In GMAW, weld bead shape affects a number of welding parameters including; welding current, voltage, speed and weaving length. To detect weld bead shape, we select proper welding parameters. We have difficulty analyzing the relationship between weld bead shape and welding parameters due to non-linearity of the welding process. In the case of an arc sensor, though it has a signal processing problem, it is still a widely-used method in industry because it is low cost and easily automated. Proper welding parameters were selected and a weld bead shape detecting system was proposed, using neural networks which were able to identify the relation between weld bead shape and the welding parameters. Also, in the neural controller, the time delay neural network (TDNN) was used in this proposed neural network, due to non-linearity of the welding process. Besides, in welding quality testing, it is important to analyze the weld bead shape. Proper welding parameters and fifteen points that represent weld bead shape were selected, and a real-time monitoring system of weld bead shape was proposed to find the effects of various welding parameters and estimate weld quality using neural networks.","PeriodicalId":192359,"journal":{"name":"1999 Third International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information Engineering Systems. They are NP-completeness problems, which usually lead to satisfactory but sub-optimal solutions. This paper investigates and compares Genetic Algorithm and Tabu Search approaches to solve these kinds of problem. The experiment shows that TS approach can produce better timetables than those of GA approach can. Further, the search time spent in TS is less than that of GA. However, GA can produce several different near optimal solutions simultaneously.","PeriodicalId":192359,"journal":{"name":"1999 Third International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information Engineering Systems. This tool exploits dimensionality reducing mappings and advanced interactive visualisation techniques for navigation and visual exploratory data analysis in acoustic databases. In addition to database projection and display, complementing interactive access to individual sounds and the respective comparison facility is provided. Thus, the analysis of key features for certain acoustical impressions, e.g. richness or pleasance of a sound, can be efficiently identified and consequently used in sound engineering. Further, the available and proven design methods and tools for sound engineering are complemented by interactive facilities in the acoustic navigator. This paper reports on significant novel features and enhancements added to the acoustic navigator, e.g. for interactive sound synthesis and optimisation, which make the tool an attractive candidate as a more general visual data analysis platform, e.g. in medical database analysis.","PeriodicalId":192359,"journal":{"name":"1999 Third International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information Engineering Systems. NOEGM consists of three main modules, namely: (1) a feature extraction module using a Gabor filter; (2) a character segmentation module using a neural oscillatory model; and (3) a character recognition module using an elastic graph dynamic link model (EGDLM). In order to optimize the network's performance, a genetic algorithm optimization scheme is integrated into the proposed model. In our research, we applied a sample set of 3,000 handwritten Chinese characters and a test set of 1,000 scanned handwritten Chinese documents to a series of invariant tests, including translation, rotation, dilation and distortion. Experimental results reveal that the overall performance of NOEGM has achieved an average correct recognition rate of over 90%.","PeriodicalId":192359,"journal":{"name":"1999 Third International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information Engineering Systems. The main attraction of the fuzzy compensator is that it generates proper position compensation as feedforward command so that overshoots and oscillations in the direction of force control can be suppressed satisfactorily. Profiling control simulations using the dynamics of the PUMA560 manipulator are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness and promise of the fuzzy compensator under the environment having unknown dynamic characteristics.","PeriodicalId":192359,"journal":{"name":"1999 Third International Conference on Knowledge-Based Intelligent Information Engineering Systems.
