However, the quality of cellular networks data transfer service is too low to be used in critical data transfer in remote control applications. Two independent cellular data transfer services are used to overcome this problem in our implementation. The solution may improve network throughput and/or availability and provides fail-safe operation depending on the selected congestion control scheduler. The solution is implemented in Linux and can be used for different kinds of data transfer via TCP protocol, both for static or moving remote control equipment.","PeriodicalId":192943,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 59th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130731815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A reliability oriented network restructuring (RNR) mathematical formulation is proposed for solving power grid expansion decision with non-linear AC-OPF. The microgrid structures are derived from the standard IEEE 14 bus system architecture. The proposed reliability framework is implemented with the set of reliability indicators for measuring the system performance. The model was solved using outer approximation algorithm. The analysis is conducted to investigate the importance of restructuring in an investment decision for the expansion. The results with a comparison between investment and investment with restructuring are outlined. Consequently the expansion considering the restructuring is found to be practical and feasible.","PeriodicalId":192943,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 59th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133726272","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A simplified helicopter model is introduced as an example. A controller design stabilizing the simplified helicopter around the yaw-axis is presented. It is used in a flipped classroom concept, that allows students to gain hands-on experience in the field of control engineering. Moreover, a helicopter test-bench for the simplified helicopter is described, that uses a Raspberry Pi as a Matlab Simulink target. The test-bench can be used in classrooms to test the above mentioned controller design. From a education point of view, first experiences with the students show that the test-bench is well accepted and arouses curiosity about the underlying technical problems.","PeriodicalId":192943,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 59th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"65 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"134115962","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This article analyses the situation and rules for connecting small-scale distributed generation to the power system in Latvia. We compare several cases, taking into account the existing situation in Latvia. The basis for the developed proposal to improve the considered rules lies in the transition to billing based on the cost of energy produced or consumed instead of billing based on its amount.","PeriodicalId":192943,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 59th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"127845212","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This paper presents the algorithm of searching for the single-type load schedules based on data mining methods. Averaged half-hour schedules of active and reactive power consumption were used as initial data. The proposed algorithm is primarily aimed at preliminary processing and grouping of the measurements when solving the task of identifying static voltage characteristics of load and also allows carrying out researches in the field of searching for single-type load curves to perform design and long-term calculations. The result of data processing is an array of labels for the daily schedule membership in a particular group. The proposed algorithm is based on the k-means method. The algorithm is tested on the real data collected from the substation feeding the assembly plant. In case the initial data is the sample of load schedules for several years, it is possible to set the task of forecasting the configuration of the load schedule. The initial data to solve this task will be a time ordered array of labels for the daily load schedule membership in a particular type.","PeriodicalId":192943,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 59th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130142540","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, tw o strategies have been used for the peak load shaving. First, demand side management (DSM) in order to peak power demand minimization by duty cycle coordination between STS cranes based on PSO algorithm and in the second part utilization of Flywheel Energy Storage System (FESS) to make a power balance between generation and demand side. Results in MATLAB related to reference data shows the proposed method can reduce the peak power demand in the STS group cranes and provide a proper power balance between generation and demand.","PeriodicalId":192943,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 59th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"11 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133478437","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Per unit cost is a function of substation cost and of fed zone grid indexes: length of the power lines and the amount of their material, losses of energy and of voltages which, in turn, are functions of the fed zone size. The indexes are different for various fed zone shapes. When outlines of a fed zone are not defined topographically, the most profitable shape of the zone is hexagon. However, the square or some other fed zone shape sometimes can be more acceptable due to the location of consumers. These indexes are defined in the paper. Besides, it turns out that, when minimizing the per unit cost of electricity delivery, a binomial of a fed zone main size is insufficient to represent the said per unit cost; it is shown here that a trinomial or even four-term polynomial is necessary to represent the per unit cost of electricity delivery.","PeriodicalId":192943,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 59th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115842446","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

To determine optimum parameters of the training sample a series of calculations by means of XGBoost algorithm performed in Python 3 has been carried out. As a result, requirements to size, entropy and informational content of the training sample parameters have been developed. Two oil U- 110-2000 breakers installed on a real 500/220/110 kV substation have been chosen as a calculation example. Requirements to the training sample for a problem of recognition of circuit breakers states patterns have been confirmed. The offered criteria can be used for training of machine learning model as a part of the automated system circuit breakers technical state assessment. Similar system will allow optimizing schedules of power equipment repairs.","PeriodicalId":192943,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 59th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129098734","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

According to this the nearly zero-energy building (NZEB) with local renewable power sources will play important role to reduce greenhouse gases. Local and intermittent renewable power generation is challenge for power quality and supply reliability of NZEB. It means higher demand for an Energy Management System (EMS) to provide power quality and balance between load and generation. This paper gives a brief overview of EMS for residential buildings. To test an EMS, the behavior of NZEB must be simulated in the laboratory. For this purpose, an experimental system was developed which includes variable load and its control as a part of EMS. Two load simulation methods for load management were studied and experimentally verified.","PeriodicalId":192943,"journal":{"name":"2018 IEEE 59th International Scientific Conference on Power and Electrical Engineering of Riga Technical University (RTUCON)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129162853","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
