However, the technique is not very robust since several parameters that determine the scope of the detection results, such as quantization thresholds and intervals, must first be defined. In the present paper, we propose to enhance shape detection with the Hough transform through fuzzy analysis. One chief drawback of the Hough transform, i.e. the uncertainty/precision duality, is thus reduced.","PeriodicalId":192947,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing","volume":"319 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116366403","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Given the locations of noisy pixels and a prototype image, the noisy pixels are to be restored in a natural way. Most existing image noise removal algorithms use either frequency domain information (e.g. low pass filtering) or spatial domain information (e.g median filtering or stochastic texture generation). However, for good noise removal, both spatial and frequency information must be used. The existing algorithms that do combine the two domains (e.g. Gerchberg-Papoulis and related algorithms) place the limitation that the image be band-limited and the band limits be known. Also, some of these may not work well when the noisy pixels are contiguous and numerous. Our algorithm combines the spatial and frequency domain information by using projection onto convex sets (POCS). But unlike previous methods it does not need to know image band limits and does not require the image to be band-limited. Results given here show noise removal from images with texture and prominent lines. The detailed textures as well as the pixels representing prominent lines are created by our algorithm for the noise pixels. The algorithm is fast, the cost being a few iterations (usually under 10), each requiring an FFT, IFFT and copying of a small neighborhood of the noise.","PeriodicalId":192947,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116378900","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Using three layers of ring shaped LEDs with different illumination angles, three frames of images are sequentially obtained. From these images the regions of interest (soldered regions) are segmented, and their characteristic features including the average gray level and the number of highlights-referred to as 2D features-are extracted. Based on the minimum distance classification rule, each solder joint is classified into one of the pre-defined types. If the classification is ambiguous, the distribution of tilt angles-referred to as 3D features-is calculated, which requires more computation while providing more information and better performance. The proposed inspection system has been implemented and tested with various types of solder joints in SMDs. The experimental results have verified the validity of this scheme in terms of speed and recognition rate.","PeriodicalId":192947,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing","volume":"62 5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123232694","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

However, most video coding schemes utilize some form of variable length data structure in order to achieve high coding efficiency, and this can result in large drops in transmission quality in mobile channels due to loss of data structure synchronization or variable length code synchronization. We propose priority-based re-ordering technology for error control and tough synchronization (PROTECTS). This scheme offers good synchronization characteristics, and an efficient unequal error protection technique for variable length codes. The outline of the PROTECTS and some simulation results are presented in this paper.","PeriodicalId":192947,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121892707","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Since the Fresnel transform depends upon the distance parameter between the model and the Fresnel-transformed planes, the morphing process from one model to another is observed by changing the distance parameter. The morphing experiment was conducted using 2-D models, such as letters and simple figures by performing Fresnel transforms with 32/spl times/32 sampling points. Discussion is done by comparing the proposed morphing technique with a morphing technique using Fourier transform, where model spectra are superposed in the spectrum plane using a weighting factor to blend the spectra of both models proportional to the weighting factor, whereas phase functions are multiplied on the Fourier transforms of models in the Fresnel transform method.","PeriodicalId":192947,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing","volume":"33 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117084180","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We present a new technique for reducing the computational complexity. It is lossless, i.e., it does not sacrifice any image quality for the sake of the speedup. It is based on a codebook coherence characteristic to fractal image compression and leads to a novel application of the fast Fourier transform-based convolution. The method provides a new conceptual view of fractal image compression. This paper focuses on the implementation issues and presents the first empirical experiments analyzing the performance benefits of the convolution approach to fractal image compression depending on image size, range size, and codebook size. The results show acceleration factors for large ranges up to 23 (larger factors possible), outperforming all other currently known lossless acceleration methods for such range sizes.","PeriodicalId":192947,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing","volume":"61 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125884551","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Imag., vol.13, p.186-95, 1994) , and also Kudo and Saito (see IEEE Trans. Med. Imag., vol.13, p.196-211, 1994), have derived an exact algorithm suited to accurately reconstruct cone-beam data acquired from any complete orbit. These algorithms are written in the form of a shift-variant filtered backprojection. Their main characteristic is their capability to handle in many different ways the redundancy inherent to cone-beam data sets. We investigate the interplay between the redundancy handling and the stability and efficiency of the algorithm. Specifically, we show how to handle the redundancy to turn shift-variant filtering of some projections into shift-invariant filtering. Invoking this result, we define then a new algorithm suited to accurately and efficiently reconstruct data acquired from circle-plus-lines orbits. The new algorithm is tested on simulated data and real data from industrial imaging of waste containers.","PeriodicalId":192947,"journal":{"name":"Proceedings of 3rd IEEE International Conference on Image Processing","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"1996-09-16","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126146722","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
