These challenges are because of the need for real-time communications in an industrial environment with high electromagnetic interferences. To meet these challenges, in the context of real-time industrial device communications, Controller Area Network (CAN) protocol is commonly employed, which is noise resistance, nevertheless, the presence of a faulty node in CAN networks can lead to deadline violation of messages and timing failure. In this paper, to control the behavior of nodes, message retransmission is performed based on the criticality of message reception (MRMC-CAN). The proposed method in comparison with standard CAN and WCTER-based approaches reduces consumed bandwidth by an average of 10.5% and 4.4%, respectively. Moreover, the proposed technique improves response time in comparison with standard CAN by an average of 36.19%.","PeriodicalId":192646,"journal":{"name":"2021 5th International Conference on Internet of Things and Applications (IoT)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129020385","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The impact of interference on a LoRa network resulted from simultaneous transmissions using the same spreading factors (co-SF) as well as different SFs (inter-SF) interference. The interference field has been modeled as the Poisson point process. The proposed method considers the Success Probabilities and device Density (SPD) in each area in defining boundaries of SF regions. Simulation results have shown that in the proposed SPD method, network performance under co-SF and inter-SF interference in terms of success probability has improved 12.69% over compared SIR-based EIB method. Also, the coverage probability of the SPD and EIB methods is compared, and it was concluded that the coverage probability of EIB drops more than SPD as the number of end devices increases.","PeriodicalId":192646,"journal":{"name":"2021 5th International Conference on Internet of Things and Applications (IoT)","volume":"3 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133383123","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

From technologies used on a daily basis to the latest and most advanced all require electrical power. Thus, there is a necessity for managing this power distribution in an optimal way. To meet demands for electrical power, a reliable framework to monitor and analyze the grid behavior is required. The purpose of this paper was to present a framework architecture, its implementation, and evaluate its performance over a real-life dataset. This framework utilized the latest technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, fog and cloud computing to decrease network traffic, increase data analysis speed and illustrate real-time data analysis on a web-based dashboard on the current state of the power grid. These features give administrators the ability to control the grid in a crisis situation and clients to consume electric power more efficiently.","PeriodicalId":192646,"journal":{"name":"2021 5th International Conference on Internet of Things and Applications (IoT)","volume":"24 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125909501","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Millions of devices generate and transmit vast amounts of data. Exploring this data without compromising privacy practices may expose to risk of users’ identities. One of the measures used to protect data privacy is anonymity methods. IoT data anonymization is not possible using traditional methods because such data, unlike database data, are not static and are very large. In this paper, we propose a new framework that can anonymize the received stream data by considering their expiration time. This anonymization is performed using a new clustering method using a streaming data processing engine. The introduced clustering method has a significant effect on reducing data delay. It supports both numerical and categorical data types too. Also, merging remaining clusters at the end of the method has minimized information loss. Comparing the performance results of the introduced method with similar methods shows that the proposed method performs better in terms of information loss and data delay.","PeriodicalId":192646,"journal":{"name":"2021 5th International Conference on Internet of Things and Applications (IoT)","volume":"26 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128515102","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this research, a Clone ID detection system is designed for the Internet of Things (IoT), implemented in Contiki operating system, and evaluated using the Cooja emulator. Our evaluation shows that the proposed method has desirable performance in terms of energy consumption overhead, true positive rate, and detection speed. The overhead cost of the proposed method is low enough that it can be deployed in limited-resource nodes. The proposed method in each node has two phases, which are the steps of gathering information and attack detection. In the proposed scheme, each node detects this type of attack using control packets received from its neighbors and their information such as IP, rank, Path ETX, and RSSI, as well as the use of a routing table. The design of this system will contribute to the security of the IoT network.","PeriodicalId":192646,"journal":{"name":"2021 5th International Conference on Internet of Things and Applications (IoT)","volume":"19 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116656584","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The threat of closure of educational institutions turned it into a golden opportunity to use the Internet of Things to learn and progress. This paper aims to compare traditional education and IoT-based education in learning and student participation in the classroom. A questionnaire was prepared and distributed among students participating in both educational systems to conduct this descriptive study. The data extracted from 400 returned questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive and analytical statistical methods using SPSS and MATLAB software. The paper results showed that the scores obtained by students in IoT-based tests were higher than traditional tests. The percentage of students’ attendance and participation in the classroom in the IoT-based education system showed a considerable increase. The midterm exam scores, homework scores, online and quizzes, the final exam for the IoT-based and traditional education system was 2.39 ± 0.51, 2.02 ± 0.78, 2.50± 0.44, 5.20 ± 1.86 and 1.69 ± 0.83, 1.18 ± 1.05, 1.55±0.63, 3.70 ± 2.26 respectively. Statistical analysis of the results showed a significant difference in the scores of students who participated in the IoT-based educational system from students who traditionally participated in classes (P <0.05). Given the brilliant results of using IoT-based education and also some of the advantages of traditional education, it can be concluded that the combination of the two education systems can cover the weaknesses of IoT-based and traditional education methods, and students can benefit from IoT-based and traditional training at the same time.","PeriodicalId":192646,"journal":{"name":"2021 5th International Conference on Internet of Things and Applications (IoT)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132975626","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper, a novel optimization model for the operation of smart grids is proposed. It is introduced as a multi-objective optimization problem considering two main goals, including the minimization of operation costs and the maximization of the power quality under a day-ahead market perspective. To reach these goals, reducing power losses in transmission lines, and minimizing the cost of the energy transmitted from the upstream network as well as voltage deviation are considered as objectives function of the proposed model. These two conflicting objective functions are then summed up through the Weighted Sum Method (WSM) to create a single objective function to reduce the operational cost and increase the power quality in the Smart Grid simultaneously. Moreover, renewable energy resources such as wind turbines and photovoltaic arrays, and demand response programming are raised in the model. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed model, it has been tested on IEEE 33 bus system by using GAMS software. The simulation results show the benefits and efficiency of the proposed model.","PeriodicalId":192646,"journal":{"name":"2021 5th International Conference on Internet of Things and Applications (IoT)","volume":"9 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"117088034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this study is to implement an IoT system that can sense the heart signal and detect the arrhythmia in a heartbeat by using smart signal processing and send them through the internet to a relative of the patient or doctor. In this system, Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals are received by electrodes and sent to the AD8232 chip. Then, by connecting to the ESP32 module, information through the Wi-Fi network and Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol, is sent to the broker created on Raspberry Pi. Then, using Python and through the Decision Tree algorithm, the heartbeat’s performance is evaluated as a smart process. The accuracy of the algorithm in detecting arrhythmias is over 95%. Finally, with an android application and through the TCP/IP protocol, the health or arrhythmia of the heartbeat will be informed on the doctor’s or one of the patient’s relative’s cell phone, and its real-time display will be provided. Also, the possibility of sending a command from a mobile to the broker has been provided.","PeriodicalId":192646,"journal":{"name":"2021 5th International Conference on Internet of Things and Applications (IoT)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128589355","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

One of the major challenges in the IoT is to detect and prevent intruders into the network and devices, a challenge that traditional solutions of Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) are not responsive for it or at least not very efficient to use in IoT. In this article, we address the problem of using machine learning methods for anomaly detection and two methods for feature extraction and classification are proposed. The first method is feature extraction and classification using Logistic Regression (LR) and the second method is to use an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) for classification. To evaluate the performance of the proposed method, the N_BaIoT dataset, which consists of data samples related to nine devices IoT and several attacks is used according to a number of criteria for evaluating the performance of the proposed methods. Simulation results in comparison with other four deep learning methods in terms of F1-score and precision show that using logistic regression, is more efficient and the highest classification accuracy (equivalent to 99.98%) can be achieved.","PeriodicalId":192646,"journal":{"name":"2021 5th International Conference on Internet of Things and Applications (IoT)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133720076","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

After each earthquake, the environmental conditions change and various information is required to carry out the rescue operation. A major part of this information cannot be obtained from the knowledge that had already existed about the disaster area. However, the disaster management organizations as well as rescue teams need comprehensive information in the shortest possible time to be able to operate. Given the progress of Internet of Things and ubiquity of smartphones, it is possible to obtain this comprehensive information in the shortest time through crowd sourcing. In this article, the requirement analysis of the earthquake information gathering system has been performed. The requirements are generally classified into 4 groups including victims, facilities and livelihood, security and health, and maps. Afterwards, a layered architecture is designed for the earthquake information gathering system, which includes 4 layers including sensing, fog, cloud and application. The scenario-based approach validates that the proposed architecture satisfies the identified requirements. Finally, as selfish users could corrupt the whole information of crowd sourcing systems, a simulation reveals that the system is able to detect and eliminate these users.","PeriodicalId":192646,"journal":{"name":"2021 5th International Conference on Internet of Things and Applications (IoT)","volume":"474 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-05-19","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114350566","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
