to the energy detector. The subbands decomposition leads to a further 4 dB improvement. Experimental measurements allow a realistic validation of the proposed solutions.","PeriodicalId":193648,"journal":{"name":"2010 Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks and Communications","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123108560","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The spectrum sensing locality in this technique is enhanced by using single input at the primary (PR) transmitter and multi output antenna system (SIMO) at the different CR nodes (sensors). The global decision is declared using the OR rule at the CR basestation based on hard cooperation. This technique reduces the bandwidth of the feedback channel, and for powerful spectrum sensing technique; the MTM-SVD is used. Our proposed technique is examined using software simulation and theoretical analysis. The results show that there is a significant improvement in the probability of detection compared to using MTM only, or using the periodogram with single antenna in both AWGN and Rayleigh flat fading environments. We found the number of singular value squares that are useful in the technique is equal to or smaller than 2 when the total number of generated singular values is 4, and the MTM only technique tends to offer same performance as the Local-MTM-SVD technique using single antenna in the same conditions. The choice of the decision threshold level depends on the number of singular value squares which we used in the decision statistic.","PeriodicalId":193648,"journal":{"name":"2010 Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks and Communications","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121109619","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We propose a time division multiple access protocol to exchange sensing information among neighboring sensors, that is tunable in terms of sensing cooperation range and frequency reuse distance. Our evaluation shows that short frequency reuse distance may cause significant packet loss in the sensing aggregation process. In software-defined radio, computational complexity lengthens the time for a cognitive radio to recognize changes in the transmission environment. This complexity is even more significant for spatially multiplexed receivers, e.g., in SIMO and MIMO, where the spatio-temporal data sets grow in size with the number of antennae. Limits on power and space for the processor hardware further constrain SDR performance. In this report, we discuss improvements in spatio-temporal twice whitening (STTW) for real-time local spectrum sensing by demonstrating a form of STTW well suited for MIMO environments. We implement STTW on the Coherent Logix hx3100 processor, a multicore processor intended for low-power, high-throughput software-defined signal processing. These results demonstrate how coupling the novel capabilities of emerging multicore processors with algorithmic advances can enable real-time, software-defined processing of large spatio-temporal data sets.","PeriodicalId":193648,"journal":{"name":"2010 Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks and Communications","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129273904","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A tactical radio network is composed of a transmitter which broadcasts the same information to its multiple receivers. First, we consider the problem of power minimization subject to a minimum rate constraint and a spectral mask constraint for a single tactical radio network with multiple receivers over parallel channels (parallel multicast channels). Then, we extend the iterative waterfilling algorithm to multiple receivers for the coexistence of multiple cognitive tactical radio networks, meaning that there is no cooperation between the different networks. The power allocation is performed autonomously at the transmit side assuming knowledge of the noise variances and channel variations of the network. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm is very robust in satisfying these constraints while minimizing the overall power in various scenarios.","PeriodicalId":193648,"journal":{"name":"2010 Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks and Communications","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121598856","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

On the physical layer, such topics include MIMO, cooperative communication, and error control coding, whereas research on the medium access layer includes link control, network topology, and cognitive radio. At the same time, implementations are moving from traditional fixed hardware architectures towards software, allowing more efficient development. Today, field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs) and regular desktop computers are fast enough to handle complete baseband processing chains, and there are several platforms, both open-source and commercial, providing such solutions. One of the key features of the proposed approach is that transmitters (which are assumed to be cognitive and autonomous decisionnally speaking) have a certain knowledge of the channel evolution law and want to reach a certain transmission rate target while minimizing the energy consumed by the power supply and not the one corresponding to radio-frequency signals (which is known to be important to design green wireless networks). The optimal centralized policy is derived in order to have an upper bound on the performance of the decentralized system. Then, the Nash equilibrium of the cognitive network is determined by using recent results from mean field theory (MFT). In order to evaluate the performance gap between decentralized and centralized policies we introduce and evaluate the MFT-based asymptotic price of anarchy (APoA).","PeriodicalId":193648,"journal":{"name":"2010 Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Cognitive Radio Oriented Wireless Networks and Communications","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2010-06-09","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115488216","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
