The two algorithms namely 2D-FFT beamforming and FFT with array steering vector multiplication (FFT-ASVM) have been compared in the context of linear array processing. MATLAB simulations of these algorithms have been developed and applied on linear array data. Outcome of these simulations show that FFT-ASVM algorithm is better than the 2D-FFT algorithm for accurate detection of both strong and weak targets in the presence of noise. In addition, the paper shows that FDBF algorithms are easy to implement on general purpose processors as their execution times remain well within the real-time processing requirements.","PeriodicalId":187761,"journal":{"name":"2020 17th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences and Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"84 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122281423","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

ROM can be developed in two ways: (a) system identification techniques and b) Galerkin projection of Proper orthogonal decomposition (POD) modes onto the Governing equations such as Navier-Stokes equations. In this study, we investigate a canonical problem of incompressible flow past a circular cylinder. We first compute the POD modes and then determine the corresponding temporal coefficients. Some of these coefficients are used as training data for system identification techniques. We employ two regressive methods as a system identification strategy for predicting the temporal coefficients of ROM. On the other hand, we also develop a ROM through Galerkin projection technique and compare it with the system identification techniques. Based on this comparison, we have discussed the accuracy, advantages, and limitations of these methods in ROM.","PeriodicalId":187761,"journal":{"name":"2020 17th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences and Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"4 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115876280","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In this paper we study speech intelligibility potential of the single-microphone speech enhancement based on Deep Neural Networks (DNNs), a part of machine learning family. We have shown that DNN based speech enhancement approach, once trained purposely to handle many types of noise and signal-to-noise ratios (SNRs), shown immense potential of attaining large speech intelligibility improvements. The deep neural network models are trained to learn mapping from the noisy speech features and the coefficients of ratio time-frequency masks are estimated. The estimated masks are applied to noisy speech magnitude spectra in order to attain an enhanced intelligibility speech by utilizing the phase of noisy speech. The results at many different noisy conditions including exhibition hall, coffee shop, airport, car and babble and five SNRs: −10dB, −5dB, 0dB, 5dB and 10dB reported that deep neural network-based ratio mask outperformed the competing methods including Nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) and log minimum mean square error (LMMSE) estimation in terms of the short time objective intelligibility (STOI) and Normalized subband envelope correlation (NSEC) objective speech intelligibility metrics.","PeriodicalId":187761,"journal":{"name":"2020 17th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences and Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"115983672","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

In nature, hump back whales have evolved with tubercles at the leading-edge (L.E.) of their flippers. There is a strong evidence from the published literature that leading-edge tubercles (L.E.T.) improve stall characteristics of various lifting surfaces. L.E.T. are also known to reduce flow in the span-wise direction. The reduction in size and vorticity of the wingtip vortices is also a known benefit of adding tubercles at the L.E. of lifting surfaces. In this paper, the effects of L.E.T. are analyzed on a cropped delta wing having reflex camber cross-section (C.S.) at low angle of attack (A.O.A.) and transonic flight speed. An improved performance of the wing with L.E.T. is indicated by the results from the numerical simulations when compared to the baseline design. The improved characteristics of the modified wing (M.W.) in comparison with the baseline wing (B.W.) can be attributed, partly to the varying span-wise pressure distribution near the L.E. of the M.W. The improved performance of the M.W. can also be credited to the creation of a pair of chord-wise vortices behind the tubercle troughs as well as an improved stall performance and reduction in both the strength of wingtip vortices and span-wise flow.","PeriodicalId":187761,"journal":{"name":"2020 17th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences and Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"102 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"132481580","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

A robust controller is specified and the stability bounds of the uncertain closed-loop system are determined using the small gain, circle, positive real, and Popov criteria. A graphical approach is employed in order to demonstrate the ease with which the above robustness tests can be carried out on a problem of practical interest. A significant improvement in stability bounds is observed as the analysis moves from the small gain test to the circle, positive real, and Popov tests. In particular, small gain analysis results in the most conservative robust stability bounds, while Popov analysis yields significantly less conservative bounds. This is because traditional small gain type tests allow the uncertainty to be arbitrarily time-varying, whereas Popov analysis restricts the uncertainty to be constant, real parametric uncertainty. Therefore, the results reported here indicate the conservatism associated with small gain analysis, and the effectiveness of Popov analysis, in gauging robust stability in the presence of constant, real parametric uncertainty.","PeriodicalId":187761,"journal":{"name":"2020 17th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences and Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"1 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130465977","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

The study was conducted for the bacterial and parasitic profiling of native pigeons, as the drooping's of the pigeons might be the cause of zoonotic bacterial and parasitic contamination. During the study 200 fecal samples of native pigeons, 100 in captivity and free roaming each were collected and examined in the laboratory. The fecal samples collected were subjected to enrichment and bacterial culturing on tetrathionate broth (TTB) and Brilliant Green Agar plates for the isolation of Salmonella spp. because of its zoonotic importance and cause diarrhea in humans. The isolated Salmonella spp. pure culture was subjected to DNA extraction from the culture for Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Similarly for the parasitic identification the collected samples were processed for Giardia spp. Eimeria spp. and Heterakis spp. as they also cause diarrhea in humans. The fecal sample were processed for Direct smear method and Salt floatation Technique. The McMaster Technique was used to check the parasitic load. The results showed that out of 200 samples 99 (49.5%) samples were positive for Salmonella spp. contamination. Whereas 28% were positive for salmonella spp. which were in captivity and 71% of free roaming pigeons were positive. Similarly 136 (68%) samples were positive for zoonotic parasite. In 136 positive samples 52% were positive for Giardia spp. 10.5% for Eimeria spp. and 5.5% were infected with Heterakis spp. The results also showed that the pigeon kept in captivity were less infected to Giardia spp. Eimeria spp. and Heterakis spp. as compared to free roaming pigeons. During the study the survey was also conducted from the owners of the captive pigeons to check the zoonotic importance of the bacterium and parasites identified from the fecal sample which were the cause of contamination. The survey showed that out of 100 captive pigeon owners 36 owners or their families were continuously subjected to diarrheal problems at least thrice in a month. The present study was helpful in the profiling of bacterial and parasitic load in pigeons in captivity as well as free roaming. It also showed the zoonotic importance of the bacteria and parasite which should be studied properly in relation to human and pigeons in future.","PeriodicalId":187761,"journal":{"name":"2020 17th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences and Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"60 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"131012205","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

This prediction is done using different metrics such as lines of code, depth of inheritance tree etc. The fault prediction is carried out during early stages of development, as it decreases the maintenance costs and improve the software quality. Though software engineering research community have employed certain approaches to build an effective fault prediction model by using machine learning techniques, but the resampling techniques are used as an explicit activity in their studies. There is no study which reports the impact of discriminative power of resampling technique with classifiers. The main objective is to utilize the best combination of classifier with resampling technique in the model averaging method. In this study, we have investigated and compared the effect of different ensemble methods in improving the performance of prediction model. We have benchmarked the model averaging method using existing ensemble methods such as voting and stacking. The class imbalance problem is tackled with the use of different resampling techniques such as SMOTE, random under sampling and random over sampling. Five classifiers have been employed in this study due to their wide acceptance in fault prediction context which includes decision trees, logistic regression, Naive bayes, multinomial naive bayes and K nearest neighbor. The model is tested on 4 publicly available datasets from the PROMISE repository. In order to evaluate the performance of fault prediction model, F-measure is used. In order to avoid the sample randomness and biasness, the results are cross validated using k-fold ($mathrm{k}=10$) cross validation. CAD systems based on deep learning have been developed to automate the process of mitosis classification. However, mitosis classification usually suffers from class imbalance problem, moreover, high similarity between mitotic and non-mitotic nuclei as well as discrepancy in appearance and shape make classification of mitotic nuclei a challenging area of research. Quality of CAD systems that use medical images for diagnosis, highly depends on how image features are manipulated in order to get better results. This work suggests a new technique of Channel Boosted Convolutional Neural Network (CB-CNN) to classify breast cancer mitotic nuclei. In this technique, feature representation of a CNN is boosted by adding auxiliary feature channels along with original feature space (Red, Green and Blue channels) to increase the generalization of model for heterogeneous and sparse data. In the proposed method, initially (80x80) patches of mitotic and non-mitotic nuclei were extracted from histopathological images by performing histogram based binary thresholding. For the development of a CB-CNN, the potential of auxiliary feature learners was exploited to learn high-level feature representation. In this regard, an additional set of texture and gradient based feature channels were concatenated with original RGB features space of data. This boosted representation was assigned to a custom made deep CNN model. Learning capacity of the proposed CB-CNN is evaluated on TUPAC'16 challenge dataset. Channel Boosting based CNNs (0.53 for CB-CNN, 0.71 for CB-VGG and 0.54 for CB-ResNet) show improved performance in terms of F-score as compared to SVM (F-score: 0.42), and baseline CNN (0.47 for CNN, 0.55 for VGG and 0.44 for ResNet) classifier with and without transfer learning. The improved performance of CB-CNN suggests that the boosting of channel representation improves the generalization of a CNN by making feature space more versatile and flexible, thus making it robust towards heterogeneous data.","PeriodicalId":187761,"journal":{"name":"2020 17th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences and Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"29 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"122136407","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}

During the last decades, network bandwidth has evolved enormously to fulfill the needs of a larger number of users, who want to communicate through an unsecured internet. With the increase in network bandwidth, the probability of network intrusions and attacks are also increased. Consequently, network security is one of the major threats. Among several other solutions, Intrusion Detection System (IDS) is an efficient technique to monitor the Ethernet traffic. In this regard, an efficient multicore design has been proposed for network monitoring using an existing IDS i.e., SNORT. The proposed design constitutes a total of 16 numbers of cores to process Ethernet traffic efficiently. Furthermore, the proposed design achieves an efficient packet capturing using PF_ring with network load balancing based on IP hash load balancing. Based on the aforementioned settings, network monitoring can be improved with “N” times where N is the number of used CPU cores.","PeriodicalId":187761,"journal":{"name":"2020 17th International Bhurban Conference on Applied Sciences and Technology (IBCAST)","volume":"7 1","pages":"0"},"PeriodicalIF":0.0,"publicationDate":"2020-01-01","publicationTypes":"Journal Article","fieldsOfStudy":null,"isOpenAccess":false,"openAccessPdf":"","citationCount":null,"resultStr":null,"platform":"Semanticscholar","paperid":"130811821","PeriodicalName":null,"FirstCategoryId":null,"ListUrlMain":null,"RegionNum":0,"RegionCategory":"","ArticlePicture":[],"TitleCN":null,"AbstractTextCN":null,"PMCID":"","EPubDate":null,"PubModel":null,"JCR":null,"JCRName":null,"Score":null,"Total":0}
