This fruit is rich in antioxidants has been used from centuries for the treatment of inflammation, cancers, diabetes, hypertension, infertility and so many diseases. It is now being utilized in medicinal as well as nutrition industries due to its strong potential. Polyphenols present in pomegranate shows anti-proliferative properties as strong bases. Various in vitro and in vivo studies show that pomegranate is rich in organic acids, anthocyanins, sterols and catechin. India is among the top most countries producing and exporting this fruit. Some of its varieties are being used for commercial and ornamental means. However, some stress factors need to be evaluated in future to enhance its production and cultivation on national levels. In addition to this area that are producing pomegranate should be supplied by better climatic and fertility means to increase its demand.","PeriodicalId":191049,"journal":{"name":"Scholarly Journal of Food and Nutrition","volume":"32 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-09-10","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132264657","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

We have limited land and water resources; therefore need to develop all these resources carefully. Nearly one billion hectares of arid and semiarid areas of the world are salt-affected and remain barren. These soils are universally low in fertility and not suitable for conventional agricultural use. Irrigation without adequate drainage is leading to waterlogging and secondary salinization. Further, in most of these regions, the groundwater aquifers are saline. Usually cultivation of conventional arable crops with saline irrigation has not been sustainable. To bring these wastelands under sustainable productive system and use poor-quality waters judiciously in agriculture, we need to evolve innovative technologies and domesticate stress tolerant halophytes of high economic value. Further, saline agroforestry needs to be given preference as salt-tolerant forest and fruit trees, forage grasses, medicinal and aromatic and other non-conventional crops can be equally remunerative. In coastal areas, mangrove-based aquaculture needs to be developed. The littoral vegetation not only protects the shores and provides wood for fuel, fodder, thatching material, and honey for coastal population but also creates substratum, which provides shelter to a variety of animals. The ecosystem also helps in fish production and plays a key role in food web. Such uses have additional environmental benefits including carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and biological reclamation. In this write up, some of these aspects have been discussed in brief.","PeriodicalId":191049,"journal":{"name":"Scholarly Journal of Food and Nutrition","volume":"5 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-06-25","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"133525867","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

RCBD five treatments with three replications experiment compared maize grown as sole crop with maize-cowpea intercropped to assess agronomic, nutritional and economic returns of forage production. Average plant performance ranged 122.85-174.19cm maize plant height; 20.7-26.4cm ear length, & number of leaves/maize plant was 9.13-10.52. The effect of intercropping treatments on maize forage yield was significant (P<0.05), however, there was no significant difference in grain yield among the cropping systems though T5 yielded higher and higher 100 maize grains weight followed by T4 yield and 21.74g average 100 maize grain weight; T3 (3.05ton/ha) and 21.84g average 100 maize seeds and the least in yield was actually the sole maize T2 (2.24ton/ha), confirming that intercropping has at least, some scenario better than sole cropping practices. There was no significant soil NPK effect pre-sowing and postharvest. Nutritionally, feed quality of maize parts was significant difference among the intercropping systems that stated in their descending value of cowpea hay, as follows: NDF (T3>T1>T5>T4); ADF (T1>T5>T3>T4) and typical in CP. lignin content (T1>T5>T4>T3), while IVDMD% (T3>T4>T5>T1). NDF content was significantly higher in maize stem and least in grain. Maize husk significantly over dominated in ADF content than stem, leaf and grain in descending order. ADF content was great significant in the entire parts that maize husk has higher than stem which exceeds leaf. Grain was the least in ADF content of all maize parts. Similarly, maize stem was significantly higher in lignin than husk, leaf and grain. LER was 1.45 in the mixtures indicating yield advantage over sole crops. T4 has the potential for enhancing cowpea and maize performances. Favorable seasons for better DM yield and chemical composition of both crops should be researched.","PeriodicalId":191049,"journal":{"name":"Scholarly Journal of Food and Nutrition","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-31","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124666954","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Several new methods for N-demethylation of morphinans have been developed during the pursuit of this research. The article traces the evolution of various approaches and provides a comparison for overall efficiency. A reverse phase high performance liquid chromatographic (RPHPLC) method has been developed and validated for simultaneous estimation of Naloxone Hydrochloride and Buprenorphine Hydrochloride in pure and marketed formulations. Separation was carried out using column Hypersil ODS C18 (250 mm x 4.6mm x 5μm particle size) in isocratic mode using mobile phase composition pH 6.0 ammonium acetate Buffer: Acetonitrile (68:32)v/v and UV detection at 310nm. The compounds were eluted at a flow rate of 1.0mL/ min. The average retention times for Naloxone and Buprenorphine were 2.86 and 3.67 min, respectively. The method was validated according to the ICH guidelines. The percentage RSD of all validation parameters found to be less than 2% indicating high degree of accuracy and precision of the proposed HPLC method. The method was linear over the concentration of 5.30μg/ml and 20-120μg/ml for Naloxone and Buprenorphine respectively. The LOD and LOQ of Naloxone were found to be 0.08µg/mL and 0.26µg/mL and of Buprenorphine were found to be 0.0078µg/mL and 0.0237µg/mL. The drugs were also exposed to acidic, alkaline, oxidative, thermal and photolytic conditions and the stressed samples were analyzed by the proposed method. Degradation studies showed that the both the drugs were highly stable under acidic, oxidative, thermal and photolytic conditions. Under alkaline conditions, RT values were shifted to lower as compared to standard without any additional peaks. The high percentage of stability under stress conditions confirms the suitability of the method for simultaneous estimation of Naloxone Hydrochloride and Buprenorphine Hydrochloride in pure and marketed formulations.","PeriodicalId":191049,"journal":{"name":"Scholarly Journal of Food and Nutrition","volume":"57 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2018-05-30","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"123003827","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
