Many security dedicated devices have been developed to mitigate those DDoS attacks. Those devices always need to be improved to handle various and up-to-date schemes of DDoS attacks and exhaust of those traffics. In the mobile cloud environment, each mobile node may become a source of these attacks when it is infected with virus or worms, then the attacks are arisen in the mobile network or the edge between mobile and cloud networks. These attacks are hard to defend at a single heavy protection point, such as a firewall, like current Internet environment. A thin and wide spread protection architecture is expected. In this paper, we propose a mitigation mechanism built into the network infrastructure using OpenFlow. OpenFlow achieves centralized and flexible network management by decoupling the data plane and control plane. The behavior of packets is decided by the controller software which distinguishes them using header information from Layer 1 to Layer 4. The proposed mechanism uses TCP SYN Authentication method to mitigate TCP SYN Flood Attacks. We describe the design and implementation of the mechanism, then show the result of preliminary evaluation.","PeriodicalId":193207,"journal":{"name":"2018 6th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"48 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134575038","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In MCS, citizens actively participate in the sensing process by contributing data with their smartphones, tablets, wearables and other mobile devices to a collector. As citizens sustain costs while contributing data, i.e., the energy spent from the batteries for sensing and reporting, devising energy efficient data collection frameworks (DCFs) is essential. In this work, we compare the energy efficiency of several DCFs through CrowdSenSim, which allows to perform large-scale simulation experiments in realistic urban environments. Specifically, the DCFs under analysis differ one with each other by the data reporting mechanism implemented and the signaling between users and the collector needed for sensing and reporting decisions. Results reveal that the key criterion differentiating DCFs’ energy consumption is the data reporting mechanism. In principle, continuous reporting to the collector should be more energy consuming than probabilistic reporting. However, DCFs with continuous reporting that implement mechanisms to block sensing and data delivery after a certain amount of contribution are more effective in harvesting data from the crowd.","PeriodicalId":193207,"journal":{"name":"2018 6th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"92 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122504591","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, existing approaches have not been designed for distributed mobile-cloud apps and, thus, they are unable to provide effective solutions for such apps that have job and device dependencies, specific to their distributed nature. This paper presents CASINO, a dynamic and collaborative computation offloading framework which employs distributed profiling, decision making, and job execution to achieve an optimized completion time of the distributed computation. CASINO’s main component is its job scheduler that works in real-time and considers the global resource conditions and job/device dependencies in order to generate an optimized job schedule for a distributed app. We validated this scheduler by using simulated albeit realistic data. We also built a prototype of CASINO and evaluated it using a proof-of-concept distributed app. The results show that CASINO can significantly improve the computation latency when compared to solutions that execute all offloadable jobs on mobile devices or in the cloud.","PeriodicalId":193207,"journal":{"name":"2018 6th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130250467","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Within such a setup, a suitable mechanism addressing the resource discovery problem, taking into account fog-specific characteristics (i.e. mobility, heterogeneity, etc.) is yet to be defined. On the other hand, the proliferation of Wi- Fi has been remarkably growing with inherent support for an interesting feature set. One such feature is to embed vendorspecific information within the beacon frame in order to provide customized Wi-Fi-based informational services. In this paper, we propose F2C-Aware, a discovery approach that leverages this feature to allow devices in Wi-Fi-powered Fog-to-Cloud systems to become aware of each other. The proposed approach takes into account the fact that devices in the fog are not necessarily connected to the same local network and thus it provides discovery prior to network association, which could help in obtaining time and energy savings.","PeriodicalId":193207,"journal":{"name":"2018 6th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129917234","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The reality is that decoding videos will consume very large resources of mobile devices. However, the resources of mobile devices are limited in terms of CPU, the main memory and so on, which impedes the performance enhancement. Fortunately, the emergence of mobile media cloud makes it possible to lighten decoding load on mobile devices. Cloud computing has an outstanding performance in rendering diverse services, strong computation ability, and great storage capacity in a relatively lower cost, which provides an effective channel out for the present dilemma. In this paper, we focus on the experimental study of video fusion method for multi-view video streaming under mobile media cloud environment. Firstly, we conduct a large quantity of collection experiments and find that decoding load of videos follows the power function model, which demonstrates that video fusion of multi-view videos at cloud side may effectively reduce the CPU usage of decoding at mobile side. Secondly, we further quantify the condition when the video fusion method can reduce the CPU usage of mobile devices along with its corresponding reduction rates.","PeriodicalId":193207,"journal":{"name":"2018 6th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"274 ","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114004585","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As the most popular mobile operating system, Android is based on the Linux kernel. Therefore optimizing kernel performance can potentially accelerate Android smartphones.In this paper, we propose a compiler-based approach to constructing device-specific optimized Linux kernels for Android smartphones. By utilizing runtime feedback from the device, we can instruct the compiler to perform profile-guided optimization (PGO) and produce a Linux kernel image optimized specifically for the device, which can be shipped together with the device when it is manufactured, or released later in an update of the whole system. To the best of our knowledge, this paper is the first work that successfully applies PGO to the Linux kernel on Android smartphones to gain performance improvement.We conduct experiments on three different Android smartphones, namely Nexus 5X, Nexus 6 and Nexus 5. Results show that system performance improves by 11.1%, 4.1% and 9.3% on average, respectively. Specifically, we measure performance improvements of key Android system components such as multithreading and task scheduling, Binder, and storage and file systems.","PeriodicalId":193207,"journal":{"name":"2018 6th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114531632","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

For meeting the elevated standards of performance and versatility set by existing 5G architectural approaches, we introduce a perplexed, yet fully customizable platform, capable of supporting all prerequisites of contemporary deployments, paired with backwards compatibility of pre-existing applications and workflows through specific component integration. However, the most important contribution of the proposed architectural blueprint is that alleviates the thorny issues of rapid service instantiation demand and increased networking performance requirements, by supporting both container and virtual machine (VM) orchestration. By extending its cornerstone element, Kuryr to leverage certain Openstack networking attributes, use ManageIQ as the orchestration module for containers as well as VMs, and align to the principles of both NFV and MEC, the proposed evaluation testbed is considered a solid candidate platform for conducting real-world solution testing, without the licensing premium.","PeriodicalId":193207,"journal":{"name":"2018 6th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129530652","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Due to the limited resources of battery and computation capability on these devices, computation offloading became a relevant concept. We consider several mobile users with a splittable computation task each, which try to minimize their own computation time. All of them are connected to a central access point, where a cloudlet with limited computation power can be utilized for offloading fractions of their tasks. To account for the selfishness of the users and their individual goals, we propose a game theoretic framework resulting in a nonconvex generalized Nash game. The decision of each mobile user, which fraction of his task to offload, depends on the offloading decisions of the others, since they share the communication resources and computation capabilities of the cloudlet. We prove the existence and uniqueness of the generalized Nash equilibrium and propose an algorithm for computing it efficiently. In addition, we show that the price of anarchy of our model is one, which is the best possible value, and investigate the advantage of computation offloading numerically. Furthermore, we extend our model to a scenario, where mobile users are able to offload parts of their computation in repeated sessions during a given time period. This allows every mobile user to offload multiple successive tasks.","PeriodicalId":193207,"journal":{"name":"2018 6th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134635699","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A relevant research direction in this field aims at optimizing the offloading decisions of mobile applications based on different metrics, such as performance and energy consumption, and according to the dynamic environment conditions in which the application is located. In this paper we define and implement two parallel algorithms for supporting offloading decisions at runtime. They are based on the well-known Depth First Search and Dijkstra shortest path algorithms, properly customized for the mobile cloud domain. Considering the mobile characteristics and the application requirements, the algorithms permit to optimize the effectiveness of mobile applications providing an optimal offloading strategy to be followed during the application execution. The proposed algorithms are experimentally validated by comparing their performance and scalability, also with respect to a previously defined approach based on model checking. The comparison is supported by a simulator tool we developed on purpose to assess the potentiality of the algorithms at runtime. The achieved results prove the applicability of the approach into practice, which is also witnessed by a case study focusing on a mobile cloud application for public security.","PeriodicalId":193207,"journal":{"name":"2018 6th IEEE International Conference on Mobile Cloud Computing, Services, and Engineering (MobileCloud)","volume":"18 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-03-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125138604","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
