For the interface between the dc photovoltaic solar array and the ac electrical grid is necessary the use of an inverter (dc-ac converter), which should be optimized to extract the maximum power from the photovoltaic solar array. In this paper is presented a solution based on a current-source inverter (CSI) using continuous control set model predictive control (CCS-MPC). All the power circuits and respective control systems are described in detail along the paper and were tested and validated performing computer simulations. Oliveira","doi":"10.1109/CPE.2015.7231087","DOIUrl":"https://doi.org/10.1109/CPE.2015.7231087","url":null,"abstract":"In this paper, a novel ultra-compact, self-powered, high-efficiency, solid-state electronic device to reduce the energy consumption and improve the power factor at light load of direct-on-line, variable-torque, fixed-speed, three-phase, squirrel-cage induction motors, by means of a novel load-based stator-winding connection-mode management technique, is presented, including some technical and economic considerations on its use. This device also performs optimized motor soft-starting, advanced motor protection and fault diagnosis. The ultra-compact design enables the device to be installed inside the motor terminal box, saving space in the switchboard. In relation to the electromechanical star-delta starters, the proposed device offers higher reliability and requires half of the cables from the switchboard to the motor. Moreover, due to the independent per-phase switching control, the current and voltage transients produced during the switching instants are smoother, extending the motor lifetime. However, there appears saturation and drift problem on integration of harmonic signals. This paper proposes a simple algorithm based on Second-Order Generalized Integrator (SOGI) with effective elimination output drift of integral operator and prevents saturation in case DC component appears in input signal. Algorithm has accurate results on selected frequency range and frequency adaptation is also possible. Article presents extraction from SOGI structure and detailed analysis of proposed integral operator algorithm. Also shown form of the equations that are easy to implement in digital system. The wind energy system has a variable-speed turbine equipped with a permanent magnet synchronous generator and a full-power fivelevel converter, injecting energy into the electric grid through a high voltage alternate current link. A reduction on the unbalance of the voltage in the DC-link capacitors of the five-level converter is proposed by a strategic selection of the output voltage vectors. The model for the drive train of the wind energy system is a two mass model, including the dynamics of the floating platform. The central part of an energy storage system is the DC-DC converter which connects the ultracapacitor pack or the battery pack and a DC bus of an energy system. This paper presents the DC-DC converter design to control of an energy storage system based on supercapacitors but it can be also used for charging and discharging of accumulators. The converter for such application should have a good transient response performance to prevent voltage sags in micro-grid. In this paper development of 4-phase interleaved DC-DC converter with using of the inter-phase coupled inductors is analyzed to improve transient response. The steady state phase and output current ripple of the interleaving bidirectional DC-DC converter is analyzed. The prototype of the converter has been built. By optimizing the location of switching devices on the electrical distribution system, an improvement in energy not supplied and in the availability of the distributed energy resources can be obtained thus reducing greenhouse gas emissions. This work proposes the Memetic evolutionary algorithm for the multiobjective optimal placement of the switching devices. A trade-off between the investment in equipment cost (EC), energy not supplied (ENS) and greenhouse gas emissions (GGER) is analyzed, in order to choose the optimal placement of switching devices in distribution electrical networks. The proposed method was tested with a Portuguese real distribution network. In order to meet the PDLC ON/OFF state requirements, the converter must be able to supply an AC @1 kHz signal with different voltage levels, which correspond to different transparency levels. The converter will be connected directly to the electrical socket outlet and will use three conversion stages (AC - DC, DC - DC, DC - AC) to meet the PDLC's requirements. The AC - DC conversion stage will be composed by a single-phase diode rectifier, the DC - DC conversion stage will use a Buck-Boost converter and, in the DC - AC conversion stage, it will be used the Boost Inverter topology.
