Comparison of our response-function model with other theoretical models is presented. Received response-function curve based on inverse Fourier transform of complex third-order susceptibility shows that we may use only 10 Gauss spectral components instead of 12 Gauss components calculated before. Moreover, proposed principle of Gauss spectral decomposition method is applicable for other types of silica fibers.","PeriodicalId":189618,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Advanced Optoelectronics and Lasers (CAOL 2013)","volume":"295 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132419815","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

Making the optical resonances tunable is essential for many applications, and the cylindrical topology enables the implementation of several tuning techniques. In addition to thermal and strain tuning, slightly tapered rods, Erbium doped microresonators and liquid filled microcapillaries can be used to implement different tuning techniques. Optical fine tuning of whispering gallery modes (WGM) resonances is demonstrated using Erbium doped microresonators and an auxiliary 980 nm pump diode. Using a slightly tapered silica rod, the reflection produced by high Q WGM resonances can be exploited to make a tunable single-frequency fiber laser. WGM resonances of thin microcapillaries provide a unique solution for refractive index sensor applications, enabling the use of liquids with refractive higher than that of silica and offering an optimum compatibility between optical microcavities and microfluidics.","PeriodicalId":189618,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Advanced Optoelectronics and Lasers (CAOL 2013)","volume":"27 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-11-07","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126862448","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
