The criteria to evaluate the performance of 3PL have been identified through literature review and in consultation with practitioners. The weightage to criteria and the performance evaluation of 3PL are based on the information gathered by the performance measurement team (PMT). A fuzzy logic is used to incorporate the perception of PMT members. The uniqueness of the method is to incorporate the views of multiple decision makers so that biasness in decision can be minimised. This is the process that can be used by a company to evaluate his own performance with more accuracy. The managements of 3PL companies can use this methodology to evaluate their performance with high accuracy. Application of proposed methodology incorporating the team approach to evaluate the performance of 3PL is the originality of this paper.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Adv. Oper. Studies investigating the associations between transformational leadership and manufacturing strategy are rarely documented in the operations management literature. In this direction, the purpose of this study is to investigate at what extent transformational leadership behaviours explain the implementation of manufacturing strategy with the help of data collected from 172 Indian manufacturing companies. Results of exploratory factor analysis showed that these companies implement manufacturing strategy in the forms of flexibility, quality and cost strategy. Results of hierarchical regression analyses proved that certain transformational leadership components have positive associations with flexibility, quality and cost strategy. Implications for theory and practice are also offered.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Adv. Oper. When a certain part of a country is affected by a natural disaster, the proper emergency responses including first aid, fuel and other necessary materials should be safely transported to the related area on time. Risk is mainly obtained through accident data, but due to lack of data, particularly in the developing countries, risk assessment is getting to be more complicated. In this study a network risk assessment methodology has been developed in which the extent analysis method is utilised to convert the linguistic variables of risk components including accident, population, environment and infrastructure network to crisp values. Based on the proposed methodology, a tradeoff between travel time and transport risk has also been considered to enhance transport safety. Using three methods of path-finding for validation shows that different alternatives or paths can be available for long-term trips whereas the results revealed that the safest path is independent on path-finding approaches, so decision makers would be able to make more reliable decisions on HRP.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. This study fills a gap in the existing literature by exploring the relationship between the positioning of actors and the value creation in a context of interorganisational networks. The case study method was employed and the data was obtained from four companies of an interorganisational network, located in Brazil, which produces earthmoving equipments. The central actor in this network is benefited through access to resources, power and information of the other network actors. The centrality position seems to help this company in the absorption and diffusion of knowledge among the other network actors. The research indicates, that a dense core (through strong ties) and redundancy (for triangulation and knowledge absorption), benefited the following value creation elements: tangible; intangible; services and economic.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. In a transportation model, the available discount is normally offered on items/criteria, etc., in the form of all unit discount (AUD) or incremental quantity discount (IQD) or combination of these two. Here, transportation model is considered with fixed charges and vehicle costs where AUD, IQD or combination of AUD and IQD on the price depending upon the amount is offered and varies on the choice of origin, destination and conveyance. To solve the problem, multi objective genetic algorithm (MOGA) based on Roulette wheel selection, arithmetic crossover and uniform mutation has been suitably developed and applied. To illustrate the models, numerical examples have been presented. Here, two types of problems are introduced and the corresponding results are obtained. To provide better customer service, the entropy function is considered.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Adv. Oper. However, most VRP-related academic articles assume the existence of a homogeneous fleet of vehicles and/or a symmetric cost matrix. These assumptions are not always reasonable in real-life scenarios. To contribute in closing this gap between theory and practice, we propose a hybrid methodology for solving the asymmetric and heterogeneous vehicle routing problem (AHVRP). In our approach, we consider: 1) different types of vehicle loading capacities (heterogeneous fleets); 2) asymmetric distance-based costs. The proposed approach combines a randomised version of a well-known savings heuristic with several local searches specifically adapted to deal with the asymmetric nature of costs. A computational experiment allows us to discuss the efficiency of our approach and also to analyse how routing costs vary when slight departures from the homogeneous fleet assumption are considered.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. The meta-heuristic recreates the different processes that make a bacterium to be as close as possible to a light source, considered as the objective to reach. The problem is associated with two objectives: the minimisation of the number of vehicle and the total travelled distance. The proposed meta-heuristic was tested on instances from literature with sizes of up to 100 nodes (clients). Results show that the proposed algorithm gives good quality solutions in regard of both objective functions.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Adv. Oper. The amount of emitted pollutants by a vehicle depends on the amount of fuel consumed and the type of fuel utilised. Moreover, the fuel consumption level is dependent on distance, load, speed, road gradient, driving pattern and many more factors. This paper extends vehicle routing problem (VRP) literature by developing a new variant as a green routing problem (GRP) which deals with optimising CO2 emissions and costs from a bi-fuel vehicle fleet, which runs on both the main fuel and the cleaner alternative fuel. The modelling approach deals with not only the fuel consumption level, but also with the optimised utilisation of the alternative fuel of the vehicle. To analyse environmental and economic performance of the GRP, two extensions as P-GRP and CB-GRP were developed and implemented in an Iranian case study, with a bi-fuel (gasoline/CNG) fleet. Results of the case study and computational experiments suggest a possible reduction in CO2 emissions by up to 27.38% and in costs by up to 18.76%, when compared with CVRP with a simple distance minimisation objective, using the conventional gasoline as the fuel.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. This problem is usually solved using algorithms that are based on dynamic programming and nested Benders decomposition (NBD). The hydrothermal planning problem is remodelled as a capacitated production planning model with convex costs; then a vanishing effect property of the first period decision is derived. Based on this property, a special implementation scheme of the NBD algorithm is proposed, providing faster convergence and less computational effort. The NBD algorithm is implemented for a large-scale hydrothermal power system of the Pacific Northwest in the USA with 20 thermal plants and 21 thermal plants.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. The realistic EOQ model can bring a significant change while evaluating the profit and loss of any organisation. In this paper a mathematical model has been developed for obtaining the EOQ in which the demand of the product is assumed to follow an innovative imitative behaviour as proposed by Bass (1969). The theory of innovation-diffusion has been incorporated in this model. To make the model more realistic an attempt has been made to solve the model in light of fuzzy set theory under the trapezoidal membership function. The coefficient of innovation, the coefficient of imitation and the inventory carrying cost is assumed to be fuzzy numbers with trapezoidal membership function. By the median rule of defuzzification, total cost formula has been derived in the fuzzy sense in order to obtain the optimal order quantity. The effectiveness of this model is illustrated with a numerical example and sensitivity analysis of the optimal solution with respect to different parameters of the system is performed.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int.
