Software defined radios(SDRs) have provided MANETs a platform for using Narrowband networking wave-form(NBNW) for concurrent voice and data transmissions. Traditional TDMA MAC protocols are not appropriate for such applications. In this paper we have proposed a distributed TDMA slot assignment MAC protocol for VHF/UHF NBWF operating at 25kHz for SDR MANETs. It is a conflict free slot assignment protocol which has improved the average channel utilization and reduced the control traffic overhead thus utilizing the limited bandwidth more efficiently for tactical MANETs. Nodes autonomously detect any change in network topology and assign slot by using local topology knowledge only. The protocol is employing 5Kbps for control slots traffic and the rest of the bandwidth i.e 20Kbps is utilized by data packets. The main contribution of the proposed technique is designing a protocol that works on very narrow band with low data rate for mobile nodes. The performance of the protocol is evaluated in OMNeT++ and we have shown that improved average channel utilization and reduced control traffic for MANETs is efficiently utilizing NBNW bandwidth than existing protocols.","PeriodicalId":189860,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"19 10 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"125769455","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

First, the radiation from an accelerated charged particle is outlined featuring the concept of radiation reaction force. Then the Pocklington integro-differential equation for dipole antennas is derived which is followed by the details related to the numerical solution procedure. The Pocklington equation is solved via the Galerkin-Bubnov Inirect Boundary Element Method (GB-IBEM). An illustrative computational example is given, as well.","PeriodicalId":189860,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129467556","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Wireless sensor nodes are cheap tiny sensor apparatus integrated with sensing, processing and short-range wireless communication abilities. Recent experimentations have been exploding in terms of usage and performance to improve the way of working in many contexts like the detection of outliers in a water pipeline. These pipelines are often subject to failure like erosion and sabotage that can cause high financial, environmental and health risks. Consequently, detecting damage and esteeming its location is very important. For this case, several techniques have been investigated in the research community. In this paper, we have constructed a novel leakage detection model based on Fisher Discriminant Analysis (FDA) and the Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier for the detection of outliers based on Wireless Sensors Networks implemented in a water pipeline. Using this scheme, FDA is used to reduce the dimensionality of the pressure measurements and extract the optimal data for the classification process. Thus, SVM is used to perform the detection of the leaking pipe. The performance of our technique is evaluated in terms of accuracy and training time. As a result, the experimental measurements demonstrate that our method based on FDA coupled with SVM is the most efficient and accurate for detecting events in the context of water pipeline based on WSNs.","PeriodicalId":189860,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129760289","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The technique uses a meta-heuristic to optimize the data throughput and to choose the best solution. The optimization is based on Genetic Algorithms (GA), with the objective of finding out the best antenna configuration to achieve the highest data throughput from the variation of the distance between the antenna array elements and the number of antennas. Simulation results show an increase of more than 15% in the data throughput considering 4×4 MIMO channels.","PeriodicalId":189860,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132848721","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In our approach, Euler algorithm was used to generate a series of words based on tree and S⊘rensen-Dice coefficient was applied to determine the similarity between compared trees. The emphasis is on defining the similarity between the correct and incorrect answers from the Yahoo Question and Answer of the Non-Factual Data Set. Proposed algorithm was used on two types of trees. First is the constituency tree generated by Stanford CoreNLP, and second is custom-made algorithm that produces second type of tree, called knowledge tree which is derived from parse tree. In our comparison, Zhuang-Sasha algorithm was also used. Second approach that was used for sentence comparison uses Word2Vec model for finding word embedding's and calculating sentence average vector, after that cosine distance was applied to determine similarity between two sentences. Results generated with this method were compared with our method in finding sentence similarity based on knowledge tree. Approach described in this paper can be used in evaluation of correct answers which will be used in our implementation of Intelligent Tutoring System.","PeriodicalId":189860,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128030757","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While in the traditional education the instructor does not have a comprehensive insight on how his students are using the educational resources, the situation is different for online learning environments. Web usage logs comprise a variety of information regarding the visited pages. These web-logs become a rich resource for data analysis. Understanding usage patterns from web-logs is widely used in order to improve web-based applications. In our research we are interested in distilling valuable knowledge on users behavior in online educational platforms using the knowledge discovery and processing methods of Formal Concept Analysis (FCA). This knowledge can then be used to understand how students are using the educational resources, to gain insight on their online behavior as well as how they use these resources over time. In this paper, we focus on the detection of behavioral patterns in web-based e-learning environments and on how users adhere to intended educational attractors. For this, we first use FCA to investigate so-called educational attractors and then distill users life tracks using Temporal Concept Analysis. We exemplify the developed methods on a locally developed e-learning platform called PULSE.","PeriodicalId":189860,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"441 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122801708","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Connections between users on Facebook are modeled through concept of friendship. Each connection between users is binary — two users either are or aren't \"friends\". Information about of the actual intensity or nature of their connection is not available although in real life it can vary significantly. A majority of observed network friends are acquaintances in real-life while close friends are in the minority. The goal of this paper is to demonstrate and evaluate how user interaction statistics can be utilized for effective assessment of the nature of users' real-life relationship. Using an ensemble of popular classification algorithms, we will classify ego-user's network friends into 3 groups: close friends, friends and acquaintances. As our main contribution, we will compare the efficiency of chosen algorithms and suggest the best approach for conducting this type of analysis on similar OSN communication data.","PeriodicalId":189860,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"36 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122926204","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A theoretical model of a two-port network is built to derive the transfer function of a typical low voltage power line communication network. This model is designed based on two wires widely used, the transfer function uses chain parameter matrices describing the relation between input and output voltage and current of the two-port network. Furthermore, the effects of variations in the direct length, branch length and branch load on the channel frequency response are examined. The results of simulation presented in this paper shows that the transfer function is largely affected by the network configuration.","PeriodicalId":189860,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"69 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131121664","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this context, Information and Communication Technology (ICT) can act as proactive input devices providing multimodal interface components for facilitating long-term user interaction. The present paper reports the first results of the EU-H2020 project \"my-AHA\", for defining the best combination of voice commands, non-verbal behaviors and gestures. Eight elderly people tested the specific features of different devices (TV, Microsoft Kinect™ v2, smartphone) in two real life scenarios. Results show how natural interaction, such as voice and gestures (gathered by Microsoft Kinect™ v2) are more appreciated than the remote control based on smartphone.","PeriodicalId":189860,"journal":{"name":"2017 25th International Conference on Software, Telecommunications and Computer Networks (SoftCOM)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2017-09-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131368786","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
