Conventional audiometer and an audiologist are required in order to perform the hearing screening test. However, this procedure is difficult to be implemented especially in a remote site such as factory or school due to the ambient noise which may cause inaccuracy in the test. In this work, the application of active noise control (ANC) is proposed to reduce the ambient noise using a personal computer in hearing screening test. The ANC algorithm was implemented using a computer with data acquisition modules and LabVIEW software. The results showed that the anti-noise was successfully generated in the electrical domain but no reduction was observed in the acoustic domain. The ANC is a deterministic application that requires real-time operating system to respond to the input with precisely timed output. In order to have an effective ANC system, the processing time has to be less than 0.125 ms at 8 KHz sampling rate.","PeriodicalId":191194,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Instrumentation, Communication, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering 2009","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132905971","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Progress has been made on models of the structures of fingerprints, techniques for acquisition of prints, and the developments of commercial automated fingerprint identification systems. Despite these advances, there remain considerable opportunities for improvements. The speed of retrieval and the ability to recognize partial or distorted prints are prominent among those areas that require improvements. This paper discusses a new technique to remove scars from impaired fingerprint images. This is achieved by first improving directional images of finger prints and then followed by reconstructing the finger print images using Inverse Fast Fourier Transform. The technique was tested on 500 fingerprint images of 5 different classes namely arch, left loop, right loop, tented and whorl. The experimental results have shown that the reconstructed images have achieved almost 100% free of scars and have a better and clear ridge and furrow structures.","PeriodicalId":191194,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Instrumentation, Communication, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering 2009","volume":"59 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133244053","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The eye movement is taken by camera and processed by computer. The left eye pupil center coordinates are used as eye movement data. These coordinates are extracted to obtain their features or parameters, which are saccadic latency, velocity, saccadic duration, and deviation. Extracted parameters from eye movement data become an input of the Fuzzy Identification System to classify the measurement time category, conducted either in the morning or the afternoon. Twenty-six visually normal students participate as subjects in this research. Their eye movement data are measured in the morning and in the afternoon after 9 hours of class. We also investigate whether the parameters can be used to distinguish the two conditions. The results of our experiments are assumed to be the system performance, and an accuracy of 86.54% is achieved. However, only the velocity and duration parameters show significant difference (p<0.05) between the two measurement times. This result reflects the fatigue in the ocular muscle which the two parameters mentioned above are directly affected.","PeriodicalId":191194,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Instrumentation, Communication, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering 2009","volume":"28 2 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123697457","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Bayesian network model can determine dominant information of an image using occurrence probability of image's characteristics. This probability is used to measure image similarity. Performance of the system is determined using recall and precision. Based on experiment, Bayesian network model can improve performance of image retrieval system. Experiment result showed that the average precision gain up of using Bayesian network model is about 8.28 %. The average precision of using Bayesian network model is better than using color, shape, or texture information individually.","PeriodicalId":191194,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Instrumentation, Communication, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering 2009","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129779649","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The experimentals were LC and applied high voltage measurements used a two-channel storage digital oscilloscope, in the hermetically sealed chamber, where temperature, humidity, pressure and applied voltage could be adjusted and measured simultaneously. The LC waveforms were analyzed using FFT and the statistics concerns were analyzed using FMCD of robust multivariate statistical tools. Furthermore, the data were made correlations using CCA. The LCs were significantly influenced by RH. Otherwise, very small data were suspected as outliers, and the dependent variables were linearly function to independent variables, based on CCA.","PeriodicalId":191194,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Instrumentation, Communication, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering 2009","volume":"49 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131068885","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Thus, we need an automatic system that can classify medical images, accurately and faster from query images into one of the pre-defined classes. In this research, we are dealing with the classification of medical image to the image classes that are defined in the database. We focus on using the shape of X-ray image to carry out the classification process and to use the Euclidean distance and Jeffrey Divergence techniques to measure image similarity. In this paper, we use a grid approach to simplify the shape of X-ray images to obtain a better recognition rate. Our experiment shows that this approach gives a higher recognition rate.","PeriodicalId":191194,"journal":{"name":"International Conference on Instrumentation, Communication, Information Technology, and Biomedical Engineering 2009","volume":"284 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2009-11-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"116101005","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
