The objective of this work is to develop a tool for the clinician and researcher for processing and analyzing DICOM images starting from a series of scintigraphic dynamic renal images. Tracing the regions of interest of kidneys by hand is time-consuming. Instead, the goal is a semi-automatic segmentation technique which finds the desired regions automatically. This can be done using fast marching methods. Thus, our system can automatically generate entire curves of renal function to determine the relative function. This tool is a step forward in the field of medical image processing, waiting to receive expert advice.","PeriodicalId":187834,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computer Medical Applications (ICCMA)","volume":"31 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122997229","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The purpose of this system is threefold: diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of patient. He includes a chain tele medical made up of: 1- Hardware with a microphone and a sound card of terminal computer. 2- a software with vocal Audacity environment for the recording of the acoustic signal, Wamp environment for the establishment of data base on line and Visual BASIC environment for the transfer of the data under protocol TCP/IP making profitable architecture customer server supported by the component Winsock of VB in relation to the operating system Windows. For that we design an experimental protocol which consists of the recording and the archiving of the acoustic vocal signal by means of the software environment Audacity which makes it possible to deliver a temporal signal under format WAVE. Our contribution consisted of the implementation, under the Visual Basic environment, of an algorithm that allows performing the analysis of a spectro-temporal acoustic voiced speech signal in this case the vowel “a” sustained for three seconds. We applied this algorithm on six healthy subjects and six pathological subjects of whose four with cancer of the larynx, one with chronic laryngitis and one presenting an inflammatory polyp of the vocal cords. The results obtained show a variability of spectro-temporal characteristics between healthy and pathological subjects and prone pathological between them according to the nature of the lesion in particular with regard to spectral content evaluated by DFT-RD and the fundamental frequency F0 averaged over several frames of the voiced signal.","PeriodicalId":187834,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computer Medical Applications (ICCMA)","volume":"21 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128288528","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

It is required to enhance the doctor's skill to improve their diagnoses for detecting heart diseases. In this work Teager energy operator and autocorrelation function are investigated to analyze the PCG signal and extract different parameters such as S1-Systole and S2-Diastole signals their timing, and heart rate estimation. Different numerical formulations of Teager energy operator are investigated to extract the single cardiac cycle, where the formula with best result is suggested. Then the autocorrelation function is applied to estimate the different timing of the extracted single cardiac cycle. The results were very optimistic, and the proposed framework could be an automatic analysis procedure of PCG that may be implemented in real time for classification of PCG. All signals are acquired by MP-36 of BIOPAC Systems, Inc.","PeriodicalId":187834,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computer Medical Applications (ICCMA)","volume":"6 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121683341","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This study has mainly two purposes. First to evaluate the medical cost of managing this disease and to identify risk factors that influence its variation in Tunisia. We have then used a prospective study of 630 patients hospitalized for stroke in 2010 at the National Institute of Neurology of Tunis. We have assessed three different kinds of costs: in-hospital, post-hospitalization and annual costs. Afterward we have noticed huge variations in these different costs. We have then used an unsupervised clustering algorithm called the EM-algorithm to cluster the patients according to each kind of cost. We have obtained homogenous cost-clusters where each type of cost seems to be sampled from a normal distribution. Our second purpose was to identify the factors that make these costs high. We have then used a statistical technic called graphical interaction models. We mainly assume that the variables composing the data are jointly sampled from a conditional Gaussian distribution and where the interactions between the variables can be represented by an undirected graph where the vertices are the variables and where any separation statement implies a conditional independence between the concerned variables according to a specific protocol. Once these graphs are estimated we are able to determine direct and undirect factors that influence the increasing of the disease cost.","PeriodicalId":187834,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computer Medical Applications (ICCMA)","volume":"106 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"124085973","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The examined decision problem is related to the problem of recognition of histopathology images with respect to the degree of HER2/neu receptor overexpression. We used fuzzy decision trees, defined over different sets of image features, as separate image classifiers. Then, the corresponding classifiers results were aggregated with the fuzzy Sugeno integral to make final recognition decision. This paper describes a pixel classification based method of segmenting retinal blood vessels using linear discriminant analysis. The vessel-ness measure of a pixel is defined by the feature vector comprised of a modified multiscale line operator and Gabor filter responses. The sequential forward feature selection scheme is used to identify the optimal scales for the line operator and Gabor filter. The linear discriminant classifier utilizes only two features for pixel classification. The feature vector encodes information to reliably handle normal vessels in addition to vessels with strong light reflexes along their centerline, which is more apparent on retinal arteriolars than venules. The method is evaluated on the three publicly available DRIVE, STARE and MESSIDOR datasets. The method is computationally fast and its performance approximates the 2nd human observer as well as other existing methodologies available in the literature, thus making it a suitable tool for automated retinal image analysis.","PeriodicalId":187834,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computer Medical Applications (ICCMA)","volume":"87 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"128590143","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

While the field of medicine, as a whole, is leaping forward by integrating computer solutions, Forensic Medicine- particularly in developing regions such as Sri Lanka- is lacking innovative computer integrations. The process of forensic facial reconstruction in particular, is still at its infancy in Sri Lanka, and is yet to utilize the advanced technologies of other countries. Hence introducing a more efficient multimedia based technique to the local forensic officials in order to improve the efficiency and the accuracy of the reconstructions is the aim of this study. In contrast to the facial reconstructions conducted in other countries, this study introduces a novel semi-automated method of computer aided digital sculpting to the field of forensic medicine. The adopted process involved, acquiring a 3D model of the skull and digitally sculpting muscles in a 3D environment, followed by adding different facial features to improve identification. The research also encompassed a tissue thickness analysis and a facial component analysis, both of which were conducted for the first time on Sri Lankans since both were needed to improve the accuracy of the final output. This procedure was attempted on cases of the age category 20–30 and of medium weight. The outputs and the process were evaluated with different parties such as general public, forensic officials, lawyers and CID all of which yielded true positive results. The ultimate goal of conducting the study was to understand and overcome the challenges faced in developing this novel application for the Sri Lankan Forensic officials and to establish the first unit for facial reconstruction in Sri Lanka.","PeriodicalId":187834,"journal":{"name":"2013 International Conference on Computer Medical Applications (ICCMA)","volume":"2012 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2013-04-23","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"121747509","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
