It proposes modelling the quality variables and outlining how these variables influence quality in context with a typical supply chain. Interpretive structural modelling (ISM) is used in this study to derive the interrelationship among the influential variables to improve the quality in supply chain. It is found that out of 14 selected variables the top management commitment, employee training and involvement, best practices, market sensitiveness and supply chain coordination are the key variables which greatly affect the return on investment and brand value of an organisation. The above model gives important guidelines to the supply chain managers to tackle these variables on priority basis for effective supply chain quality management. The results can give good learning insight for practitioners about driving and dependence power of variables in supply chain quality.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Adv. Oper. To coordinate, we apply revenue sharing contracts in the context of supply chain disruptions management. Herein, we consider disruptions at two factors namely demand and service sensitivity coefficient and propose a responsive pricing, service level, production and contract decisions model. Our results reveal that the proposed coordination mechanisms could lead to the supply chain system of interest achieving around 80% to 90% efficiency while satisfying win-win positions of the partners. In addition, this work illustrates that the coordinated supply chain produces more profit to the retailer. Our findings also indicate the original contracts for the non-disrupted supply chain system show some level of robustness to the scenarios that show a small increase of the market scale and service sensitivity coefficient. More specifically, the original contracts work fine as long as the increment of markets scale is less than 30% of the market base. However, for most of the cases, the production, pricing, service strategies, and contracts policies need to be adjusted to tackle the disruptions. We show the usefulness of our work by providing some numerical examples.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Adv. Oper. Meta-heuristics are heuristic methods that help the search through the solution space using algorithms. Meta-heuristics further improve the solution that comes initially from heuristics. This paper presents various types of meta-heuristics approaches for optimising flowshop scheduling (FSS) with focus on minimising parameters like total tardiness, total earliness, maximum makespan, total no. of tardy jobs, etc. Since the problem is NP-hard, the meta-heuristics and hybrid meta-heuristics are most appropriate methods to solve this kind of problem. Meta-heuristics are projected as strategic means to achieve the optimum and efficient schedule, with positive impact on cost minimisation (economies of scale) and simultaneously reducing solution time.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. VMI has been extensively studied over a short period of time since it was successfully implemented in the industry in the late 1980s. In this paper, we classify and review theoretical and empirical studies on VMI. In particular, we provide three classifications of theoretical papers focusing on the contractual agreement between supply chain partners, drivers of the benefits of VMI, and research approaches, while we classify empirical papers based on their research purposes and methodologies. One of our findings is that most theoretical studies examine event-based VMI contracts such as (z, Z)-type contracts, while the penalties/rewards are based on long-term performance in many VMI agreements observed in practice. We also find that most theoretical studies focus on cost reductions from VMI and their drivers, while empirical studies report various benefits of VMI such as lower inventory and fewer stockouts. We suggest several future research directions based on our literature review.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Adv. Oper. A self-administered questionnaire consisting of 37 statements was developed. The study targeted ERP users at one pharmaceutical company in Jordan. Of the 155 questionnaires circulated, 105 produced valid data for further analysis. ERP does not have significant impact on either intra- or inter-organisational collaboration, while e-business technologies do. ERP and e-business technologies integration has significant impact on both types of collaboration. Both intra- and inter-organisational collaboration have significant impact on supply chain agility. Both types of collaboration play a partial mediating role in the impact of ERP and e-business technologies integration on supply chain agility. Pharmaceutical companies should devote more effort to ensuring continuous synergy between ERP and e-business technologies to facilitate intra- and inter-organisational collaboration, which in turn would improve supply chain agility.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. The effect of various coordination mechanisms on SC performance is an area of research interest. In this study, two mechanisms 'price discount' and 'delay in payment' are used separately and simultaneously to coordinate a network SC under a simulated business environment. Discrete event simulation modelling is used to study the performance of the network SC in this study. Lost sale and backorder are the two cases simulated as most business has one of these. The results show that coordination improves the performance of the SC compared to non-coordination case and the simultaneous use of 'price discount' along with 'delay in payment' further enhances the SC surplus significantly compared to the individual use of either price discount or delay in payment. The extent of improvement in performance in each case is also reported, since this is very relevant for the decision maker who compares the effort to be taken and benefits that accrue before adopting a system. Sensitivity analysis has also been conducted.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Adv. Oper. In practice, there are many problems in which all decision parameters are fuzzy numbers, and such problems are usually solved by either probabilistic programming or multi objective programming methods. Unfortunately, all these methods have shortcomings. In this note, using the concept of comparison of fuzzy numbers, a very effective method is introduced for solving these problems. The model is illustrated with application and a sensitivity analysis is obtained. This paper extends linear programming-based problem in fuzzy environment. With the problem assumptions, the optimal solution can still be theoretically solved using the simplex-based method. To handle the fuzzy decision, variables can be initially generated and then solved and improved sequentially using the fuzzy decision approach by introducing robust ranking technique. The proposed procedure was programmed and through MATLAB (R2009a) version software, the four dimensional slice diagram is represented to the application. The model is illustrated with an application and a post optimal analysis is studied with respect to changes in parameter which incorporates all concepts of a fuzzy arithmetic approach to draw managerial insights.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. Sustainable lot-sizing model is considered to be a powerful response to this necessity. In this paper a novel sustainable lot-sizing model is developed which converts all emission types of inventory management life-cycle into tangible economic metrics. In order to develop the model in a more practical manner, partial backordering consideration is embedded into the model. A pretty simple procedure is developed to determine the optimal solutions of the proposed model. Finally the formulated model is illustrated with a numerical example. A comprehensive sensitivity analysis has been accomplished on model parameters as well. According to the sensitivity analysis the results show that the decision variables are highly sensitive respect to the selling price and purchasing cost and are moderately sensitive to the demand rate, fixed ordering cost, annual average inventory obsolescence rate, weight of an obsolete unit stored and also partial backordering rate. In the other hand the changes of other parameters have slight effects on the decision variables.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. J. Adv. Oper. The heuristics developed for managing capacity has been shown to work better than accepting orders on a first-come, first-served basis. However, realised effectiveness versus potential effectiveness with respect to optimum has not been investigated. Results of this study reveal that the rationing heuristic is very effective in yielding results in proximity of optimum solution when customer segments are very distinct or highly differentiated and when implied utilisation is very high. On the other hand, when the attractiveness of higher profitable customer segment diminishes and capacity is not tight there is a significant potential to improve the heuristic.","PeriodicalId":191561,"journal":{"name":"Int. Thus, eco-design may be considered as all EOL activities that includes the whole life cycle in the early stage of the green product development. We believe that, the consistent between design for X items (DFX) and end-of-life (EOL) is one important aspect that needs to be integrated. The work reported in this paper presented innovative decision-support approach for green product development procedure, focusing on application an EOL strategy feedback-based sustainable supply chain. We show that the innovative decision-support approach for green product development procedure consists of three phase: early design consideration, eco-design product function and problem-solving of green product from customer feedback phases. The proposed procedure will be demonstrated with customer complaint problem case for three interface component. Experiment and evaluation related to performance measurement of EOL activities effect in sustainable supply chain is discussed.
