Instead of the 3-D equation for the velocity potential, the 2-D Poisson equation on a surface is used. This equation contains both the first and second vertical derivatives of the potential. It is suggested that the equations be closed by introducing the connection between these derivatives. Finally, the model for 3-D waves includes only surface equations, which dramatically simplifies the modeling as well as provides a substantial acceleration of the calculations and reduces a volume of the memory used. The examples of integration of the equation over long periods, taking into account the input energy and dissipation, proved that such a simplified approach gives quite realistic results. It is typical that a new model runs faster by around two orders than the 3-D model","PeriodicalId":192292,"journal":{"name":"Examines in Marine Biology & Oceanography","volume":"89 4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-02-26","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116616034","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

They are so named because the level of these seas was significantly higher than the level of the World Ocean. These seas were formed during the melting of glaciers from fresh water and this water, getting through the straits into the Mediterranean Sea, caused a significant freshening of Mediterranean waters. Studies have shown that the formation of transgressive seas is associated with a number of global hydrological and geological processes: climate change, the formation of continental glaciers in the form of ice mountains, the formation of the Bosphorus, Dardanelles, Manych straits, changes in the salinity of water bodies, migration of fish, animals and primitive people, and the other processes on the globe. Thus, the study of the hydrology of seas, which no exist for a long time, showed the need to study processes with a completely different mechanism. For example, it is highly likely that the formation of the deep-sea basin of the Black Sea is associated with the Messinian salinity crisis in the Mediterranean [1-4].","PeriodicalId":192292,"journal":{"name":"Examines in Marine Biology & Oceanography","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-01-28","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121148733","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Fish including Carite ( Scomberomorus brasiliensis ) are sold daily on the highways by “highway fishmongers”. To prevent deterioration, the fish may be sprinkled with a citrus-based juice or salt (NaCl) or kept chilled (10 °C). Although this strategy reduces bacterial growth on the outer regions (skin) of the fish, it is not clear whether this treatment also attenuates bacterial growth and proliferation in the muscles of the fish. This paper seeks to investigate the microbiological loads within the fillet fish muscle tissues and the frozen packages of the muscles of fish sold at supermarkets (single and chain operators). All assays show a constant value of the total aerobic bacteria throughout the specific purchased (single operators and chain supermarkets; and highway fishmongers) and different controlled storage conditions (-15 °C, 1 °C; and 29 °C). A one-way ANOVA test (α= 0.05) indicates no significant difference among the tissue of fish purchased from the four different locations, with a marked effect at the different storage temperatures. The mean Total Bacterial Count increased eight times when the storage temperature increased from -15° to 29 °C and four times when the storage temperature increased from 1° to 29 °C.","PeriodicalId":192292,"journal":{"name":"Examines in Marine Biology & Oceanography","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-08-12","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132920090","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It follows that a considerable proportion of the white shark’s brain would be dedicated to processing visual stimuli to enable efficient hunting [4]. As with other shark species, the eyes of white sharks are positioned laterally, meaning that only one eye at a time can observe an object positioned alongside their bodies, and only when the object is between the overlapping fields of vision could both eyes focus on the same object. So, what potential advantages could white sharks acquire if they were able to move both eyes independently, and so observe two objects on both sides of their heads simultaneously?","PeriodicalId":192292,"journal":{"name":"Examines in Marine Biology & Oceanography","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126702360","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

As abundance has increased in the coastal waters of Massachusetts, valuable commercial and recreational fisheries have developed. Relatively little is known about the habitat requirements for black sea bass at different life stages in Massachusetts waters. Identification and conservation of critical habitats is an essential component of sustainable fisheries management. In this study we conducted underwater video transects in Buzzards Bay, MA to better understand the habitats used by young-of-the-year black sea bass. We specifically focused on a comparison between Crepidula fornicata shell reefs and sandy/sponge habitats. Our results suggest that juvenile, young-of-the-year black sea bass are present in statistically significant higher densities on the Crepidula fornicata shell reefs than in the sandy bottom habitat. This sampling identified an average of eight times more fish on the shell reef habitat, implicating the shell reefs as a potential nursery habitat in Massachusetts waters. Crepidula reefs should be considered for designation as Special, Sensitive or Unique resource in the Massachusetts Ocean Management Plan.","PeriodicalId":192292,"journal":{"name":"Examines in Marine Biology & Oceanography","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-07-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130313919","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
