Charles Strong (1844–1942) was the cause and centre of the most significant theological controversy in nineteenth-century Australian Protestantism. The current paper presents a review of Strong’s background in Scotland by considering his family (especially his older brother David), education, and first ministries before moving to Melbourne and taking up ministry there first at Scots’ Church, Melbourne, within the Presbyterian Church of Victoria, and then subsequently The Australian Church. Extensive new material is presented here to supplement the account of C. R. Badger, the only current biographer of Strong.","PeriodicalId":188810,"journal":{"name":"Reformed Theological Review","volume":"15 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"129641478","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

More specifically, it seeks to answer whether there is sufficient clarity and consistency between the theology of complementarianism and its practice in vocational women's ministry in these churches, in order to better understand the conditions that allow women to flourish in ministry. \u0000Key findings of this research point to systemic issues in complementarian practice, and the need for a correction in women’s ministry in reformed evangelical churches across Australia and NZ, so that it is clearly and consistently theologically driven. Despite increased opportunities over the past forty years for women to serve in these churches, there continues to be a lack of clarity and consistency to how complementarianism is applied in ways that are faithful to its theology and sensitive towards female practitioners in this space. \u0000 ","PeriodicalId":188810,"journal":{"name":"Reformed Theological Review","volume":"25 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"126379969","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The new term is designed to demarcate a new salvation-historical era, like ‘El Shaddai’ and ‘Yhwh’. It marks the age of military victory and rest attained under the Davidic monarchy. The canonical background does not suggest an angelic meaning and gives quite a different concept to the Canaanite council of the gods.","PeriodicalId":188810,"journal":{"name":"Reformed Theological Review","volume":"35 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2022-04-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115085494","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It refers to those to whom Jesus appeared after his resurrection. Attention is given to the current consensus and the questions that remain about the passage and then to the previously overlooked punctuation. Re-punctuating the passage indicates that the ‘formerly disobedient’ refers to ‘former unbelievers’ and that these ‘spirits in prison’ are those former unbelievers to whom Jesus appeared after he was resurrected.","PeriodicalId":188810,"journal":{"name":"Reformed Theological Review","volume":"23 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2021-12-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"114073198","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
